Literally one the finest establishments in Alameda if not the entire East Bay, Pappo offers up a beautiful array of quality dishes made from the freshest Ingredients from local producers. It’s intimate atmosphere, combined with a loyal community based clientele and seasonal menu, make this the number one destination in Alameda for the finest cuisine available. I recently had the Duck Hash brunch over salsa verde with a fried egg on Easter sunday. It was simply the best breakfast hash I’ve ever had. Period. I would recommend Pappo for anyone and of all ages. They even have a full service bar, and are located in the heart of downtown Alameda, right across the street from the Alameda Theater. Whether you’re a native of the island or paying a visit from elsewhere, make sure you pay a visit to Pappo, and perhaps you’ll see master chef John Thiel visiting your table for a meet and greet.
We went there tonight for our 7 year anniversary and it was our first time. The drink I had was heaven and my steak was amazing! My husband ordered the burger and absolutely loved it! And the lemon canollis were to die for! Our waitress, Faye was so sweet and gave wonderful suggestions! I highly recommend a night out here! Definitely worth it!

Visited on a busy Friday night. Chose the Duck Sugo with pappardelle. Enjoyed it; fit the craving for "real food" that convenience restaurants can't. It was a little simpler than I was expecting in terms of flavor presentation. The primary ingredients (duck, carrots, pappardelle) were prominent and the flavors of the sauce quite subtle, give or take a peppercorn.
A light hand is my overall impression. I tried the Sloe Hand cocktail and it also seemed less complex than the ingredients listed would suggest. This is not a bad thing at all; loading up on sugar, salt or fat is the easiest way to make an "impression" but ultimately the least interesting.
As a matter of mood it was a long week and I think I was looking for a little less subtlety and some heavy-handed comfort food. And the duck sugo was actually pretty close. But I might have enjoyed it more in a more energetic mood.
Finished with the espresso gelato; great flaky ice texture.
Would happily return with anyone I expected to enjoy culinary arts.
Best restaurant in Alameda! Excellent menu with a nice variety; fresh locally sourced ingredients; incredible wines that are produced by the owner and amazing service.
Always fresh food and excellent service! The zucchini spaghetti is a favorite! Love the local wild fish options and the cocktails are yummy too! Highly recommend. Never disappoints.

Pappo has the best Caesar salad ANYWHERE! The rest of the menu looked really good, too, particularly the dishes that were walking by! The wait staff is really friendly and I can't wait to go back. Relaxing, warm atmosphere.
We did a wine pairing here with a like 4/5 course meal. Food is top notch definitely heading back. Prices are high so this is a rare treat place for us.
Just had a delicious dinner at Pappos. Every component was great, NY strip, panzanella (ripe heirloom tomatoes!), and the panko crusted eggplant was perfection.
Never forget that fabulous meal John prepared for my 25th anniversary dinner with my wife and family, Pappo's is the best!
Chef John Thiel makes some of the best food anywhere. Pappo is a total Alameda gem.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Alameda. It's inviting and unpretentious. Faye has been our server a few times and she's always friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wines. We do hope the menu changes soon as we've had everything on it, starters, salads and entrees!
Amazing! Always. Moved to alameda from NYC and this place rocks. My favorite spot for date night, especially Thursday market dinners.

Chef Thiel put together a tasting menu for a Coprorate Holiday event and I have to say… It was extraordinary! Service was on point, the food was out of this world good and he and his teams’ professionalism and attention to detail was incredible. Our folks already asked us to do it again next year. If your looking for a personalized experience call Pappo and be prepared for the most amazing dining experience.
The service was excellent the atmosphere is pleasant seating was comfy the food was visually beautiful and flavorful with good portions we enjoyed a prix fix meal. I would love to go back to sample other items.
Of course you can have the duck. Or maybe the pappardelle bolognese. Me, I had a perfectly prepared burger with garlic fries and a North Coast IPA. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is warm. Come in and prepared to be delighted.
Staff are very friendly and attentive. My friend had the roasted peach salad that she loves. I had the duck sugo with pasta and it was delicious. We tried the duck liver pate and it was also good. I really like dinner a Pappo's. Nice outdoor seating and relaxing atmosphere.
I worked here for 7 years and it was magical. December 31st 2021 was the last night they were open and I was blessed to be here for the last hurray! Thanks for the memories Boss
