Great family-owned Mexican restaurant located not too far from the Grand Valley State University campus.
Very colorful atmosphere with each table and chair having its own Aztec-themed artwork - you could spend hours going from chair to chair just to admire the individual scenes!
The restaurant offers a wide variety of Mexican favorites, from tacos to burritos to other classic dishes. Non-meat options are also available for those who may so desire.
The meals are served quickly and are absolutely delicious! Portions are generous giving you good value for the money. While the servings may look like a lot, I found myself making sure there were no left-overs!
A full-sized bar also serves many spirits, wine and beer. I was intrigued by the "Margarita Tower" and may have to come prepared to try it next visit (bring "helpers").
Plenty of free parking and is conveniently located to a variety of other local businesses. Well worth the visit!
Hit the spot! Service was amazing! seated and drink order taken immediately. Food ordered and drinks on the table in 2 minutes....and food arrived in less than 10! Steak and Chicken dishes were both tasty! We'll definitely be back!!!
Ok, I saw the negative reviews and decided to try this restaurant anyway. I must say, I was quite impressed. They weren’t busy(11:30am) but I received great service.(restaurants typically have the worst service when they’re slow)
I happen to love Chalupas, but they weren’t on the menu. I asked my server and she brought out someone who asked all the right questions. I ended up enjoying one of the best chalupa’s ever! Good portions and evenly cooked with my rice and beans. I drank a margarita and it was almost excellent.(I could always use a little more alcohol. 🤭My server was friendly and personable. The manager was on the floor helping the serving staff even though they weren’t busy. I’m a third shift worker and even though it’s a Tuesday morning-it’s my Friday night. I felt special when they brought my food. Will definitely return! A+A+A+A+A+

My experience at El Aztecas was nothing short of delightful! As someone who adores Mexican food, I can confidently say that this place serves some of the most authentic and flavorful dishes in the area. The vibrant atmosphere and the warm, colorful decor made me feel like I was dining in the heart of Mexico.
What truly made our experience stand out was our exceptional waitress, Silvia. From the moment we arrived, she was incredibly attentive and welcoming. Her knowledge of the menu was impressive, and she offered valuable recommendations based on our preferences. Silvia took the time to explain the dishes in detail, which helped us decide on the perfect meal.
We started with the house-made guacamole, which was rich and creamy – the ideal appetizer to whet our appetites. For our main course, we enjoyed the Mole Poblano and Carne Asada, both of which were bursting with flavor and perfectly cooked. To top off our meal, we indulged in their scrumptious churros, served with a decadent chocolate sauce.
The overall service was swift and efficient, and Silvia frequently checked in on us to ensure our satisfaction. Her warm demeanor and genuine interest in our dining experience made us feel like valued guests, rather than just another table.

This was our first visit and we were really happy with the service and the food was very good. We will visit again and cannot wait for the Walker site to open.

I have to be honest, I consider myself a Mexican food connoisseur!! I grew up in Southern California with mostly Hispanic friends and around some seriously good authentic Mexican food. Michigan had very little to offer when I moved here 20 years ago. People recommended Beltline Bar. I remember saying what?!? That’s authentic Mexican??? 20 years later, Mexican restaurants are everywhere here! What I find interesting is people seem to think good Mexican food is just tacos. No!! Tacos are not all that Mexican food has to offer!! We recently found this place, and absolutely love it!! Enchiladas and burritos are excellent! The service is great, the food is great and the margaritas are delicious!!! I highly recommend this place. If you don’t like it, my guess is you don’t know authentic Mexican food. Stick with Beltline bar or other non-authentic Mexican taco places. Just know that is not true Mexican like this place is! 5 stars!
Our group all loved the meal! It was delicious and our waitress was friendly and attentive. We'll definitely go back again.
The only thing that I'd suggest to the restaurant would be to have a more spicy salsa. Even the "spicier one" didn't have much kick to it. Otherwise we all loved our meals, service and environment was all welcoming.
The chips and salsa are a great start. The entrees are all good, served hot and fast. A frequent stop when we visit the area.
Best authentic Mexican food I've had since living with a family in Mexico, also very very careful about allergies. I can't have gluten and they always are careful about my corn tortillas not being contaminated. Love them!

1st time visiting and will be back if ever in the area. The only negative is they do not offer additional baskets of chips & salsa- 1 & done and that doesn't go far with 4 people. But the servers were friendly, food came out hot & fast, and it was delicious!
Food was good, salsa that came with the chips tasted only like tomato, but I'm a stickler for good salsas. Place had a chemical smell when we entered, wonderful staff, and quick service. Not sure if I will be back. Not wowed by anything here. Your typical Mexican place.
For the most part we had fast service, the food came out quickly and the staff were humorous. Our waitress seemed to forget about us despite there only being 3 tables, but someone else filled in for them eventually and he was very helpful. Prices were kind of steep, but you got a lot of food for your buck.
It's always a pleasure coming here. The food is delicious, the staff are wonderful, I love it. I want to move closer to Allendale so it's not a 40 minute drive anymore. I miss being 5 minutes from here.
