I went to Humpy’s yesterday evening for a quick bite and a drink. Our waitress was INCREDIBLE! She was very enthusiastic and you could tell she loves what she does. The cider I wanted was out, and I was bummed but the waitress actually suggested a combination of two other ciders/fruit ales TOGETHER.... it was so great and I was actually very happy I ended up getting it! Our food was great, but also super fast. We split some oysters, I got their crab nuggets and my friend got the halibut tacos. We were both impressed. We both mentioned how amazed we were that the food was out so fast with how busy they were! We got our food in maybe 15-20 minutes and the place was packed!!! Very happy we decided to drop in.
Great place for good beer and seafood. Loved the atmosphere and the food was amazing!
Humpy’s never seems to disappoint with food, beer selection, service and music! It’s no wonder they’ve been around so many years and have such a great reputation! LOVE THIS PLACE!
Humpy‘s was recommended to us by two locals. It had the absolute best king crab legs we’ve ever had. Our first experience eating reindeer was amazing. They honored the veterans which was a six star rating as far as my husband and I were concerned. We would definitely go back again when in the area!
1st time here food was great nice place to go & have great seafood
Stopped by to watch golf. Draft beers were really good with 60 to choose from. The mix you own Bloody Mary was a good priced drink. The soup was excellent
Five of us attended pub quiz and had great food, great beer and great service. We didn’t win pub quiz but we had a really fun filled evening and did spend a lot doing it.
Fun place. Great burger and frye joint but also a lot of local flavors as well. Very clean and great service. Food arrived quickly. Prices OK but HUGE portions. Reindeer from local vendor was excellent. Was there with 8 others and we were all pleased.
Absolutely worth the wait! The salmon fish and chips were unbelievable, as were the other fish and chips. The beer selection was awesome! Wish we had found it sooner before leaving AK.
Always, always great food. Especially the Alaska salmon dishes. Lots of salmon choices and they're all fantastic! Try the salmon spread and the blackened salmon health nut plate. Yum-o.
Humpy's is first and foremost a bar. So if you're not into the bar scene and don't enjoy eating while surrounded by a lot of noise and people who have imbibed a wee bit too much, it's not your kind of place. Which is one of the reasons why it's been ages since I've visited Humpy's. The primary reason I no longer visit is the food seemed to take a downturn the last couple of times we visited. Their halibut fish fry has always been one of my favorites in town but the last two visits it was flavorless and mushy. Same with their other dishes - they all seemed to be cooked by someone who could only follow a recipe and had no cooking skill. We can find plenty of places in town where the food is much better and the atmosphere is more enjoyable. I'm giving it 3.5 stars for past enjoyment of their fish fry and for those who enjoy the loud obnoxious bar atmosphere more than I. That group would probably enjoy the experience enough to overlook the sub-par food.
Great service by folks who were moderately friendly. Nice atmosphere. Beers were delicious! We really enjoyed their take on clam chowder and calamari Dinner tastes great. I would recommend giving this place a try.
Great food and service, also has really friendly customers. Sit at the bar and chat away to follow travellers or locals. Watch out for Jacob's cunning stunts behind the bar 😉
I enjoy coming to Humpy's time and time again because it always has a great atmosphere and the food is delicious! No matter who our server is, we get plenty of attention and our food comes out in a timely manner. It's one of my favorite bars to visit in downtown Anchorage for food, feels truly Alaskan. You can't make reservations as far as I'm aware. But with that knowledge, we always show up a bit earlier than we plan to eat in case we need to look for a table because seating is first come, first serve. But it works out.
Come in the winter and save yourself some money and the hassle of being with the tourists. Definitely come for the bar games when they have them.
Nice staff, good food, reasonable prices. Halibut Tacos are great - can easily split one order for two if you want to. Lots of beer choices! A great place to catch a game too. Definitely recommended.
Best halibut burger anywhere. If you know of a better place for a char-broiled halibut burger, let me know. Ain't nobody got one better. But I will not dine here again while Trump is blaring on the TVs.
The Tiger Prawns & lightly breaded cod were very good, & while the french fries were freezer-to-fryer (not our preference for sure) they were fried crispy as ordered. The highballs were of good potency, & the berry crisp a la mode was as advertised (very good).
Anna provided superior service considering how jammed & noisy the place was. $59 (incl tip) for two bourbons n' sprites, prawns, cod, & crisp
Good well known bar in downtown Anchorage with Alaskan brews on tap and yummy crab sandwiches. The smoked salmon dip is addicting. This place gets really packed so avoid peak times unless you wanna wait a while for any place to sit. Live music some nights as well.
I eat here every time I travel to Anchorage. Down to earth atmosphere always a huge selection of beers, good food, and lots of TVs for sports viewing. Overall a must see if you pass through this Alaskan city.
I live in downtown Anchorage, I like to walk and wander in the shopping district a few days a week and then get a snack and beverage before going home. A day drinker. I occasionally wander into Humpy's.
As an older woman I enjoy that the afternoon, after the lunch crowd has gone, is quiet, the staff is attentive, quick and professional and I am not bothered by the other patrons. I feel safe.
I also like the low carb, healthy dishes I can choose from. Health Nut halibut or chicken are my favorites. I love their salads, always fresh, crisp and huge. I love the hummus platter, especially in the summer on the patio.
I wish Humpy's would consider replacing or reupholstering the booths, they are uncomfortable and lumpy. Adding a few more appetizers, small ones and a happy hour with discounted apps.
Humpy's is a must stop every time we are in Anchorage. Fabulous food and drinks! Looking forward to trying Humpy's in Kona this spring!!!
Love the beer selection, especially what's on tap. It's often busy and that makes it quite noisy and often hard to find a table. Service is usually good, but not always. I love their food, but it seems a bit expensive for many of their items.
Local beers, great staff, the food is excellent, live music, they even have a build your own bloody Mary bar that I have yet to try. During the summer it is hard to find a table at certain hours because of tourist though and they don't take reservations, but that is just a good sign of how great they are.
Great atmosphere and awesome customer service love the new rewards program definitely somewhere to enjoy weekly!!! Service is quick and food is presented well, they are also great with beverage knowledge staff is very well trained
While this bar leans a bit toward the tourist trap end of the spectrum the food is really good. I have been here a couple of times now and the fish is always fresh and the meals have been consistent. The only downside is the service is pretty slow and the staff is not very attentive. The food is still worth the wait and it has me coming back.
Love, love, love the beer-battered halibut fish and chips! When family or friends visit AK I take them to Humpy's for fish and chips!! It's always a winner!
Went here Friday for a late lunch. It was after 1 and figured it would be dead but it was packed! Lots of tourists even with the terrible weather. Snuck into a seat at the bar and expected a long wait for food, but it was super fast. They were on it that day. Had the Halibut Wrap which was pretty decent and the King Crab nuggets which were awesome as always.
Humpy's always has very good food and a fun atmosphere. We have fresh Salmon over rice that was as delicious as any I've every had. The service is friendly and attentive but never oppressive or scripted. Relaxed, fun, affordable and always high quality, we love going to Humpy's.
Locals who love it. We are local, and have been Humpy's devotees since it opened. Best halibut burger in town!
Humpy's Great Alaskan Alehouse. The lobster/crab roll sandwich was very tasty with the toasted bun.
They were also giving away prizes as it was Board Night.
The service was friendly.
Good Burgers. Best burgers downtown. Daily specials keep things interesting.
Humpy's. Really tasty food and great service but a little expensive. I had the Horseradish encrusted Halibut. It came with a dollop of garlic mashed potatoes and some steamed veggies. The "amount" of food was the bad part - small serving of fish, probably 6oz I'd guess. I'd go back here but I also want to try a few other seafood places in ANC too. Oh, I also had a 1/2 of Red King Salmon crab legs - that's only 1 leg mind you. They charged $22 for that -simply outrageous I think.
Loved it!. In Anchorage one night in transit from Australia it was recommended that we come here. We loved it! Food was nice but the service was great. Our waitress Bonnie was fantastic, had the gift of the gab. Well done!
This USA great local hangout. Food is excellent. Had Halibut and fries. Huge portions, great price. Excellent local beer. This place is a gem. Come early, parking sucks.
Greasy spoon, but a GOOD greasy spoon!. Best fish & chips in Anchorage- hands down. The halibut fish & chips is my go-to order every time I've come in. The halibut is done perfectly; it is always done just right and isn't too greasy. And although I usually don't like tartar sauce, I can eat theirs with a spoon. Not to mention the ambience is cool and Humpy's has a ton of great local beers on tap.
Great beer, Salmon Spread is awesome, and the Blackend Salmon salad is awesome. Well just about everything there is great! Only issue is that it is always packed which makes it hard to get a table if you want to eat. Oh it's also a seat yourself place. It's my go to place for Anchorage.
Worth the trip. When I saw that it was listed as "one of the 100 best beer houses in the country" I had to go. Make no mistake, its a bar with live music, but that is a good thing. The beer selection was pretty amazing and apparently changes constantly. I had the crab nuggets that were very good. Two came out that had gotten stuck together in the fryer and so weren't cooked all the way. I wasn't too worried about it, but my server insisted on bringing more that were cooked correctly. Local music, good food, great beer and an authentic Alaskan "joint". What's not to love?
More of an atmosphere than restaurant. After living here for 4+ years, seeing it on Lost (Sawyer's T-shirt), Man Vs. Food, DDD, etc, we finally went for lunch today. As expected, it's a bar-like place. You seat yourself, which is fine. It's a little rough, but feels Alaskany. The food was good, and considering you're basically in a beer bar, it's quite unexpected. If you're going out to dinner, it may be a loud place to go. If you're going out for the night and want to eat something, it's an EXCELLENT choice. I had the Salmon Burger, and it was good... nothing really exciting, but good. I'd go back, but I'm not dying to go back.
Excellent clam chowder and burgers! I will definitely return, probably several times :-) delicious!
Halibut nuggets. Nuff said. Oh their tartar sauce is awesome too.
The food was great! The staff was awesome. We went on New Years Eve and still had wonderful service all night long! I really appreciate the great live music and the fun atmoshepere.
I've eaten here multiple times and have hardly had a negative experience. Halibut tacos, halibut anything, and the king crab nuggets!
Food has improved but why is the place so loud after 8pm in the whole place? Would be nice to have a place to visit with others and talk rather than shout. Great beer selection. Always changes. Food is coming out better but was going downhill for a while in late 2011 to mid 2012. A little bit spendy still. Need to bring back the wings and hot wing sauce on Fridays. Finally there is one little area where you can still talk without screaming/talking when the band plays. Loud does not make the music better. The statement that regulars go here is true up until about 8 and then it is the deaf regulars. The wait staff have been consistently attentive but there has been newer folks more recently so that remains to be seen. Still, a good spot to meet up and have some good food and a great beer selection and talk, at least until about 8 or 9.Update as of March 2016 -- still excellent beer selection. They are trying on the food but it seems that someone somewhere has decided that it is good to have a constant change of staff so basically you are getting a trainee about 70% of the time. That puts off the regulars and certainly doesn't help with the bottom line when you have folks come in asking what beer goes well with things and all the new staff ever has had previously is PBR.
Great Seafood. In May we visited Anchorage and I took my family to Humpys. The seafood was great. Nice atmosphere and great service. Id go back and eat here again!
Decent place to eat. We have eaten at Humpy's several times and it has always been decent. I personally wouldn't put it in the running for any awards, but the beer selection is great and I've never had a bad meal there. If they could figure out the seating situation we would probably eat there more often, but overall it is worth the hassle. They are definitely way better than any national chains in town.
Good food, but definitely overpriced by a few bucks. The atmosphere is good on nights you're looking to get a good buzz going, other than that the service is sub-par. Not a great value, but still worth checking out.
Tasty food, but almost always have to wait for a seat. Humpy's is great. I love their food, beer, and even their draft root beer is super tasty also. I could eat their beer battered halibut chunks all night!!
Unfortunately it is so great that it is almost always constantly overflowing. Getting seated is your own task and sometimes can be a difficult one at that. But honestly, I don't mind the wait!
I've eaten here plenty of time and every time it's been enjoyable. Yeah sometimes it's really busy and the service can slow down, but it's never been anything to complain about! Huge beer selection & and great food. Everything I've ordered has been awesome, no complaints from any of my experiences there!
