The Chinese dinner menu is the only way to go. I have been coming here since it opened and it's sister restaurant China Cooks before that. I particularly like the seafood wadonho, flat rice noodles with an egg sauce with scallops, shrimp, and squid, the spicy eggplant with pork or the crispy noodles.
It was quite by accident that my father and I discovered this fine restaurant. We were very pleasantly surprised when we stopped in for lunch and found it to be excellent! Both the service and the food were first-rate, and the prices were very reasonable. We will be back!
This is the best Chinese food around. They have a large Asian clientele, so you know it's good.
The food is really good and fresh!! And they give you huge portions!! However after a while we felt as if they were rushing us to leave. My boyfriend and I were having wine for his birthday so we finished up and paid our bill.
"Authentic" beef noodle soup... and open late too!

My mother in law brought us food from here the day my son was born. The sea bass is delicious and the fried rice is the best in Atlanta imho.

Love canton cooks. Great food. Great service. I love going there.
The food is Delicious : Always fresh the only Chinese Restaurant my family and I will ever eat at !!!!!
Great large servings and food and appetizers. Services was very quick and I had around 12 glasses of water. They were always filling up my cup. Asked for chili paste and had some in 20 seconds. Will be back!!!
September 27, 2015 · by willoughbyandy · in Asian, Atlanta (Outside the Perimeter), Georgia, Roswell / Sandy Springs · Leave a comment. On a rainy Sunday, we went looking for a Chinese restaurant from my list, China Cooks (this one had been on the list for five or more years). As I was looking for the address on Google, I ran across several Yelp reviews, almost all of whom said that they only ate at China Cooks, when they could not get into Canton Cooks. That sounded like we needed to head to Canton Cooks instead, so we did. We arrived a little before they opened, at noon, and found a couple of places to wander through in the strip mall that they share with Whole Foods.
You can find Canton Cooks at 5984 Roswell Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30328 in the Exchange shopping center anchored by Whole Foods, at the intersection of Hammond and Roswell roads. You can also find two of my favorites, Hearth Pizza and Mike's Hotdogs in the same shopping center so there are several alternatives if you're not in the mood for Chinese food.
Only Lunch. I've only had lunch. They offer the full menu if you ask and what I have had off of that has been excellent. They have a Thai? Style hot and sour soup which is a bit larger portion and very good. As for the regular lunch menu: It's a bit Amercanised. What I mean here is that you will see things like egg foo yung, lo mein, and the like. The difference is that these guys make it from scratch with the freshest of ingredients. I had double cooked (2x cooked) pork for lunch the other day. The sauce was light and flavorful. The meat tasted fresh, not 3 months old and sitting in a freezer. Veggies were crisp and fresh. I also like the eff foo yung although some may not consider this "authentic" Chinese, but the portion is huge, the brown rice, wing, soup are all fresh and hot. The efy itself is very fresh as well. Bean sprouts snap, fresh tasting meat and other veg. And a decent sauce (I like mine with a bit more tart, but theirs is good). Again, items on the main menu that I have had during lunch (all leaning more towards what I call real Chinese vs. Amercanised) are incredible. Very Fresh. This place is worth the visit
Great food, meh service. Ive been going to canton cooks for a while and I have decided that they have some of the best Chinese food around but the service is definitely sub-par. I get the house egg foo young and I think it is probably the best in the city. It is always consistent and it's never soupy and oily like some other places. However, I do feel that I'm only going to eat with them takeout style from now on, their at least pretty good with that.
Salt and Pepper Squid. Canton Cooks is pretty good, just a touch better than any other Chinese takeout place. I do like the salt and pepper squid.
Our go to Chinese spot. Best egg rolls in Atlanta, fresh, fast. Doesn't disappoint. And you know it has to be good when half of the restaurant is Chinese. Try it!
NY Style. I am a native New Yorker and everyone knows the absolute best place to go for Chinese Food is NY. I mean almost anywhere in NY, be it China Town or a strip mall location on Middle Country Road out on (Selden) Long Island. Let me tell you Canton Cooks' food is terrific and is every bit as good as those NY eateries. I tried my typical comparision staples which includes fried rice, hot tea, and ending with the flavor of the fortune cookie. Five Stars.... Now I can go back and begin my journey trying the rest of the menu.
Great late night dinner place. After hearing at about it I finally went with some friends. Reminds me of the more traditional type restaurants you see up north. Will go again soon.
Wonderful Chinese Food!. We went here based on a recommendation from a stranger we met in a dim sum restaurant...and I am glad we followed his advice. The restaurant is in a shopping strip and is not fancy but the food is delicious. We like salt & pepper shrimp (shell and heads on), snow pea leaves, garlic eggplant, and thin pan-fried noodle with shrimp. This place closes on Wednesday, and if you go Friday night, expect to wait 20 - 30 minutes for a table.
When in the mood for authentic chinese food with good quality then come here. The best are the crispy egg noodles with the gravy and seafood on top. Service is not so great but the food makes up for it.
Canton Cooks? Boy do they ever!. Since we've moved here in August, I've been on the hunt for a great, authentic, Chinese restaurant (unheard of in my hometown in OH). After doing some major research,(here, Yelp, & asking a couple of our new Korean, Chinese, and Japanese neighbors in our complex) I decided to give Canton Cooks a try. When we got there, I was instantly pleased. You see, eventhough the place has dated, shabby decor, the smells coming from the kitchen were AMAZING! I ordered the Cantonese Crispy Noodles, and the Snow Pea Leaves (neither of which I'd had before). My love ordered more cautiously...General Tso's chicken. You would've thought that there was something MUCH more amorous going on in our dining room than eating based the noises we were making! We've been back for takeout at least 6 more times & are NEVER disappointed....even the chicken wings are FAB! When we finally decide to sit down there, I'll let you know how that goes.
Delish. A little pricey and the portions were smaller than we are used to but overall the food had a great taste and we enjoyed it.
Great, tasteful. This is by far the best Cantonese restaurant in Atlanta. There are numbers of dishes to choose from and each taste great. It is always packed when I go, and it is obvious why. I will keep coming here with my family.
Canyon cooks is an excellent Chinese restraunt. The food is excellent and the service is good. In my opinion they need to clean up their bathrooms, they are discusting. They are going to lose customers for that. But over all it is great. It is better if you know what your ordering and if you know everyone their.
Authentic Chinese. This place is a hole in the wall, but the food here is good. You HAVE to go with someone who knows what to order for the best selections. I love their Salt and Pepper Squid and Snow pea leaves. I forget the other things we order, but it has always been good.
You know these Americana Chinese joints. They are a dime a dozen in the burbs. Good ones however are very few and far between. Canton Cooks is one of the good ones. Any night of the week this place is packed with both Americans and Asians. This may explain why none of the fried food has a dirty oil taste. The turnout is so fast and quality is being controlled. It's also being cooked at the correct temperature so the food isn't coming out oily or oil breaking down. I won't go so far to say as the fried food is light by any means but it has a clean flavor. I am reviewing the basics to see how they stack up against others of their kind: The egg rolls are crispy and fat. Chicken wings are light and crunchy, again I appreciate that they taste like chicken and not dirty oil. Sweet and sour pork. Finally !!! A sweet and sour that boasts more than being greasy and flat. Sweet and sour needs more balance and this one has it (it's still a low rent sauce in general but this is one of the tast
The war shu duck features large hunks of crispy fried duck over broccoli, bamboo shoots and water chestnuts. It comes with a large tureen of white rice.
Their Wor Sue Duck is great. It's like eating crispy fried chicken, but with duck instead of chicken.
Canton Cooks is a restaurant found on the corner of Hammond Road and Roswell Road, in the same strip mall as Whole Foods, and is next door to Hearth Pizza Tavern . The outside is plain, looking like any other strip mall Chinese restaurant, and doesn't rea
Recently I've become acquainted with Canton Cooks, an excellent Chinese restaurant in Sandy Springs (in the Whole Foods shopping center). There is often a wait on weekends and I've seen quite a few Chinese cli
Best Chinese food in Atlanta, hands down. Consistently delicious. (I am Chinese)
House fried rice is delicious including Chinese sausage. Salt and pepper pork chops are amazing and the jalapeños give them a perfect kick. Green beans with minced pork or beef, delicious. Calamari is perfectly seasoned and also delicious!
Pictures are from two separate dinners there.
I honestly don’t think you can go wrong ordering anything on the menu. We will certainly be back soon to try more of the menu, along with our favorites listed above. Enjoy!
Visiting Atlanta for work...tried Canton Cooks...and I'm glad I did. Food was delicious and Hot...fried rice and chicken wings were amazing. You know a place is good when there are older Asians coming to eat while you are there. Great atmosphere and a plus was that they even spoke Spanish.
Good service, bad Chinese food. Bad service, good Chinese food. You can’t have the best of both worlds. Besides, can you really call it bad service if they bring out your food promptly without all the bells and whistles? I was so excited to see steamed sole on the menu as it’s my favourite Cantonese dish and I’ve never seen it offered anywhere in Atlanta. Unfortunately, the current market price is a bit high at $38.
SO HAPPY! First time visitor on a recommendation. Sesame chicken, pork fried rice, lobster in Green Onion and Ginger sauce, chicken lo mein, crunchy noodle, egg rolls, and white rice. This is wonderful food with fast and friendly service. My picky 7yo now loves Chinese food and says we must return soon! Looking forward to making this a tradition!
I wanted to see why I would always see a line here. This evening we visited for the first time.
Pros: thank you Yang for helping our table . Yang is a bus boy and was the only guy that attended us. Food was fresh, perfect temperature and delicious. The price is $15 -$18 a plate. We got the special 2 for $45 ( appetizer, soup and 2 entrees).
I would say one plate is good for two people. It’s a lot of food so it’s worth the money. Yet they seem understaffed and not being attended or checked on makes me not want to return.
Cons: 20-30 min wait to sit and another 15 mins to get a waiter’s attention.
Verdict: I say come check them out. It was delicious authentic Cantonese food. But I don’t think I’ll return after the long wait. We felt ignored when trying to flag a waiters attention many times and that matters to me. I think Buddha blessed their business because it sure is busy! $$$
Total for 2: $55 not including tip( 1 soda)
Tip: Oh don’t come here too hungry because you’ll have to wait !
Friday night family dinner was excellent! We had 7 people and it was great for sharing. Everything was awesome! Fresh seafood. Great flavors!
We had pan fried sole and sea bass, seafood chow mein, clams in black bean sauce, salt and pepper calamari, snow peas, chicken wings, crab ragoon and dragon soup. Everything was delicious!! It was a ton of food and great for sharing.
Friendly service. Very helpful and happy to explain what things were. Even let us order off menu. I will definitely be back! They are open later too.
Great food and generous portions! I came on a Saturday for lunch, and ordered Spicy Garlic Pork. The food came out quickly, and was hot and fresh! I would definitely go back and try other dishes.
I didn't like how dim the inside of the restaurant was inside. For some reason the restaurant had half of the ceiling lights off the day I went. The atmosphere could really be improved by turning on all the lights.
I have been coming to Canton cooks for a long time more than 12-13 years I would say they have the best chines food and it’s authentic we love it, their Mongolian beef is amazing get not too sweet is just perfect try it if not other dishes are good as well.
I just want to say that the food in this establishment is VERY delicious! My family and I came to eat dinner here two days in a row, we couldn’t have enough. Not only was the food extremely satisfying, but the staff and servers were very wonderful and accommodating. They were very quick with the food and are so quick to refill our water glasses! The food is a littleee pricy, but the food portion is worth every penny. A single plate of chicken fried rice can feed 3 people. Loved the music they played: family friendly if you have children. The only downside in my opinion is that the only drink they serve is water (which is free). All love from Ohio!
Best Cantonese chinese food you can get in Atlanta. Normal chines restaurant atmosphere but has the best tasting food for price. It's been a favorite for the last 20 years.
Delicious foods and not so great customer service. Get the stir fried sweet and salty Lobster (the dried , without sauce one) because it is the best!
I’ve been going here with my family since I was a child! I’m now in my thirties. This is the only Chinese food place we go to. The salt and pepper squid and pan fried noodles is our go-to.
No frills but excellent food! I've been eating here for over 20 years. Consistently good food with fresh ingredients. Staff 8s very friendly.
