Always great and innovative with their menu, (including weekly specials) Eddie Hernandez keeps Taqueria Del Sol the always consistent, delicious and popular destination that it is. Don't let the line out the door scare you, it moves fast!
Great service and atmosphere. The only down side was standing in a long line, but the food was so worth the wait! The best green enchiladas and definitely get the queso and salsa. Equaled our love for the original location.❤❤❤
We ordered take out here. Excellent fish and pulled pork tacos. Best cheese dip I've had, but chips could use more salt. Margarita was great and ready at the register!
The Starving Husband
+4.5
This place is just as good as the one in Athens, and just as efficient. Food is good, quick and service is great. Great to know that this is close to many of the places that the wife and I go to while in ATL. We will come back. Fish taco, fried chicken taco and carne enchilada. Awesome.
Our regular readers know how I am strong on appetizers. I looking for something a little different and I really found it at PURE taqueria. I ordered the Tres Ceviches which is shrimp, grouper and octopus served crudo (yes, cold and raw). Now if that doesn’t sound like it appeals to you, you really have to try it. I was a little iffy about the octopus because when I’ve had this in the past it’s always been really chewy, but this was amazing. I soon began to look at the shrimp ceviche as boring, the grouper ceviche interesting and the octopus ceviche was big league goodness.
I ordered the Tacos Pescado and I loved this dish, especially with the charro beans. The charro beans are pinto beans with a nice little kick to them. Even if you don’t like it hot, you’ll enjoy these because it isn’t a strong kick. The remoulade sauce that they use with the fish, complements the coleslaw and the fish well and overall this is a great meal.
This location is a favorite for lunch. I've tried everything on the menu, but return to the fish or pork tacos. All a la carte, so you can mix'em up.... I recommend you do. The salsa trio is a must, as well. The lunch crowd is getting almost unbearable and if you're not on line even before the doors open, you WILL wait. The line does move though, and everybody realizes that it's not a place to tarry.....keep that in mind if you are thinking of a leisurely terrace meal with friends. These folks run a well oiled machine here and I would give a 5 star review for taste, service, and consistency..... But there are a few marks off for the hustle and bustle. Still, you wanna quick, delicious taco or three? There is NO better place.... Bring it!
You can find this location of Taqueria Del Sol at 2165 Cheshire Bridge Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30324 along the infamous Cheshire Bridge Rd (hidden between industrial and commercial expanses and the occasional "interesting" business establishment - heh). This is the original location of the flagship restaurant Sundown Cafe and what amounts to at Atlanta institution (if anything can be called that).
Yum, yum and more yum. This is a must have in Atlanta. I love Mexican cuisine and this ranks up there in my top five quick little delicious joys. They have great food and awesome drinks. What more can you ask for?
Been going to this location for about 6 years and they are very consistent. I love the fact that the food always taste fresh and the staff is on point at all times. Always a place to sit even though they're always busy! You just have to wait in line to order and then find a table.
Best Tacos in the City. There are a lot of places in Atlanta trying to serve some unique tacos. Twisted Taco and Tin Lizzy's are two of the most popular but they don't compare to Taqueria Del Sol.
I usually shy away from seafood in tacos but I can safely say that their fish tacos are the best in the city and may be in the country. It is simply incredible. There is nothing on the menu that is bad. Everything is way above average. It is easily in my top 5 places to eat in Atlanta and if you are looking for a casual place to grab a taco, nothing fits your budget or taste like this place.
Delicioso!!. The pork green chili is decadent! I had the cheese enchiladas with that sauce and it was heavenly. The brisket is melt in your mouth tender and though customer service isnt the best, the food more than makes up for it. Bonus: the price is right!!!
A Go To. Line out the door every weekday night. Tacos are great, entrees are always good. Can't go wrong
Great lunch place!. I stopped by for lunch and it was pretty loud, but the food was great! We ordered a queso and guac to share, and it was amazingly fresh and tasty. Then I got a brisket enchilada with lemon cream sauce and a fried chicken taco. Both were exceptional. I would definitely recommend this place for a great lunch stop.
Enjoy it. I love this place. Yeah they fall into the category of Taco Mac, and even La Fonda. Truthfully anyplace that doesnt do authentic Mexican tacos falls into this category, but within this category, they are tops. Good simple choices done well and consistent. Good space, and comfortable environ. They day I went, the line was out the door. I will retrun, and will bring many wih me....
Plain and simple. Is there a better place for lunch in Atlanta? No way. Get one or two of the Memphis taco and the Fried Chicken taco and you're on your way to heaven.
I just love this place! There's no where I would rather get Mexican food. The quality of the food is so great and I have never been dissatisfied with it. You must must go! Best tacos in Atlanta!!
Ridiculously addicting. Don't go to El Taco or Twisted Taco--go to TDS and thank me later. Amazing food and atmosphere, but beware, the line can get long. Don't worry, go inside, grab a pitcher of margs, and wait for bliss.
If you are looking for taco's, this is the place. Even though taqueria del sol is not "authentic" Mexican, the taco's make up for any skeptics you may have. The main basis here is the food, the decor is nice and simple, white wood tables and chairs, no table cloth. I would recommend the salsa trio, a mix of a traditional salsa, a green salsa (my favorite) and a smoky salsa. The guacamole is also top notch and the queso as well. There is nothing bad on the menu, and the specials, which change weekly, are always superb. To add on to this, the service is lightning fast; normally with the server following you to your seat once you order (you order at the counter and then sit). In fact, the only place that is faster may be a McDonalds. So, even though taqueria del sol is not an authentic Mexican place, it is a taco junkies dream, and a great Mexican themed meal at a great price.
This restaurant surpasses all other specialty taco restaurants in terms of quality of the food. This is the one and only aspect that separates it from other restaurants in Atlanta. I will definitely be coming back again as their food is unreplicated anywhere else. Uniqueness gets a B-
On Thursday my friend Kimberly and I dined at Taqueria del Sol on Cheshire Bridge Road, excited about enjoying the nice weather on their patio. This place is famous for long lines and a distinct attitude - don't dare choose a table before you'
A place to try especially their brisket. It's the bomb. I haven't tried everything but what I have tried so far has been good and the brisket is sure #1 on the list. Their margarita is very popular but has a good reason. Service is good and people are friendly. I've been back a few times and sure will go back.
The Blue Plate lunch special is hands down, best lunch special I have ever eaten.... EVER! No exaggeration. It was tender, extremely tasty, and a nice sized portion. In fact, so delicious I went back the next day to eat it again and now that I'm writing this I'm craving it🤤 We've also had the brisket, fried chicken, and fish tacos. Again, all so delicious, no condiments needed kind of delicious!
YUMMY. I had their only vegetarian taco option plus a side of their cheese dip, and both were great! The taco is so simple, but SO TASTY; I then had to go back to the register and order 2 more! Bonus: the prices are pretty low.
Service for both ordering and for receiving our food was quick, but there was still a line out the door for the entire time I was there, on a Monday evening! To me, that means this is good stuff!
I got tacos and enchiladas with some sides, to go. Food was tasty, well-spiced without being "hot" spicy. Loads and loads of cheese and sauce on the enchiladas. Meat was tender and toppings fresh on tacos. The regular refried beans were my favorite part, great flavor!
I'd have liked to see a corn tortilla option for the tacos. The greens were mostly liquid but they tasted great. I don't dig the cafeteria/counter service vibe, especially for the prices (approaching $5/taco).
Talk to your beer rep about getting a good NA beer on your list. Lots of great choices out there and O'Douls just doesn't cut it anymore. Same rep can get you Budweiser Zero.
Food was fantastic, line moved quickly, and our order was served fast. The fried chili relleno was amazing, too bad it is only for a limited time...the fried crunchy battered outside is very good. Enjoyed three different tacos; smoked pork, brisket, and the fried chicken. All were great.
Creative.tacos, excellent margaritas and tasty cheese dip! I tried the taco special which was a ballpark and it was so tasty! Also had the fried chicken and pulled pork...both also tasty! Always a line so be patient. Lots of tables both inside and outside.
Taqueria Del Sol is consistently good. The cheese dip and guacamole ($4.99 each) are delicious and are bigger than they look. I always get the Memphis Taco, sub brisket ($3.29) and the Fried Chicken Taco, add cheese ($3.19). Two tacos with the cheese dip and guacamole are enough for me. My husband gets three tacos though.
You wait in line and order at the counter. The bar is first come, first served and you get full service at the bar. Even if the line to order takes a while, the food comes out very quickly. Their margaritas are eh. I always end up regretting getting them.
Overall, I recommend!

First time visiting I was not let down in any way shape or form give them your money eat some good tacos. Get the fish taco trust me.
For the reader:
The tacos were really simplistic from what I am accustomed to eating with a taco, for example the fish tacos were just tilapia Jalapenos and tartar sauce, sounds kind of sketchy yes I agree, but the combination is delicious.. I have never been a fan of tartar sauce but on this taco it fits perfectly with the jalapeno, I tried the chicken taco, the brisket taco, and the pork. I did get the brisket without the pico but I actually regret that after tasting the fish taco with the tartar sauce. Just like tartar sauce, I am not a huge fan of pico de gallo, but I feel like I would try it with the Pico the next time.
A friend accompanying me ordered one of the enchiladas and it looked really delicious I would definitely try that the next time I visit. We also ordered the salsa Trio, all three salsas were pretty good the most amazing part of them that they were made fresh and you can taste that it is fresh, it tastes way different from many other restaurants. I mixed all three salsas with the queso and was pleasantly surprised, it was kind of a joke but it turned out to be really good.
I was a little disappointed in the queso dip I have definitely had better queso dip, it was not bad just not as good as I've had before. I was a little upset that the server did spill a good portion of the queso dip onto the saucer plate that held the bowl and did not bother even offer to refill it. Be prepared to wait in line there was a bit of a wait You Do Not sit down and order, you order at the counter when you come in. They will definitely be multiple return trips in the future.
Sorry no menus in the pic this time but I will get them the next time I go
Really great food for a great affordable price. If you can't afford this place you just shouldn't eat. Or you should at least go get a minimum wage job. But even with that that said, the food tastes like it's worth 10x more than how much you pay. Lastly, the Westside drink is evacuate.
This is a hometown favorite spot for comfort food. Frequently, the ordering queue extends into the parking lot. Not to worry, the line moves quickly.
The kitchen staff with together like a well-oiled machine. The hot food is consistently delivered in short order. The specials rotate so there is always something new to try out. I usually request tacos; on this trip i had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and greens. It was so good!
Fantastic selection of tequilas, great tacos and specials. Highly recommend this place for some tacos & margaritas.
Yummy tasty tacos are the order of the day here. They've burritos too.
The specials are often the way to go and the prepackaged margaritas are tasty and handy.
They're taking serious Covid precautions with dividers, masks required, and keeping you out of the building as much as possible.
Wheelchair accessibility is easy and they have food for Vegans, gluten-free, and vegetarians.
Very clean space! The lobby was closed due to COVID-19 but the patio was open for takeout if you wanted to eat there. Will definitely be back for more tacos and margaritas
Best bean enchilada I had in my life. Great service, delicious, fast, and great atmosphere. Thanks I’ll definitely comeback with family.
TDS is an Atlanta institution. I go here probably once a week. Even if there's a line (and there usually is), it moves quickly. The food is always great and the weekly specials are always a hit.
I come to Atlanta every year for the holidays, and insist on coming here every time I'm in town. It's amazing. We don't get "cheese sauce" like this in California, and the fried chicken taco is two of my favorite foods put together.
The folx working are always nice, the food comes out fast, and the space has great vibes. There's a great patio for when it's sunny, and a little indoor covered patio for when it's not.
I miss it when I'm gone
