One of my favorite Atlanta area Asian restaurants. We sampled 3 entrees new to us today and they were all so good. The food here isn't afflicted by Americanized tastes. The full spice set is utilized.Cleanliness and service were good, not great. I come here for the food!
Had the house beef filet with spinach and sooo good! The menu seems very authentic as opposed to other restaurants that have an Americanized feel. Also had the dumplings for an appetizer which was tasty. My fiancé had the salt and pepper spare ribs which was really tasty as well. Will definitely be back! The only thing that was missing was alcoholic beverages. Apparently they recently stopped selling alcohol.
Three Kinds Dumpling (9). This appetizer can also be selected as a delicious fish-based broth soup with ong choy!
Bo Bo Garden is located at 5181 Buford Hwy NE, Doraville GA 30340 in the Pine Tree shopping plaza on the Eastern side of the highway. It's in the crook of the elbow made up by a long string of shops and restaurants. Many of you will know this shopping center as host to Chef Liu (on the far Northern end) - Bo Bo Garden is on the Southern end. Or to be more provincial, right across from the McDonald's. As with most establishments on Buford Hwy many restaurants can be tricky to find - luckily Bo Bo Garden is plainly written on signage on the front of the facade. We tried out Bo Bo Garden on the recommendation of my friend and neighbor Paul, who tends to find out-of-the-way places to fulfill his culinary explorations. He had warned us beforehand that the restaurant was much larger than what you would expect from the facade and we weren't disappointed - it occupies much of the building to the end on the right but that isn't immediately apparent. We visited around 7:30 on a Sunday night and it was quite busy, mostly with Asian customers and a smattering of Doraville locals. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated and were immediately served some delicious lightly salted peanuts. The restaurant had a variety of seating and was medium-lit so the menu was easy to read (I only mention this as many BufHy establishments have glaring bright lights that are a bit blinding). The atmosphere was quite hectic with lots of Asian languages from all sides. When we first sat, we were the only non-Asians (although I'm not sure if I qualify there) but soon there was another largish table). The menu, in a word is quite beautiful - I was taken aback at the nice embossing and gilt - the design is awesome. Inside you'll find several orange pages of items to explore - most of the pricing was on the low end of the $10-20 range, with a few items above. I only photographed a few pages (hate to be too obnoxious, especially the first go-around). We had a really amazing server, an older gentleman w
Crispy Roasted Duck. Awesome roasted duck
Good Cantonese Food. I stopped in for a late dinner last night and was pleased to see the menu was fairly authentic and lacked your Americanized Chinese restaurant offerings. The decor is pretty upscale for a small place in a strip mall and the staff was very friendly.
I went with the Curry Chicken Special. It comes with a bowl of steamed rice, six steamed dumplings, and a bowl of bone-in chicken and potatoes simmering in a curry sauce. The chicken and curry sauce was extremely tasty and the dumplings were light and airy. My only complaint was that there were tiny bits of bone in the curry; I'm guessing from when they chop the chicken up. This made eating it a little difficult, but the flavors more than made up for it.
I am looking forward to another meal here and trying more of their dishes.
Outstanding value at lunch - Good Cantonese !!
Outstanding food and service. We had a dinner with eight dishes and all of them were excellent - very accurate to what I've had in China. The waiter's recommendation of black-pepper-spiced seafood in a clay pot was everyone favorite. The place was busy with Chinese-appearing people and there were lots of cars in the lot. The menu is huge os there are lots of opportunities to try different things. Don't expect white tablecloths.
A little closer to reality.... Tucked away off the usual strip of Buford highway, you'll find more unusual and authenitc dishes here. No Kung Pao Chicken, or Mongolian Beef...just fresh ingredients with recipes that seem to attract a 10:1 ratio of asians...most of whom seem to speak native languages, including the wait staff who is warm and accommodating. Owner had restaurants in New York, and decided to move south for warmer weather, and clientele. Tasty!
Best Canton Lunch Value Meal in Buford Hwy. This is a must try place for those who love fish & Canton cooking. The lunch value meal at $5.25 per pax comes with an impressive whole foot long fish (a few varieties to chose from), winter melon soup and rice.
My recommendation is that you go with at least 2 friends so that the combined 3 dishes will be a great affordable sumptuous meal. I've tried the fried tilapia in tomato sauce, steamed garlic fish filets, black pepper beef, bitter melon, brinjal (or some called it eggplant) with pork mixed and crispy prawns and the dishes practically "wow" me over.
The chef is pretty good and I must say that this new restaurant is going to be a rising star that will take over "Canton Cooks" as the best Canton restaurant in Atlanta.
After some heavy craving for authentic Chinese food around Buford Highway, we decided to check out Bo Bo Garden located in the corner of Pinetree Shopping Center. My friends have been going here for years but for some reason, I never got around to check it out until now. If you’re looking for the authentic Chinese family style cuisine and not some bogus P.F. Chang, Bo Bo Garden should be the first spot to check out on your list. With an empty stomach and an appetite of a T-Rex, I was ready to put my game face on!
Bo Bo Garden is a restaurant with a great deal of coverage in the blogs and media (Jennifer Zyman twice, with a first article on her blog and an excellent follow up on Creative Loafing. Foodie Buddha has also weighed in here ). However, it hasn't been fol
There is a certain dance that occurs every few months in Atlanta’s Chinese restaurant community. The formula is simple: Well regarded chef shows up; foodies flock to said location; chef up and leaves soon thereafter; foodies follow. Rinse and repeat. It’s
The menu is definitely Cantonese style foods. There are squid, seafood, fresh seafood from the tanks of fresh seafood along the back wall, there are clay pot dishes, there are hot pot dishes, there are congee rice soup dishes, and more. The menu has tripe and duck tongue dishes, which I would not choose, but I know that many of my older relatives really enjoy Cantonese style slow cooked clay pot tripe.
Late to the game but nevertheless… I wasn't really planning on writing about BoBo - every single person in Atlanta has been to it and written about it. It's still my favorite haunt for over two years now. I've been going a lot more lately especially for late night dining, and, before things get shaken up a bit once more , I thought I'd give you a glimpse of what I've been eating here when most everyone is asleep. BoBo's chef is one of the most pedigreed Chinese chefs in the city. He's been around for decades and headed the kitchen of one of the first Chinese restaurants in Atlanta. His famous work was seen at Wan Lai and after leaving there, moved to take up residence at BoBo. That's partly why I also never wrote about this place; it's because the food was exactly the same as Wan Lai. His signature dishes remain the same, too. I absolutely love his Crispy Fried Chicken. Garlicky, crispy, tasty. The dry-fried Beef Chow Fun is smoky with a tiny hint of sweet, it's perfect. The Three Du
I have been stalking the progress of this spot--which was formerly a Korean restaurant--in Pine Tree Plaza every time I visit Chicago Supermarket for Mexican goodies. And it has finally opened. No time to do a full post (this wedding planning business is
Bo Bo GARDEN Asian Cuisine was a recommendation from a friend. Overall we enjoyed the experience. The service was fine.
The food was very good. We started with the Crab Rangoon, Fried Dumplings and Hot & Sour Soup. All were fresh, flavorful and delicious. The Crab Rangoon was different than the version I’m used to, and I loved it. It was a highlight of the meal.
The shrimp friend rice was good. The Sesame Chicken and Salt & Pepper Shrimp were very flavorful and fresh tasting as well. The fresh jalapeños added a nice touch to the shrimp.
Overall is was one of the better Chinese meals I’ve had in Atlanta, and I would definitely go back to explore more of the menu.
First time here after coming back from our long trip. We were definitely hungry. The foods were great but however the seasoning was so darn salty 🧂 😫 on every dishes except for the soup. Will give them another chance next time.
I rarely eat Chinese food, but this is my go to spot when I do. If you dine in, you get the most food with your bucks. We still had leftovers that fit into their to-go box. It was the same amount when we ordered to go so dine in! Orange chicken and fried rice was the best meal of the night.
Absolutely loved the fried chicken and beef fried rice. Both very flavourful and the fried rice can easily feed three people or two hungry hippos. The Malaysian Curry was just ok and it came with a side of rice. The server gave us a plate of orange when we were done. Really liked it here! :)
I had kungpao beef but I don’t see no peanut in it but the menu says contain peanut. I think it’s pretty good but not amazing. I also had mapo tofu, it’s not spicy at all and the meat is very little, mostly tofu and sauce. All in all the food is 3.5 out of 5 in my opinion but I round it up to 4.
This is our go to place for authentic Chinese cuisine. Reasonable price with good service. Chicken is not dry and we love everything we tried here. My faves are sweet and sour pork and fish fillet (salt and pepper). Fried chicken for my 3 kids and roasted duck for my husband. They give complimentary dessert like oranges or fortune cookies 🥠 👍 Oh lastly, it’s clean restroom and what I love d most, it smells good. 🫢🙌
Edit: 5 star to 4. I just noticed that we were charged automatically by 18% tip. This is the first time that had happened. We’re family of 5 and it’s not right they did that w/o informing us.
Our 1st visit was excellent. The salt & pepper squid was so good, best we’ve had for a long time. The seafood tofu was on point. The wonton soup was good. We will definitely return to try other dishes. Good portions, reasonable prices, good service.
Update: Always excellent food, but very busy need to flag down the servers but they are always willing. No complaints. More photos.
Went to Bo Bo based on a “top 10” article I read. It was good but I have been to been Chinese places. With that said, I was expecting a little more variety on the lunch menu than what they had.
Would I go again? Possibly but there’s so much to try on Buford Highway…
Nice hole in the wall authentic Chinese / Cantonese restaurant. Came on a Monday, we received great customer service. Interior was nice and clean with a easy to order menu. We started off with chicken dumplings which were simply okay. And we had the Mongolian chicken and the house special steak. Both dishes were good, but definitely recommend the Mongolian chicken. You get served jasmine tea before your meal, but we requested ours afterwards. They also serve you fresh water in post meal. Overall experience was good, the only downside was the meat was a little undercooked for our liking.
Service is good and knowledgeable.
The food is authentic deliciousness.
We had the fried tofu in spicy sauce, eggplant in garlic sauce and the pork belly stew w mustard greens. Chefs kiss.
Superb Cantonese Cooking with Fast & Friendly Service. Prices are average, but this is some of the best Chinese food you will find in Atlanta or, for that matter, anywhere in the Southern U.S. Have eaten here several times, trying new dishes each time, and have yet to something that I didn’t love.
A lot of options, quite popular with the Asian folks. The beef chow fun is a bit burnt, the lobster is too salty. Everything else is pretty good. The chicken was especially good, very flavorful. And the tiny fishes are a bit under seasoned but I can see it potentially tasting very good, like the pepper salted squid. The first batch of rice was a bit dry. But the second one was good. It’s one of those places where if you’re Chinese and you have relatives coming, this is basically the go to. Every big city have a few places like this
Service was ok and food was nothing more than ordinary Chinese food. I wouldn’t count the food as a “hole in the wall” restaurant but the interior is surprisingly nice. We ordered 4 dishes, but only 3 were pictured since the Peking duck came out towards the end. Vegetables were good and the S&S ribs were great but the noodles were overly greasy.
I enjoyed dinner with family group here. The food is awesome, just right taste, not too salty. Choice of Chicken, Shrimp, Beef , Duck , Pork and Vegetables. Love the Walnut Shrimp, Peking Duck and Mandarin Ribs. And the price is reasonable. Recommended, will dine in here again when we visit Atlanta.
Updated, 5/2020: We ordered take-out during Covid-19. We got the Wonton Soup (shrimp and pork), Malaysian Style Chicken Curry (boneless) with fried buns, and Black Pepper Steak. Everything was just as delicious as when we ate in the restaurant. Everyone working at the restaurant was wearing a mask when my husband went to pick it up. It only took about 20 minutes from the time we ordered to the time it was ready. Still delicious. Still highly recommend.
Original: TL/DR: Get the Malaysian Style Chicken Curry (with half steamed buns and half fried buns) and the Black Pepper Steak.
We were a party of 2 on a Friday night at 8:30 and were seated right away.
We were between ordering the Scallion Chicken and the Malaysian Style Chicken Curry (bone-in) ($13.50). Our waiter recommended ordering the curry. We had the option of getting steamed buns or fried buns. When we couldn’t decide, he offered bringing 3 of each. We got the chicken with the bone in because it was more traditional. However, next time I think we’d get it boneless because it’s easier to eat and we’re lazy. We didn’t know how to eat it, so we looked idiots as I was trying to take the chicken off of the bone with my chopsticks and my husband put the chicken in the steam bun. Luckily, the owner (I think) came over to show us how to do it. He explained that we put the entire piece in our mouth and chew off the meat, then take the bones out. We then dip the buns in the sauce. The chicken was great, the sauce was so delicious, but I’m going to dream about the buns. The fried buns tasted like donuts, they were so sweet and perfect. But we couldn’t have done all 6 fried—that would’ve been too much. The steamed buns were also great and getting 3 of each was the perfect balance.
The Black Pepper Steak ($15.99) was super tasty. It came with onions and peppers. The steak was super tender and tasted like a really great, quality cut of meat.
The service was great, the portions were big (we have leftovers of both), and the food came out so fast! We think we’ve found our new favorite Asian crestaurant on Buford Highway, if not Atlanta.
One of our family favorites! I highly recommend the Spicy Tofu....very addictive! The Pork Chops with Peking Sauce and Beef Stir Fried Rice Noodles (dry) are awesome as well. Menu attached.
Very good Chinese (Cantonese style) tasty eats. Portions are big. A good variety of options on the menu. Service was good as well. We plan to comeback and try the other items.
