The food was excellent, the service was friendly and our server offered to have the tibs prepared with more sauce when we mentioned we didn't like them dry. She was also patient and explained the difference between the regular injera and their more authentic special. I would highly recommend this place. (also is way less crowded than Desta)
It is my favorite Ethiopian restaurant . I recommend this restaurant for everybody who want to try Ethiopia food even for any Ethiopian who want to have the best .All of their foods are the best specially their kitfo , I don't know how they do it ,it tests like back home . I have tried many Ethiopian restaurants after I ate the food I don't fill comfortable in my stomach but Bahel is different that is why it is my favorite.
Every time after the exhausting weekend trip we come here to eat and haven't been disappointed once. Food is delicious and staff is friendly. Prices are also pretty good! Highly recommend!
This has become one of my favorite Ethiopian restaurants in Atlanta. The service has been great, especially when I bring groups by and ask for special accommodations. The food is also very good. My fam especially likes the fosolia and the veggie plate which is sooo good. The meat entrees are also great too. It's hard to go wrong with anything you order here.

We just stopped by for dinner after finding this on google maps by chance - and it was the best choice we ever made! The food was delicious, and the service was amazing. 10/10 would come again. And again.
Definitely give it a try. Iāve been to dozens of Ethiopian places and this is by far in my top three from coast to coast. Will be going back for sure.
Meat had great flavor but was tough, veggies were fantastic, bread was great, Desta was closed for an event. So lucky to find this place across the street!
The food was flavorful and authentic! I highly recommend it!
Excellent food, value for money, wide varieties of veg foods
We were lucky enough to find Bahel on our last evening in Atlanta. The food was delicious, flavorful, authentic (it certainly didn't feel "Americanized") and beautifully presented. The service was excellent, and everyone was welcoming and helpful. It was our first time eating Ethiopian food, so we asked a lot of questions. We will DEFINITELY go back if we're in Atlanta again.
Great food and service! The food tasted fresh and flavorful!
Best Ethiopian restaurant in town! I LOVE their spicy lamb awaze tips (ye beg wot). Huge potions and servers are so kind. Definitely be back.
Best food I've had. The atmosphere was nice since they had traditional decor and the service was really nice. It felt like I was dining in someone's house and getting a home cooked mealš. I really enjoyed the vegetarian combo and the honey wine. It will leave you full and a satisfied.
Great food, seemed authentic.
Good service.
I would recommend the veggie platter if you're having vegetarian. The shiro is amazing too, have it when hot. Beware, the fitfit is spicy and amazing!
I have spent the last 5 years traveling the country in a van, sampling foods as I go. Kitfo is my favorite food. This is my favorite kitfo. My partner and I ate kitfo across the street and were still hungry so we had a second course here. This one demolished the other. We then returned here the following day for another course. I recognize this may sound insane. That's just how much I like kitfo in general and this kitfo in particular. Order the Bahel kitfo, and order it raw. Then message me to tell me you loved it too.
Ordered a few mins away, came in to a nice calm cafe vibe a few people just sippin coffee/tea, relaxed. Got the veggie combo plate which includes side salad and 4 spongy breads. The lady at the counter was nice and accomidating, explained its not much different than Eritrean food ive had before. Me and dad ate for dinner and lunch and the food is GREAT! Reminded me of soul/southern food. Greens, beans, lentils, peas, cabbage. With the spongebreadsquarepants its perfect. Definitely ask for the hot sauce on the side, its like Bufalo but with a spicy ethopian kick, nice. Going back here for sure!
There are tons of reviews from users saying Bahel has the best Ethiopian food they've ever had, and I 100% agree! Hands down the BEST I've ever had, and I've had quite a lot at many different restaurants. As with pretty much every Ethiopian restaurant there are lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Unlike most Ethiopian restaurants I didn't have one or two favorites from the vegetarian combo. Every single thing I ate was equally delicious. That's something that's uncommon at any restaurant. Unbelievable! Stop reading this and order some Bahel right NOW! ššš
I love this place! In my opinion, Bahel is the best ethiopian food in Houston. I have tried all of the other places, and Bahel is still my absolute favorite! I come here every chance I get. Their service for sit-down eating and takeout is awesome. They are so accommodating for large groups, and their food is just the absolute best. My favorites are the veggie sampler and their #3 meat sampler. Their pricing is also so reasonable for Houston restaurants. I truly wish I could eat here every day!
The staff was very nice and the food is great!
I love the little shop in the back too. I was able to pick up some delicious coffee and beautiful coffee pot.
Delicious! The food was very fresh and cooked to order. I believe it's a family owned place and it shows in the TLC they provide. My only complaint would be that they don't have any meat and veggie combo plate for those who want a bit of everything. No matter, the food was amazing. Absolutely worth the drive from Gwinnett!
I have passed Bahel many times going to and from the VA on Clairmont. I have considered stopping many times. Today I did and I am happy I did so. I have never had Ethiopian food before and was anxious to try it. It was, in a word, superb. My server greeted me and brought me some water. I explained to her that I had never had Ethiopian food before. She took the time to explain all the different menu items. I chose the Lamb Tibs (chunks of lamb sauteed with onions and peppers) with awaze sauce ( a spicy tomato and red pepper sauce). It was served on a piece of injera, which is a thin, spongey piece of fermented bread that has a slightly sour aftertaste. She offered me a rice option, but I chose the injera for the authentic way. I also ordered the misir wat (spicy red lentils) as my side. As I waited for my food, I could hear them in the kitchen preparing my food and happily chatting away, in what I assume was probably Oromo. I could also smell my food cooking which always adds to the anticipation. When my food arrived it was hot, fresh and served on a colorful plate. She also brought a ceramic boat containing several rolls of injera. She offered me silverware or explained that she would teach me how eat it in the traditional way. I opted for traditional, so she returned to the kitchen and brought back her own small plate of food. She tore off a piece of the injera, pinched some food, picked it up as she rolled it and ate it. I found it was very easy to do, as the injera stays together, even with sauce on it. My food was spicy, flavorful and it had the right amount of heat. The feeling of the restaurant took me back to some of the street vendors (which is often where you find the best, most authentic food, in my experience) I have eaten at in Mexico and Europe, of course, in a restaurant environment. The Lamb Tibs in awaze were reminiscent of Indian curries like, chetinaad, as far as preparation, but the flavor was totally different. There was a very elegant blend of spices in it that was unlike any other food I have had before. The portion was quite large, so I was able to have some left to take home. After I had eaten, I ordered their coffee. She ground fresh beans, brewed me a small pot of coffee and then served it on a tray with a little sugar bowl, a cup and saucer and a piece of burning incense. I have to say, this wasn't just a meal, it was an experience. While I was eating and having coffee, the stress and noise of the world fell away for a little while. I was priveleged to taste some new foods and learn a small bit about a vibrant culture. I had a fantastic time in this quiet little restaurant. It made me think of the way that food has always been a common experience we share...a very human experience. I'm glad I was able to share that today with the staff at Bahel. I really enjoyed it. Thank you very much.
Loved their vegan sampler! The honey wine and ethiopian coffee with milk were also delicious. Highly recommend to bring your family also healthy vegetarian/vegan dishes.
Service was very friendly. Food was pretty tasty. But honestly the dishes were quite odd compared to every other Ethiopian restaurant Iāve been to and not as flavorful. I also wish they had a combo dish with several meat and vegetable options instead of having to order the vegetables separatedly. Overall a pretty ok experience
The food was amazing! Easily the best Ethiopian food in Atlanta. I grew up eating this cuisine and this restaurant reminded me of my motherās kitchen. The atmosphere inside was well put together as well. Couldnāt recommend this place enough.
First time having Ethiopian food and man. I am sufficiently pleased and satisfied. Ordered the chicken tibs, dereq tibs, shirro, and the vegetarian combo which were so flavorful. When you walk in it feels like an authentic experience with the music playing, great service, and beautiful decorations. Highly recommend you visit for a great meal. Make sure you ask for mitmita and awaze to go along with it for extra flavor.
Bahel is located next to another Ethiopian restaurant and a hookah lounge quietly tucked away in a strip mall.
OMG! The food here is exceptional. I used to have another favorite Ethiopian place (not gonna drop names š) but Bahel totally now holds that title. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was perfect. If you have never tried Bahel, you really need to go!
Heard about this place from an Uber driver and it did not disappoint. I am not by any means an expert when it comes to Ethiopian food, but I've been impressed every time I've dined here.
Small scale Ethiopian spot for a cozy ambiance. We wanted to dine in, but Desta (across street) was carry out only.
THE BAD: The honey wine tasted different. I always consume Ethiopian, but this honey wine was sweet -- it just tasted like it had a veggie taste infused in it. It didn't taste as rich as I've grown accustomed to.
THE GOOD: We ordered for two, & it could've fed 3 or 4. The cabbage, lentils were the best. It came with 3 different cheeses. The Collards we're minced finely, but the flavor was sublime. We even asked for extra injera to take home with us & they obliged. Definitely come back with the kids so they can experience!
Terrific food and fun staff make this a Go To for my Ethiopian fix. Amazing coffee, a unique menu.. I always make time to stop in and enjoy their amazing fare.
Bahel is one of the very few restaurants in Atlanta that we ALWAYS come back to whenever visiting Atlanta. We first started going there over ten years ago, and loving Ethiopian food as we do, weāve tried almost every other Ethiopian restaurant in the city (over twenty-five as of about five years ago). The food here is superbāwith a cook trained in the tradition of the most famous region in Ethiopia, renowned for its āgomen besigaā (collard greens with beef) and for its shiro. Their fried fish smothered with a sort of roux made from shiro, stewed onion, tomatoes and green peppers is an original and must be tasted to be believed.
Finally, if youāre a coffee lover you probably already know that the origin of coffee is Ethiopia. (Even the name ākavaā ā from which the word ācoffeeā is derived is the name of the province in Ethiopia where coffee is first known to have been grown and drunk. At Bahel they still serve coffee Ethiopian style and roasting it from green beans on the spot. The aroma is heavenly, as In sure you can imagine. The way they serve it constitutes an experience you wonāt want to miss. Check out my photos and videos below.
Meanwhile, their tasteful ambience (donāt miss their cozy back room and its special decor, suitable for private parties and small groups) and gracious staff render this a place worth visiting over and over againāwhich we do, and will for years to come.
Please note that the restaurant is now under new management as former owner, Sabele, has retired. One of her longest servers, Winnie, and her husband, Abraham, have retained their dedicated cook, Rosa, and join her in serving some of the best dishes ever! (Same menu, same extraordinary flavors, with maybe even an extra loving touch. Note, also, that they have improved the ambience with some of their own loving additions.
Iām in LOVE š BAHEL is the winner among the cluster of Ethiopian restaurants in the Clairmont area! Just because itās an Ethiopian restaurant doesnāt mea me youāre getting the Proper SPICE and everything NICE! Pictured here is the Lentil Sambusa and the Veggie combo. MY son ordered beef tibs which I didnāt try but he said theyāre good! The tenderness of the Gomen and the crunch of the green salad coupled with good spongy tangy injera is just EVERYTHING!! You will not need to go to another Ethiopian spot after experiencing Bahel
