I went there for both dinner and brunch and was very impressed with both experiences. The snacks before dinner were fantastic (make sure you try the popcorn) and so was my entree - I had the angus strip. It was cooked just right and full of flavor. The ice cream sandwiches for dessert were the perfect way to end the night - ice cream pressed between 2 cookies, it's the best of everything. For brunch, I tried the pancake and it was just as good as the dinner experience. Service was great both times. Highly recommend Cast Iron if you're looking for a nice dinner in a relaxed atmosphere!
So delicious! Dinner, cocktails and brunch are all fantastic, I'll definitely be back. I had the snapper dinner entree and the pancake at brunch and loved them both. Don't miss the the ice cream sandwich for dessert!
I visited Cast Iron on a Friday evening expecting it to be busy, and it was, so my husband, his mother and I sat at the bar. I couldn't decide on a draught beer (they actually had some of my all-time favorites from Prairie, Wicked Weed and Creature Comforts) so the bartender recommended I try the "No Diablo" cocktail - ancho pepper infused tequila with grapefruit soda - SO GOOD! It was also surprisingly quick for how busy it was that night.
The bartender told us it might be a while on food and suggested a quick appetizer - the Hot and Sour chips. They were a perfect snack to go with our first drinks.
My husband got the Rye Pasta, which the bartender recommended he pair with a nice red wine that was perfect. My mother-in-law and I tried orange wine for the first time and were pleasantly surprised, as I thought it would be too sweet for my palate. She and I also shared the burger, which was absolutely delicious!
We all felt really comfortable in the classic but laid back atmosphere. I recommend sitting at the bar if Michelle is there! We will definitely be back!!
Don't trust Cgoverk's review, he ordered his burger well done... Cast Iron is a much needed addition to this side of N. Highland. After being there twice (in two days), I've tried a decent proportion of the food and drink menu and also had the opportunity to chat with the staff.
I'll start with the drinks. The beer menu is just long enough and earns an A+ on both variety and quality. The bar is loaded with ingredients I've never heard of - liquors, liqueurs, and mixers. I took the liberty of sampling many of them and was impressed by the knowledge and well-roundedness of the bar's curators. Artichoke liqueur to replace campari, a coconut milk rendition of eggnog, and a spirit distilled from a pine tree can all be found on the cocktail menu depending on the evening. I should mention that all the cocktails are $8 and all beers (which come from all over the country and many of which you haven't heard of) are $5-$7.
The food is excellent. With a capital H, I Hate a menu with too many options. Please. They can't all be good. Get rid of the fat and give me only the best options. The menu here gives you 6 options to choose from and you can't go wrong. Night one I had the monkfish (if you've never had it, it's a meaty/not flaky fish) served with a type of tomato ragu and, best of all, a peanut rice pudding. To die for, until I tried the pork shoulder that just melts in your mouth. I highly recommend this. Between the first and second night, we had other delicious offerings (the shrimp/cold noodle bowl, mushroom broth, and burger salad side) and all were good, but I must point out two as the blue ribbon and first runner up: the duck chips. If you order nothing else, get these. And don't share them with your dining partner. DON'T SHARE. First runner up goes to the "bunch of mushrooms". You won't find these varieties at Publix. This appetizer is both unique and outstanding in flavor.
A few words on the atmosphere and staff. Their slogan, which reads "nothing too fancy" rings true in the menu, prices, and attitudes, and the restaurant is cozy and welcoming. Think candlelight, wooden accents, low lighting, nice music (not too loud! Thank you!)...I'm so happy that this restaurant has moved onto our block and I can't wait for them to start serving brunch next week!
Amazing food, amazing service! Casual laid-back atmosphere but still ate like a queen. Going back tomorrow morning for brunch!!
Cozy, trendy spot. They have both a reservations area and a walk in area. Food is delicious and locally sourced. Good views and nice area. Outdoor seating available.
I was surprised at how good the food was. At first glance the place appeared a bit on the empty side for a Friday night service. Worth checking out.
Absolutely loved the ambiance! I had the spring chicken with potatoes, and it was delicious!! The servers were very friendly yet professional!
Nice easy going place. Huge bar. Well thought out food, but not overly expensive. Cocktails are a steal.
Excellent Sunday brunch spot. Attentive, friendly staff. Beautifully prepared delicious food. #BottomlessMimosas
