Great BBQ from a food truck. They have mostly outdoor dining and where you get your drinks (separate building) a small area for indoor dining. Got the two meat plates, one with brisket and turkey and the 2nd one with sausage and brisket. You get to select 2 sides and each plate comes with bread, onions, and pickles. Each table has tasty BBQ sauce bottles and napkins. The area outside has heaters for when it cold and fans when it is hot. The background music they played is progressive. Meats and sides were excellent and very much enjoyed eating here.
Good BBQ, I enjoyed a 3 meat plate with 2 sides. I'd have to say my favourite was the Turkey and the mac-n-cheese but it was all very tasty. Plenty of food, I didn't go hungry.
When I visited it wasn't too busy but it was lightly raining and I believe it can get very busy in good weather.
Some of the best barbecue I've ever had. I had the pulled lamb, pork ribs, brisket, sausage, jalapeño cheese grits, beet salad and lemon poppyseed slaw. All of the meats were exceptional, pulled lamb is a bit unique and I'm so glad that I got it. It's honestly really hard to say which meats I liked best because they were all great.
The cheddar jalapeño grits were exceptionally good, one of the best bbq sides I've ever had. The beets were pretty good and the coleslaw was alright, I would try something different next time.
This was a pleasant surprise! All of the food was good. We arrived at about 11:20am on a Sunday. It's kind of a food truck where you order, they give you a puck and then they buzz it when your food is ready. No long line due to this. We got our food 5 minutes after ordering.
We had a couple of their 3meat plates and some tacos. Brisket=😋 Pork ribs=😋 Turkey=juicy and delicious, Lamb=ok, Beans side=excellent, better than Franklins, Mac and cheese side= yummy.....but the best thing we had their was the Beef Cheek Tacos, highley recommended!
They are flanked by a place called Saddle Up and seem to share seating and parking. Saddle Up serves every type of drink you may need making it convenient because Micklethwait's only had water.
Glad I came across them on a Google search and a few reviews were enough for me to head their way.
Great ambiance for a casual hangout and delicious BBQ 😋 I got brisket and sausage to go. I stopped by around 3 pm on a week day it was over 100 degrees outside 🥵. The gentleman taking my order suggested I wait inside the air conditioned building on the property and he brought my order to me packaged and ready to go with a small sample bite (really nice gesture).
The building is a small cafe/ store front with a selection of local beer, coffee, some baked goods, and the ice cream they make. I got some cold brew iced coffee and ice cream (delicious and not too sweet)
We'd heard his bbq is considered to be some of the best in Austin, and it didn't disappoint. We arrived at around 1, and several items were already sold out. It took 15-20 minutes to get to the ordering window. Service was friendly, and food took about 40 minutes to come out, which was expected given the crowd. You can get a drink or snack at Saddle Up next door while you wait. The food was delicious. The only downside of visiting in summer is the heat. This place is outdoor only. They do have some shade covers and misting fans, but it was still steaming hot, as to be expected this time of year.
Get the beef ribs and the jalapeño grits, they are amazing! Also pictured: three meat plate and two sides - brisket (yummy), pork ribs (okay), pork shoulder with chimichurri (yum!), jalapeno grits (amazing!), and beets (good but not the best).
Epic Brisket! Has to be some of the best in Texas. Ribs as well. We enjoyed the pulled lamb and some of the creative sides. A must stop on any bbq tour.
If you were deciding between waiting in line for Franklin or trying out Terry’s, don't. Go here. The special taco was unreal and the meat was so tender and amazing. The jalapeño grits and beet salad was terrific and the banana pudding was a perfect ending. The wait was almost nonexistent even though it might be better than Franklin just next door. Maybe the best barbecue, hands down.
There's a small parking lot. The line is shorter than Franklin's. I recommend meat by the pound rather than the three meat plate. I recommend two pounds two men with appetites. A bar next door serves beer and sodas and desserts. I got there at 11:00 on a Saturday, waited in line for about thirty minutes, got my food a little before noon.
Best BBQ of our trip to Austin. Had Micklethwait recommended to us from several people. Arrived at noon to a line that took about 20 min. Even before we got our food, the lady taking our order was the one of the nicest staff we met on our trip.
Food was amazing, for mains we had the brisket, pork ribs and pulled lamb. They were each so good that I can't even rank them.
For sides we had the beet salad, mac and cheese and beans. Again, they were all so good that I can't even judge which was best.
Two meat plates (with two sides) were $17. Meat was also sold by the pound (I heard there may be some sort of family deal that isn't listed, so ask them if you are there with a big family (5) ).
There is another building on site that you can buy drinks at. They had sweet tea and also a hibiscus mint tea (free refills offered).
We will definitely be back when in town and can highly recommend this place.
Extraordinary BBQ (especially the brisket) experience. Folks, this place is truly excellent and it's not crowded!! The brisket was moist, but with great texture and smoke flavor - tasty salt and pepper bark - generous portion on the BBQ sandwich. The sides were interesting, I went with the cheesy grits and I'm glad I did - not as overpowering as mac&cheese, but still very much *comfort* food. Solid homemade tomato-based sauce, comfortable picnic table/shade tree vibe. This place is a wonderful option for folks looking to experience top notch Central Texas BBQ
Wow! I loved the barbecue and the vibe here. All we had was super tasty. And I finally managed to get a Frito pie!
I only tried 3 bbq places during my stay in Austin, but this was absolutely the best.
The line on Easter Sunday wasn’t too bad.
Long wait in line but the food was awesome. That beef rib is like nothing you've ever seen before. The jalapeno cheddar grits are really good as well.
I think the barbecue is much better than Franklin's. And I dig sitting outside
In town for a wedding from New Yok (I know i know Booooo) not those New Yorkers. We love BBq and can't get the good stuff up there. Been to 3 different places so far and by far they take the cake here. Brisket was unbelievable. Frito pie is genius and the Brisket burger had the wife praising it. She is a new England Irish girl so that means a lot. Thank you so much for great atmosphere, amazing BBq and good beer on a 102 degree day.
Enjoyed the day, sitting outside for lunch. Greeted by nice folks.
Had pulled pork, brisket, beans and country potato salad. Pulled pork was super - moist and smoky. Brisket was cooked beautifully, would like to have had a more smoky flavor on that. Potato salad was really good. Interesting recipe. Husband said the beans were good also.
Very nice guy in the little house with the drinks.
It was a good day and we would go back. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
(Would rate 4.3)
Legit BBQ. Some of the best BBQ in Austin and not over hyped like some others. Line was reasonable and moved quickly. Friendly staff taking our order and short wait to get our food. The parking lot is small so you may have to park down the street.
Micklethwait BBQ has been on my list for a long time. It shouldn’t have waited as long as I did! The food is great. Get the pork ribs and if you are brave, get a massive beef rib! The sides are great as well. Get your drinks at Saddle Up next door. Delicious BBQ here.
I came here to visit for a couple of days and I had to go here twice! The woman who took the orders was extremely kind and patient. I really like their outdoor seating and the ambience they have created. The brisket was to die for! I also really loved the jalapeño cheddar grits. We also tried the pulled lamb, and that was definitely something unique to some of the other barbecue places we went to. I brought some brisket home to San Francisco and it was equally delicious as eating it fresh! If you don’t want to wait in the long lines this is DEFINITELY worth a try!
