We always make a point to stop at Phil's for a burger when we are in town. They have a large selection of burgers and are happy to swap out a beef patty for turkey. The burgers are never dry when cooked well done. The bun on the Travis Heights burger was a bit sweet which balanced out the savory flavors of the mushrooms and onions well. I appreciate being able to order half regular fries and half sweet potatoes for no extra cost. The batter on the onion rings was delicious. Until next time!
My son and I stopped here after I PICKED UP MY RETIREMENT ID CARD at Camp Mabry!!! Whoo-hoo!! This place was recommended by the NCO that processed us. Not a bad recommendation! We loved it. The buns are super delicious and filling. I have to do a separate review for Amy's Ice Cream parlor although they are connected by a door! Try it out... you'll love it
In from Houston wanted Ice cream & burger. We hit the jackpot! This small old service station is one of the unique places that makes Austin, Austin.
The burgers are all homemade with unique Austin names with a wide variety of toppings. Any burger can be made to a mini burger, you can try several of the unique burgers with fries. They have regular and sweet potato fries. They also serve beer. The dining area is actually the garage area. The bathrooms still have the “bathroom service lights” from the original station. Small dining area about 10 booths. There is a door that connects to the Amy’s Ice cream next door. Phil & Amy did great with this place ! The outside shared area has a great playground for the kids with patio and sitting area to sit and enjoy a burger , drink and ice cream in a great little neighborhood of Austin. Any place that can put an egg on my burger automatically deserves a 5 star from me! Their burgers were so good and a pretty good size considering the price! They're put on these delicious sourdough buns, and the patties are not too thick, which I really appreciate (I dislike thick patties very much!) The service was very top-notch as well! Literally, the only complaint I had was that their drink cups were a bit small, so we had to refill them more frequently. But seriously, who cares when the food is so delicious! Thank you, everyone at Phil's, for a satisfyingly tasty meal!
$12 for genuinely grilled chicken sandwich (really good flavor) and so many fries. $5 independence on tap small plastic cup. Counter service then eat in or out. In is lacking in any atmosphere and out is ridden with wind and kids because of the playground next door.
You must come here! The onion rings are thin and well seasoned. The BLT had bacon exploding out of it and tons of fresh vegetables. The bread was toasted, with a wonderful buttery flavor--and I found the butter ended up on my hands! The cheeseburger was large with a soft bun, served with the cheese nicely melted. Something that was a nice surprise is that they serve Maine Root Soda here, which is a terrific change from the mainstream.
It has been a very long time since I enjoyed a burger this good! It was made exactly as ordered! It was juicy, flavorful and delicious! I recommend The onion rings also; cooked to perfection! I cannot speak to atmosphere because I ordered online and enjoyed the experience at home.

Don’t ya hate it when you’re at the restaurant, see a few items you like, and can’t decide which to ultimately go with? Me too. At Phil's Icehouse, you don’t have to worry about that if you are unsure as to which hamburger you want to order as they have a Mini Burger Sampler Basket which comes with 3 slider-sized burgers and a side of regular and/or sweet potato fries for $10.45. The 3 flavors I got were:
- The “78704”: burger topped with Monterey Jack cheese, jalapeños, onions, avocado, and chipotle mayo
- The Rosedale Burger: cheddar mesquite burger topped with onions, pickles, cheddar cheese, and sweet mesquite BBQ sauce
- The Crestview Burger: a chili cheeseburger topped with onions and mustard
That’s probably the 3 burgers I would suggest to anyone because they’re all different in their main flavor (spicy/refreshing vs. sweet/tangy vs. rich/savory) and they're delicious. The sourdough buns are amazing as well as they’re very soft. Great price and the food came out fast as well. No complaints whatsoever. I give them a 4.5/5 for being amazing, y’all gotta add this spot to your list!
Getting to Phil’s Ice House was a happy accident. The burgers were so tasty! I had the 78704. The buns were nicely toasted, the burger was juicy and very flavorful. The sweet potato fries were outstanding, as were the regular fries. No need to choose one over the over as they offer half regular fries and half sweet potato fries. Also, the Maine Root beverages were fantastic! I think my fave was the prickly pear with lemonade.
We love coming here! Personally this is the best burger spot in Austin.

Stopped by for a to-go order fully expecting a regular burger, but it was so much better than that. Buns were toasted and soft; patties were flavorful and juicy; fries were salty and crispy. Great stuff
Always a great place to let the kiddo play while mom and dad get a beer on happy hour. Only complaint really is food prices. You don't really get much for the price so we'll often just get drinks while our son plays then go eat somewhere else
Friendly workers and quick service. First time trying this restaurant and food was delicious. Highly recommend the Violet Crown burger, it was delicious with the mixed sweet potato and regular fries. The environment is very relaxed, kids get to be at the playground, and is pet friendly.
Frito Pie burger was amazing! Local hand crafted soft drinks, alcohol served, Amy’s ice cream connected with it for those hot days. Definitely a must if you’re looking for a local place to go to!

Nice little location friendly staff and the burger was great a bit messy and greasy but the bun was tasty and the burger seasoned well. Wasn’t a big fan of the sweet potato fries. Overall good burger spot and will come back again.

Wow! Speechless.... Great burger with real handmade patties and fresh French fries and sweet potato fries and homemade sourdough bread, I'm in heaven!! I was coming to eat ice cream at Amy's and discovered this hidden gem next door!!!! Love it!!!
