This place is great. The people are friendly, atmosphere comfortable, and cocktails are designed by experts. No joke! Enjoy the layer of flavors they worked so hard to achieve. If you love an Old Fashioned these are the best!
Fun and classy joint on the edge of dirty 6th without the bullshit. Good beer. Good drinks and they are booking the best local bands. Awesome spot for music. And they have a good food truck in the back. Must go
This place is at the very end of 6th so it's easy to miss. However, it's a great departure from "dirty"...meaning they have classic cocktails and you can take a date there without looking like a douche. Also, they have drink specials for the ladies and happy hour which lasts longer than the rest of the bars in that area.
I came to The Gatsby after forgetting to make a reservation for Midnight Cowboy and finding that the vacancy light was not illuminated. The 1920's/speakeasy decor of this bar is a welcome break from the rest of Dirty Sixth and could easily be located amongst more 'prestigious' venues further downtown. Their backyard is huge and will be great for holding events and enjoying days with nice weather.
We opted to sit at the bar since there were openings and had a great time chatting with all of the bartenders throughout the night. While they offer the usual selection of beers, wines, and liquors, their cocktail menu is their claim to fame. If you don't see anything on the menu that piques your interest, don't hesitate to talk with the bartender to have a custom drink made to fulfill your desires. Although the prices are a little more expensive than the surrounding Sixth Street, it's definitely worth the cost for the quality drinks and more chill atmosphere. They also use TabbedOut, which makes managing your tab extremely easy.
This might just be one of my new fav spots on the outskirts of Dirty. I'm so happy that I had such a different experience than my first time here.
Ended up coming in to say hi to a friend and staying for an impromptu par-tay! They had a live DJ rocking some mad crazy beats! I had a group of friends who came over from Easy Tiger and were just going to stay for a drink, but we ended up turning the place into a house party!
The bartenders here are fantastic and are generous with their pours! Mitch & Jordan did a great job handling the craziness. Also, you can't beat the drink pricing here either. Some friends who were in the group visiting from NYC & LA could not believe how cheap drinks in Austin are comparatively, but they especially marveled here.
Will be back when in the vicinity to enjoy the patio once the heat/humidity die down.
Really nice place! The bartenders were extremely nice, the establishment was clean and didn't smell beer soaked like other places we visited. Next time in Austin we will definitely be back!
The name alone is what drew us in. After looking at the website, we went on Tuesday for stand-up. The local comedians were hilarious and engaged with the audience. Scott was bartending and was attentive to our needs, gave us great tips on local places to visit, and poured great drinks.
Loved the bar staff there, the drinks were strong how I like and the environment was pretty chill. The location was pretty accessible. If you're from Austin, you know how frustrating 6th is. It's at the beginning and tucked away.
The Gatsby is a welcome reprieve from the other bars on Dirty 6th. The decor and ambiance is spot on. The inside bar is a little small, but the patio is great! It has numerous tables and a few outdoor games to enjoy. It is far from the downtown bars we've come to expect on this part of 6th street.
The drinks are awesome, the bartenders actually grind there ingredients, fresh grapefruit, oranges, mint, and limes into the drinks, a rare find on 6th street. Walking in makes you feel like you have went into a by gone era. The decor of the building is of the 1920s with a modern flare to it. The outdoor patio is huge and spacious with some outdoor games and an outdoor bar. Many times this bar has an outside DJ spinning, and they have different food trucks on Sundays. If you haven't checked out this pear on 6th street, u should def check it out! Right across from EZ Tiger!
The Gatsby is a new 20's inspired bar on East 6th that is worth a visit! This place is definitely a new downtown gem. With a large patio, eclectic decor, and live jazz music you will go back in time when you step through the doors. They even have special cocktails of the day for the indecisive folks (like me). I tried the habanero champagne and I would go back just for this drink alone!
This place was great. We were in Austin for only 4 nights, but we stopped by this one for two of them. Its not loud and crazy like the rest of 6th St. Its definitely classier. The drinks are more advanced than just a beer, or a rum and coke. Though I did order an Aviation, and whatever they brought me was about as far from an Aviation as you could get haha. It was still a great drink. I don't blame them though, thats an old school drink and I rarely find anyone who knows what it is. I would start and/or end your night here if your looking to get crazy. Have a few decent drinks before youre to drunk to taste them haha. Theyve got a modern 1920s feel, and they play old silent movies on some of the TVs to add to it. Whether or not you're a fan of Gatsby I'd go. But if you are a fan (of the book movie or both) its a must.
YAY, I am so excited that the Gatsby is open again after a massive renovation. I had enjoyed this place before they closed and loved the very creative drink selection they have. The staff is fanatic and the vibe is very relaxed.
I really like this place. The vibe is chill, the bartenders rock, the music is awesome. Huge outdoor stage. As a musician I've also enjoyed playing here.
You walk into this bar with a greeter that opens the door for you. Drinks are on point. These guys have a staff that makes this place one of my favorite spots to go have a good Manhattan.
