**Sangam Restaurant in Austin: A Flavorful Delight**
I recently dined at Sangam Restaurant and was impressed by several aspects of my experience. Firstly, their precision in delivering dishes "on point" and "on time" was commendable, ensuring a seamless dining experience. The spice levels in their dishes were perfectly balanced, adding depth and flavor without overwhelming the palate.
However, while the promise of serving meals on banana leaves intrigued me, I was slightly disappointed as only one banana leaf was provided underneath the dish, contrary to the expectations set.
Despite this minor setback, Sangam Restaurant's culinary offerings are undoubtedly a treat for the taste buds. The impeccable timing and flavor precision make it a spot worth visiting for those seeking authentic and delicious Indian cuisine in Austin.
Well leaving all it aside !!! We have been there at 2:30 (about to close at 3 pm ) with group of our people with 15 count. But, there was a beautiful lady over there name "Anu" who served with utmost ease. No matter how long we ordered and ate that delicious food, she was very patient and served us with pretty smile.
Based on the recommendation received, we visited Sangam Chettinad Indian Cuisine for lunch. The restaurant was busy but we got seated right the way; our waiter was courteous and did a good job explaining the items and answering questions. We decided to try Chicken Chettinad curry, Butter Masala chicken, Boneless chicken Biryani and an order of Mysore Masala Dosa to share. While the chicken Chettinad and chicken biryani were good, I want to highlight Butter Masala chicken and Mysole Masala Dosa; I have previously tried Butter Masala in many different places, the one from Sangam Chettinad is probably the one that impressed me the most. Yes, I am not an Indian Cuisine expert, but purely from a taste point of view, I really enjoyed the dish very much. Mysole Masala Dosa was also pretty darn good: from potato filling inside to 4 types of sauces that came with it, we truly enjoyed it. Very good experience overall.
Went for our first time and were immediately greeted and sat in a timely manner. All the staff was beyond friendly and our waiter Arjun was extremely helpful and knowledgeable when we told him we needed help ordering since we had no idea what we were doing. He suggested entrees appetizers sides and even talked us into dessert, definitely up sold the whole ordeal he did an amazing job. The food tasted amazing and authentic and came out fast and hot. Everyone had a smiling face on them it was a lovely experience.
Good spot for Indian food. This place can get really crowded over weekends so expect long wait times but they have a good notification process where you give your number and get notified when the table is available.
The food is good - we specifically had the lunch Thali, which was really good. You get good quantity and it is tasty. Service is quick as well.
Visited this on a weekend and it was really busy and crowded!
The restrooms need better maintenance!
Great food, good location. We ordered the chicken, biryani, and the potato dosa. The table presentation was very neat.
One of the only things I didn’t enjoy as much, was our server. They didn’t seem very knowledgeable about the menu, and they made really long awkward pauses when I asked about certain plates on the menu. It was my first time eating here, and I was very unfamiliar with the menu, it’s very long and extensive. I had a bunch of questions about what was good, what was the most traditional plate, what was spicy, and the server really didn’t know anything.
They had this cute little robot/server that came from the kitchen to the counter, delivering food, super nice that they have this here. The art on the walls in the music were very nice and relaxing, the space is big so it’s great for big parties. Definitely coming back, I really enjoyed the food here.
Overall: Considered as the best Indian restaurant in Austin for a few years now!
1. Food - Authentic South Indian
2. Service - Always been good, even during crowded days
3. Cost - Pretty decent for the quantity and taste
4. Ambience - Average, just a basic Indian restaurant. Nothing fancy!
5. Menu suggestion - Try the damn good Veg or Non-Veg thalli’s on weekends. Plenty of options for vegetarians as well.
Tried this restaurant for the very first time during the weekend on a Saturday. I had heard that they usually have a long wait. However, we got a table very quickly for a party of 5 and a toddler. The service is also very quick. During my visit, we tried multiple dishes here. I would recommend the Idli, idiyappam combo with mutton curry and the kothu parotta. I wasn't a big fan of the mutton biryani, but it was decent. The place was pretty packed, but the servers were very efficient. Quick note: They serve hard drinks as well and have karaoke nights and ladies' nights on Thursday. Overall, I would definitely go here again, especially to try out their special thali's.
Came Wednesday night for dinner at 7:00pm and the restaurant was packed! We almost had to wait for a seat, and this place is huge. There were families, people eating alone, and couples on dates. Once you step out the car, you can smell the spices in the parking lot. We sat down and got our plates, cups, utensils and water. We ordered samosas to share, chicken tikka masala, chicken butter masala, and lamb briyani. The samosas (3) came out and we’re big, and filled with delicious potato with two dipping sauces. They were so good, we ordered another one to take home. The butter chicken and tikka masala was really flavorful… but the best thing was the NAAN. It was fluffy, garlicky, butter…. The NAAN completed the curry dishes, the rice was also very fluffy and cooked well. The lamb biryani had a lot of meat, I personally like it way spicier though, but the yogurt sauce was good. This restaurant gets packed and I can see why, the food is delicious and it’s not too expensive. Definitely check this place out!
An Indian restaurant that dominantly serves South Indian food and within that they specialize in Chettinad cuisine. This is a very nice space though the service can be a bit desultory but the food is very good. The ghee roast dosa was slightly disappointing in the lack of ghee flavor but the rest of the food was very good. Chutneys were fresh and had good flavor, sambar was quite good and the pongal and wada was especially good. The idlies were a bit bland and gummy, but they could just have been having an off day. A perfect end was a filter coffee!
Order only Chettinad dishes, they are good. Others are avg.
we had a south style non-veg thali, pepper shrimp and parotta with veg kurma.
The shrimp were awesome, spicy and cooked perfectly.
The parotta was also very good, crispy soft and layered.
The veg kurma was so so.
The thali was mix experience. I liked the way it came. Its been a while since I had thali in a restaurant and wanted to taste all the variety of dishes that come in a thali.
So the best part of thali was surprisingly the raas-malai, initially I thought it was payassam, who would guess a raasmalai in south indian thali. Anyways it was really tasty.
The other two items I liked were the chicken curry and rice. They said it was madras style curry. The other items in the thali were avg. chicken appetizer was fried chicken like a pakoda, coated with some flour base, it was cold and soggy. Bread option was naan or chappti. I had naan which was ok, they should have parotta or appam option for South Indian thali.
Other veg dishes were dry carrot subji, dal fry, sambar and rasam. All avg.
Overall a good experience if you order the right thing.
AMAZING. simply put, best Indian I've had in Austin. The Chetinad Masala was incredible thanks to our waiter Baddam!!! I asked for a very spicy dish and got it with the most tender pieces of lamb - Baddam hooked it up! My friend is gluten free and they have a menu if you are too - the dosa was so much fun and came with the best sauces. Whatever the red one was Baddam gave me some to go. Just SWOON!
Thanks Baddam and the whole crew I can't wait to try to curry crab next and sweat my face off!
I have been ordering food from this place online which I enjoyed a lot, now I got a chance to enjoy their hospitality. Taste here is really consistent. Certainly this is the only place I endorse in Austin for Indian food. All other places I tasted were not really consistent.
This place was really crowded when I visited(Friday 8 pm).
Tried some tiffins, set dosa with chicken curry, vada and kuzhi paniyaram.
Set dosa was good and chicken curry was really rich in falvour. KP was steamed with ghee which was so pronounced.
Filter coffe was really good and must after a good food.
All the chutneys were okay, less spicy.
Staff was very humble and with good knowledge on food.
Dining at Sangam Chettinad was more than just a meal; it was a captivating journey into Indian cuisine, with our remarkable waiter, Baddam, as our guide. His insightful recommendations introduced us to dishes that were both delicious and rich in history. Baddam's knowledge about the origins of the dishes and their traditional significance during Ramadan added depth to our experience, turning dinner into a learning opportunity. His warm and attentive service further enhanced our evening, making it genuinely memorable. We're looking forward to revisiting Sangam Chettinad and can't thank Baddam and the team enough for their exceptional service. A solid 10/10 for both food and hospitality.
Traveled from Houston for family reasons and this place was highly recommended. So glad we came. Lots of different Tamil based dishes to choose from. The Dosa was amazing, biryani super tasty, dal fry so comforting. Was not a fan of the chicken 65 however. Would love to go back to try other dishes.
Food was very flavorful and fresh.
Ordered 2 dishes - SANGAM SPL MUTTON CHOPS MASALA, KARAIKUDI NATTU KOZHI MASALA(COUNTRY CHICKEN SEMI GRAVY).
Mango lassi was also good in taste.
Food was good. We liked the dosa. And naan was okay. But mutton curry sauce was not tasty.
