Great pizza and great people!! Justin has been perfecting the pizza art for a long time and it shows!
Bravo!
When a kid eats pizza crust without cheese or ranch, you know it's got to be good crust!
This crust is so light, crisp, full of perfect bubbles and chewy attaining a perfect crust that is so wonderful and tasty you could eat this alone! Service was polite and helpful with our choices and our pizza was cooked pretty quickly and we all loved the crust.
As a pizza connoisseur these are my opinions of this establishment, ingredients and execution at an attempt of a perfect pizza.
Cheese rating: 6 out of 10
Nothing special and a little better than your average commercial cheese, but nothing that stands out.
Crust rating: 10 out of 10
They use 00 Caputo flour and cook it perfectly as well as ferment the dough as described on their wall. Flavor cannot be rushed and they know this. Man this crust is good! Working with 00 flour is both a science and requires skill as well as higher temperatures for cooking it properly.
Sauce rating: 3 out of 10
Bright and acidic like it should be, however missing any characteristics that would make it stand out and was super bland. I also tried some on the side thinking that would help and it was like pureed tomatoes with a pinch of salt and that's it. The amount of sauce was minimal on the pizza we ate creating a less than desirable ratio of sauce to dough, cheese, and toppings. When we go back I'll request extra sauce and see if that helps.
Toppings rating: 7 out of 10
The toppings are of better quality than typical commercial grade ingredients but the caramelization that comes from high heat cooking was uneven and even undercooked in some areas.
Other notes:
I give this place a solid 3.75 out of 5 so I'll round it up to a 4 for Google's 5 star rating system. This place has a lot of potential and know how to make a crust that stands out from the rest. The cooking execution could be improved for more even cooking of toppings with proper caramelization of the toppings but that sauce, please try some different recipes as it's one of the blandest executions I've eaten in a long while. If the sauce changes I may find myself eating here regularly.
I love this place. Listen, I am a Brooklyn girl and this is GREAT. This is not NY style Sicilian - its Roman street pizza. Its airy with a little crisp and the flavors are spectacular.
We had a piece of cheesecake which was homemade. It was light and not over bearing as a piece of cheesecake can be.
You can buy by the slice or buy a whole pizza. We truly loved it and will definitely be back.
The pizza was made to order and fresh. Has an east coast feel - art on the wall ( almost graffiti like), Yankees game playing and great conversation. Its very simple, nothing fancy. Again, made me feel like I was in a local Brooklyn pizza shop - I felt very at home.
I grew up in the Philadelphia area and this pizza reminds me of tomato pie we used to be able to get back there when I was young. You can eat it cold, hot out of the oven, or reheated and it's good all three ways. The crust is crisp and airy with great flavor. The tomatoes and mozzarella taste fresh and savory. Their location is somewhat hidden, so I'll be spreading the word. I hope they get noticed by a lot of patrons so they can stick around for a long time. Highly recommend.
Put it simply, this is a different style. I’ve tried a lot of different types of pizza and this is a first for me. I have to say I really enjoyed it. Its like they put pizza toppings on some amazing fresh out of the oven bread. It’s very light and airy (you won’t feel stuffed with cheap cheese and dough). Pizza Romana is ahead of the curve for the west valley. Don’t come here expecting a barro’s or domino’s. It’s really cool to try something new and delicious. Excellent customer service as well.
The pizza here was outstanding. We tried the Americana, Picante, and Prosciutto E Funghi. They were all good but the Prosciutto one was absolutely amazing. We ordered an extra one after eating because it was so good. The owners were super friendly and I'm so excited to have find this!
Piazza Romana is Phoenix’s best kept secret for pizza. When it’s fresh out of their oven, there isn’t a better pizza out there. Their style of pizza is so unique and special - they literally take days to perfect their dough before turning it into their amazing chewy, light, crispy crust. It is SO delicious!!! Their new NY style pizza is incredible too. Tell your friends and family - this is the kind of place that ought to have a line out the door, it’s so good! It’s right by the Harkins theater in Avondale so it’s convenient for a pizza/movie date, or to grab a slice before shopping at Costco with the kids like we did today.
Great addition to the La Piazza Family! Crust is light and fluffy on the inside, crunchy on the bottom and edges. I had the Americana and the New Yawka... both delicious pies!
Outrageously delicious pizza - you have to try this. One of the best crusts around. Don't let the slice shop appearance fool you, the pizza is amazing. Would highly recommend (and wish we had one on the east side of town as well!)
Excellent pizza! Crust is different from deep dish pizza. It is light and not doughy. Crispy with a nice chew! Square not round, but totally awesome! Staff was very friendly and courteous and super fast!
This place has some of the best pizza around here. This was my first time and definitely well be back. Let me tell you it is hard to impress me with pizza because I grew up in Chicago we're we take pizza seriously. Most of the place out here in AZ have some thing they call pizza but it is not. Piazza Romana knows what pizza is and has impressed this Chicago native. If you're in the area and want real pizza you need to get a slice from pizza roman.
My first time trying this pizza. This is excellent pizza. It is NOT the typical round pizza, it is Roman style. The dough is light and not heavy. The flavor is very good. The crust is delicious. Don't come here looking for your everyday same ol same ol pizza. Come here looking for real pizza. How pizza should be. Love it.
Piazza Romana is owned by the same family that brought La Piazza al forno to my life.... so yeah... we loved it! I have never had this style of pizza before and honestly it was amazing. So light and crispy with a little char on the edges as all good pizza should have. For sure give it a try...it's worth the drive.
This place is awesome! It's clean the pizza is amazing!! We had complicated orders with very picky people and we were accommodated. The owner is a very cool dude. I feel like I want him on my side in a bar fight. Very passionate about his product and it shows in the quality! I would recommend this place to all my friends and family! I will be back!
Straight up a genuine good pizza spot. Family owned, fresh ingredients, owners are good humble people. The atmosphere along with the way they interact and treat their customers is warming.
We had to try. It’s Justin’s similar pizza as his other locations. It was delicious. We had the gladiator and Americana with Capolla wine and Birra Moretti. This location is more of an order and go since it’s by the theaters. But we did have their. We also loved that the little boy was taking orders while the mom handle kitchen. I live that when families come together to run a business. Keep up the good work Justin. 👏🏼
Gotta love this crust, yum yum. The owner is a pizza guru. Top shelf ingredients. Some of the best combinations. Try this place. Ask about the crust. Eat in, eat outside, take it home, it doesn't matter where you enjoy it, just enjoy it.
Dude knows his stuff. Every thing about the pizza is cared about and done well. Owner has researched and studied authentic Roman pizza and is recreating it perfectly. Check this place out and support him. Zero options nearby to support local or to eat decent food. Chain food wasteland. Go here instead .
