Original Review below - updated due to management response to critiques. Really appreciate that in a business. Here's to hoping for improvements at my favorite food joint.
This place has the best food... and the worst service. I brought two of my friends here because it’s my favorite restaurant, food wise, and warned them about the bad service, and they will probably never come back on their own because the service was so bad. It’s not any one server. We have never had good service here from anyone. I want so badly to give this place the 5 stars the food deserves, but I can’t. Because the service is just terrible.

We went here for brunch yesterday. The place was very busy and there was a 40 minute wait (which is no problem!) but when we were finally seated, the host generously gave us free chips and guacamole.
When the waiter came he was very polite and helpful. He walked us through his favorite menu items when I asked for a recommendation. The hopi cakes were delicious, I really recommend them. I also enjoyed my Huevos Montulenos and my S.O.'s wild mushroom omelette was also good. I previously had the faux-rizo taco at their takeout window, which was awesome.
I had ordered a coffee and my S.O. ordered orange juice (which is really good, pulpy, fresh-squeeze orange juice), and once again they gave us our drinks on the house for the wait! We only wound up paying for our actual entrees. It was really unexpected and totally unnecessary for them to do that. I would definitely recommend Golden West Cafe.
I have always enjoyed the vegan options at Golden West and we eat there fairly regularly. I enjoy the Tater Tots and my daughter adores the Vegan French Toast. And this year they have stepped up there game for Vegan Week - the gluten free vegan drummies were awesome. I liked the buffalo sauce, the texture and the taste - I hope these will be added to the regular menu! If the owners/managers are reading this please add these to your regular menu! Of course, the French Toast was great as was the Rice Noodles with Green Curry and Tofu!
What a Great place to eat or unwind, I go through this particular area all my work life but first time at the Golden West Cafe. If you come in and have to wait! It’s wise to be ready to wait a little time, but you’re going to be happy you did! The breakfast is the best, like the pancakes with banana, ( Elvis Presley ) bacon 🥓 and peanut butter. Coffee is good also and so is the service. Please tip the person that’s working to get your food. Enjoy !!!
Went here for the first time yesterday (Sunday). We were seated and our waiter Mike F. took our drink order. Anything I had a question about he answered, which I had more than a few. The breakfast Nachos were amazing! The polenta dish was good but I ordered it spicy and the spicy was for heat not for flavor. Next time I'll try it with the milder sauce. From our view we saw a bunch of people walking their dogs outside. Super nice to have a walk up window for coffee or take out so you don't have to worry about your pet.
We'll be back :-)
was on vacation in baltimore and love love loved the un-chicken quesadillas! it was just absolutely delicious. not the best place to eat if you don't do spicy food but the best place to eat if you like good food and good vibes.
I visited Baltimore from NJ this past weekend and learned about Golden West Cafe from the MD Vegan Eats site. It was so good the first time that we went back! Both servers were friendly and knowledgeable about what vegan options were available, and there were many. The food was delicious and nicely presented. The pumpkin curry soup was to die for and the vegan french toast was amazing. I will absolutely be back whenever I'm in the area!
Stopped in for brunch yesterday. The place was busy and we had to wait a bit. Once we ordered, the meal took a while to come, and one of the dishes was cold. They replaced it quickly with no fuss. The kids meals are huge and tasty! The adult meals are great but could use sides. Coffee was good and strong. Still a great meal....
Always go here, always amazing. My favorite place in Baltimore; chill atmosphere, delicious comfort food, and awesome decor that seems to change just the slightest every time I'm there. Their events are great too. All around would 100% recommend.
Awesome food menu, bar menu and service. My favorite is the tater tots and ring of fire burger.
Me and my boyfriend have been here a lot, the service is always great, and the food is amazing. Every Bing I have ever ordered has been awesome! Highly recommend
Truly awesome food, and cool atmosphere.
Had the pumpkin curry soup very good. I also had 2 tacos from the taco platter. A Cuban style and Indian style. Both super tasty and satisfying.
Love the vibe of this place. Went here for a date and it was great (the place, not the date sos). The decor is very cute and they were very intentional with the design. The waiter was nice and checked in often. There’s both a bar and table seating, include high tops and booths. I only have pictures of the bathroom because I wasn’t ready to tell my date I am a Google Local Guide Level 8.
Just solid food all around. The tater tots were soooo perfectly crispy and came with special dipping sauces rather than just ketchup. This was my first time trying Elvis Pancakes, which are apparently a real combination not unique to this restaurant, and they turned out really nicely. The peanut butter-butter that’s served on top was really good.
We had the brussel sprouts years ago and they were inspiringly amazing, just had them summer of 23 and they were terrible. Almost couldn't eat them, they were mushy drowning in teriyaki sauce.
Chorizo breakfast sausage was amazing. I recommend getting it with the Christmas. Red and green sauce is on top. I also had them put the hashed potatoes on the side instead of in the burrito.
Wife had a vegan breakfast sandwich That was amazing. Tasted really good. Even me the meat eater would order this sandwich. It was so good.
Fried green tomato appetizer was supposed to be amazing but it was just okay.
Sisters fake chicken sandwich (pic) was very good she said.
Another time had the lox w capers omelette. Get the cream cheese on the side. Very yummy.
This place is amazing! First off the atmosphere is so fun and inviting. The staff are all super friendly and there are so many vegan options! I had a hard time choosing because everything looked so good but the vegan mozzarella sticks were really cheesy. The biscuits was flakey and paired perfectly with the gravy. The vegan fried chicken was huge and really crispy and juicy. You can’t go wrong with this place!
This place used to be a lot better, honestly. I haven't been back since I moved out of town several years ago, and this was underwhelming. The tater tots remain good, but that's hard to mess up. The sopapilla enchiladas were pretty bad. The chicken was so overcooked it was actually *crunchy* so I just ate the beans and cheese with the guacamole. Overall, ambience is decent but I won't go back.
Obscenely delicious food. Extensive menu. Lots of vegan options. And a tasty green chile bloody mary!

Well, we still go to Golden West often, and today we stopped in to eat (instead of take out) for the first time in quite a while. The restaurant seems to have been renovated, and perhaps they are still working on it as they were opening some boxes with tables in them while we ate.
We were seated quickly on this Friday evening, it was early tho. The service was attentive and quick. The food was as good as ever. We ordered a Hangover Burger with (very) garlic fries, Zucchini Brie pancakes and regular buttermilk pancakes, we also started with the roasted Brussels sprouts. Everyone enjoyed their meals! Of course we will be back.

The new vegan steak is so so good. Looks convincing. Server Michael H was so lovely and knowledgeable. This place constantly has delicious vegan options.
Lots of vegan options! Was delicious. They have the impossible burger! Only thing is that I was really off put by the moose, bison and other stuffed animal corpses on the wall. :/ That aspect was not vegan friendly.
Our server Woodward, was so knowledgeable and friendly!
Update: came back, food is still great. They have the Just Egg now!
The breakfast/brunch menu is incredible! And so are the incredibly large espresso mugs.
I ordered the French toast where I was given the option of blueberries or bananas and walnuts. While I don’t think you can go wrong with either, I chose the bananas and walnuts. Crispy edges and a soft center. Yum!
Loved the decor, the service, and the diverse clientele in the restaurant. I’ll be back!
We went to Golden West Cafe for brunch on a lazy Wednesday morning. I ordered the vegan breakfast sandwich with sausage, JustEgg and vegan cheese and a side of hash browns (pictured mostly eaten). We shared a plate of the Vegan banana walnut French toast. I had a ginormous oat milk latte to drink. Everything was delicious, especially the French toast. The service was quick and the staff was friendly. We will definitely return.
Amazing food and very sweet staff; had a banana pancake with the breakfast burrito and both absolutely slapped. Service was a bit slow at lunch, but they may have just been short staffed in our area of the bar. Loved the atmosphere and will definitely be back!
I attended this establishment for a business lunch meeting. This was my first time here. The place was full but not crowded so I saw this as a good sign. The Aztec burrito was advertised on the outside of the restaurant and I decided to go with the well known crowd pleaser (recommended by a friend as well). It was delicious and very filling. Additionally, my party ordered the cauliflower wings. They were really good! Lastly, I appreciated the thoughtful gesture of giving our table York Peppermint Pattys. A lot of vegetarian and vegan options so definitely a good choice for that.
My second time visiting the restaurant and I must say they have it together this time around. I visited during the pandemic and the menu had many holes at the time. We ordered the vegan nachos, vegan Buffalo drummies w/ blue cheese, hot honay chick'n and waffle and a steak, egg and cheese sandwich. The nachos were delicious, could have had more cheese sauce though as they are nachos. The drummies were huge and flavored well, the blue cheese sauce was alright tasted more like ranch dressing though. I really enjoyed the chick'n that came with the waffle and the hot honay sauce, the waffle was alright, more chewy than I would have liked. My bf thought the steak, egg and cheese sandwich was decent. I know this restaurant isn't entirely vegan, but having the animal decor is really off putting to me. I love the little fig brand of chick'n so I'll definitely be back.
Such an awesome atmosphere with great, friendly service. (Yay Ramona!) The classic cheeseburger was outstanding—one of the best we’ve had in a long time. Coffee was really good, and loved that the iced coffee was served with simple syrup. Love this place!!
Extremely vegan friendly. Large selection of vegan options. Loved the vegan milkshake!
Had breakfast here for the 1st time last week. The food was delicious. I sent they had their famous Brussel sprouts on the menu. Even though it was breakfast, I took a order to go. Worked them into my dinner later that evening. I tell you they did not disappoint.

The energy of this gem was absolutely wonderful ! Plenty of room and fantastic decor. The menu was limited and seemed more geared to please vegans which I am not lol. We went on a Friday afternoon so parking wasn't a problem but on a busy day/ night it would be. Our waiter was very attentive, that's a plus these days. I will be return when the menu has more options.
Liked it: Burger was great! They serve tater tots. That's always a good thing! The ambiance and layout are nice. The bathroom was clean and a nice size. Waiter was very solid.
Yup! Goin back!
