My wife and I did one of the nature cruises here. we really enjoyed it. it’s about 41 bucks per adult and the boat is quite large. I estimate there was about 200 people on the boat. It’s a giant catamaran with three decks. The upper deck is the most exposed, but also offers the best views, the middle deck has a rear section that is open, and the forward section of the middle deck is enclosed with windows, the lower deck seems to be mostly enclosed, if you sit at the upper deck, you sit right behind the incredibly knowledgeable tour guide. The tour guide we had really knew everything about the area from property ownership to geological, factoids, and everything history in between, as well as a plethora of biology info, about flora and fauna we encountered on the tour.. there are some really breathtaking views to be had, and I recommend taking a camera. Whatever the ambient temperature is on land, I imagine it’s going to be about 15° colder out on the water we were there in October and the ambient temperature was in the low 50s, so I imagine with windchill we were dealing with temps in the 30s. we were bundled up though and prepared for it, so we really enjoyed. highly recommend this tour.
We visited Bar Harbor at the end of July and made it a priority to schedule a whale watching tour. We scheduled the morning tour and we’re glad we did. We easily found parking a block from where the boat was docked. I would recommend going in the morning as parking in the afternoon may be impossible to find.
The boarding process was quick and easy and the staff was very friendly. The boat was very large and modern. It was also incredibly clean.
We were advised that they were expecting some rough water (3 foot waves - which means nothing to me). People were given a chance to exit the boat if they were worried about getting sick. Sadly, not enough did. Our group was fine, but the crew was not paid nearly enough for caring for the amount of piece that got sick.
The young lady narrating our trip did a great job. She was very knowledgeable and quick to identify and point out various wildlife.
They have a voucher policy (good for 3 years) for if you don’t see any whales. Fortunately we came across several humpback whales during our time out.
Overall, it was a great experience and would highly recommend making part of your New England experience.
Great trip! Loved the guarantee to apply no show whale voucher on another cruise. We didn't need it though! There was so much wild life. Crew did a great job for safety, informative, and did little things like turn the boat to give everyone a view. Be warned though, they aren't kidding when they say 20 to 25 degrees cooler on the water! Plenty of space inside if you need to warm up, but if you want to sit outside for the cruise come in layers! Also, they allow carry on food and this helped us save money packing a picnic and had scavenger hunt planned for kids to keep occupied while traveling back to harbor. This was a fun activity that did not disappoint!
It was great the boat ride was so beautiful and the landscapes were to die for rocks were awesome. The guide was very knowledgeable about the area which was very interesting. Unfortunately we didn't see any Whales 🐋 but we did see seals 🦭 and Eagles which was totally worth it. Several mountains and Islands. I highly recommend going it's very peaceful. You need to zoom in to see the Seals 🦭 and Eagle we couldn't get to close so we didn't disturb them. Thanks for having us Bar Harbor Whale 🐋 watch
We had a great time on our whale watching tour and the lobster fishing tour we went on. The first whale watch tour we went on we didn’t see anything so they gave us vouchers that were good for 3 years to use. Luckily we were able to use ours within the next couple of days we were there. On the second trip we seen about 5 humpback whales, a lot of dolphins, porpoise and other animals. Well worth the money. The naturalist on board are awesome and love to educate.
The guide and captain were amazing. This was a very cool experience for my entire family! We saw how lobster pots were pulled and even caught a few in the pots. Then off to seal island. We saw so many seals and there was a lot of activity. Definitely would recommend this experience.
What a great experience! We went on an incredibly foggy day. Luckily we did get to see a lot of whales and even a shark! They took us about 20-30 miles off shore to find the whales, there is a guide that tries to keep you informed the whole way! She would tell us where the whale was spotted and the captain would spin the boat to make sure everyone gets to see. 10/10 would recommend if you visit the area, totally worth the cost!!!
What a wonderful experience!! We took the Lighthouse and scenic tour. It was so amazing! Our tour guide Abigail did a phenomenal job narrating the tour. We enjoyed the beauty of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. We learned so much about the nature and history of the area. Shout out to the inside sales office (Dale) for suggesting this tour!! We can’t wait to come back for another adventure with BHWW!
A great trip! The folks at check in worked with us since our morning trip was canceled due to heavy fog. Got us booked on the mid day cruise. The boats are big and hold a bunch of folks but there is plenty of room. We had a great guide. I suggest being on the top of the boat if you are taking photos or using binoculars. Especially if it’s foggy or misty. The angle of the sun makes the top a better viewing angle. And we did see whales and a good number of birds!
Absolutely beautiful.. Nice view of Atlantic. The islands give some photographic perspective. But there were so many traffics in the city and not enough parking spots. Also could not find public washroom nearby in emergency situations. Popular tourist destinations like this should have enough parking and toilet for the peak traffic. One less star for this reason.
