Out of all the gourmet burger joints popping up in the Rouge this one and Bsmith have the best overall ambience. This location benefits from being near LSU campus.
My favorite burger joint near campus. If you’re as big a fan of bacon cheese burgers as I am, I’d recommend the Bam Bam burger. Other menu highlights: duck fat fries sprinkled with Parmesan and the super rich milkshakes.
Great burgers! Today I got the "120" because the horseradish mayo sounded good. It was great. Just enough bacon but not too much, and the bacon was well done and crunchy like I like it. The cheese was great. The burger patty almost tasted homemade on an outdoor grill. Delicious. The chocolate malt is very good with great flavor, but it was full of little ice pieces that were a little annoying. I like the industrial-rustic atmosphere and they had Fixer Upper on the giant TVs at lunch time (yay). Not a ton of tables inside but the outdoor seating area looked nice. Want to go back and try every burger! They all look good and I'm sure they'll do custom ones too! I posted a photo of the menu, so check it out!
Heard about this from coworkers and finally tried, holy cow!! Great burger, loved the buns they use, was only going to eat half and save half for later. Forget that!! Had to eat the whole thing, it tasted so goood!!!will definitely be back
Holy Cow! What an amazing burger experience. Menu was a little expensive but the portion sizes definitely made up for that. Jalapeño sweet sour dough bun, beautifully present, great flavor on the patty, size was perfect, enough bacon to make you happy, right amount of topping, I had to ask for the homemade garlic mayo. These parmesan duck fries had enough parmesan to make an alfredo with thats what i expect for the price. I dont mind paying a little more if i get a little more and Fat cow delivers!
I ate at FCB for the first time in 2013 when i was visiting here for work and went back again last week now that i have moved here permanently. In a town thats not really known for great burgers i think FCB really stands out as one of the best places to get good burgers. Nice restaurant, good service and the food seems to be consistent.
This is a favorite of ours. I had the Bam Bam burger and heard heavenly angels sing as I took my first bite. I rated it at 4.5 due to space constraints.
This is heaven on a bun, people. I get the Hundred Dollar Burger every time. It's beyond worth it. I would pay an actual hundred bucks for that burger. During one visit, it was so good, I got emotional. It just can't get better than Fat Cow. It's the best burger you will ever eat. Sadly, I have moved to Texas. I was back in Baton Rouge for less than 2 days recently, and the one thing I insisted on doing was eating at Fat Cow. I didn't regret it. It was time well spent. FAT COW IS DIVINE.
Fat Cow makes the best burgers I've ever had from a restaurant. The serving sizes are on the larger side, esp. when it comes to fries. Their hamburger meat is of great quality. The buns are great, but they can get soggy quickly depending on which burger you get. This place has consistently good service and great food from trip to trip. The milkshakes are great, too. Only issue is the price...I can't get out of there without spending at least $18 on my food alone.
Only been a few times but some of the best burgers in town! Not the typical burger here.. many plus options for specialties. Lots of choices. Wentworth is a favorite! Definitely worth a try if your hunting for some great options for a good burger.
Really good! Duck fat fries are delicious and crispy! Love the local family feel here! The small fries are big enough to share! Tried a classic burger but can't wait to try one of the specialty burgers.
Always check out the new places in Tigertown on trips through the campus to see my relatives back home in New Orleans. My sister recommended this place so we stopped in last Saturday. My wife and I both had the petit burger but wish we would've added some of their great looking french fries - admired some at a nearby table. But back to the burger we had, it was angus, which is not my preferred burger patty - prefer ground meat, ground chuck, whatever. I find angus is too chewy, but like I said my sister loves 'em and we had to bring her one back home to-go. Neat college town (LSU) atmosphere and hustling staff on the grill. You can even dine alfresco on patio adorned with banana plants if you like. The salads did look pretty decent too so next time we'll try the rabbit food and FF's.

Absolutely love this place, the food is amazing, the milkshakes are to DIE FOR (try the tiramisu), the decor and ambience is modern with a rustic twist. Absoutely wonderful - also, their orders of fries are HUGE. Don't get a large order unless you want to split it between 4 people.
Fat Cow is Located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana Just off of the Campus of Louisiana State University. This place is nestled into a quaint little shopping center on Highland Rd. Parking was a tad cramped but was not an issue. Admittedly The inside of Fat cow does remind you of a 5 guys type place, But THE FOOD IS WHERE THE DIFFERENCE COMES IN!! First off, The Menu is much more vast than your average burger joint offering several varieties: They have a Standard and Signature Lines of burgers. Offered in a petite or regular size. We sampled 2 burgers on this trip. The “120” Burger and the “Hundred Dollar Burger”.
Milkshakes. Bring all the boys to the yard! Love the milkshakes!!!! Especially the king cake one!

Yumbolicious!. Finally had the chance to stop by and eat here after class. I ordered the Wentworth and a side of regular fries. Holy Moly it was good! I love love love the apple slices and the brie and the marmalade. Sure, my bun was a little moist, but probably mostly because I got it as a to go order and by the time I got home, the steam got to it. Service was really fast and friendly, as my wait was less than 10 minutes. Cant wait to go back and try a different signature burger...and maybe even the duck fat fries :)
Best burgers in town! The bread is Sweet and spicy which sounds strange but it makes so much sense! One word: Delicious!!! Good atmosphere, they even let dogs on the patio. The employees have asked if my dogs wanted water to get a water bowl. Very nice gesture.
Interesting. The fries (not the duck fat ones) and the regular burger with cheese were good. Were they the best I have had, no, but FAR from the worst. Fat Cow does have a good thing working here, only suggestions to help it out, the burger could benefit from being cooked to a requested temp other than done, i like medium rare, and it is a bit pricey. The regular burger with cheese combo, with fries and drink came to $11.99. I will go happily go back again.
Crazy Good Burgers!. I had a burger with a fried egg, ham, and some sweet sauce on it and it was sooooo amazing! And the duck fat fries are definitely something worst tasting! Big portions though and pricey so be careful! Super nice staff too!!!!

Worth a try. This place is an uber-hip burger experience. I liked it, my burger wasn't the best I've ever had but I might try it again, and the menu is pretty extensive. I really prefer a char-grilled restaurant style burger and was disappointed that this was cooked on the flat top.
Best Burgers in Baton Rouge. I LOVE the burgers here! I also like the fact that if I don't want a burger patty, I can substitute grilled chicken or salmon with it! Who else does that? Also, the duck fat fries are definitely something to try. And I never fail to get a shake when I leave (I suggest the banana's foster or tiramisu)! The atmosphere is also very family oriented. Really, you just need to go try it all out. It's definitely worth the price.

A little offended. I'm an employee at Fat Cow, and after reading these reviews and some of their ridiculous claims, I feel like I need to clear the air.
There is absolutely NO pork, sausage, or any other kind of filler in our patties, only 100% beef. The patties are made fresh every day from our personal meat grinder. Because we do this, our burgers can be cooked to order (even rare), so just let us know when you order. Our grill is, in fact, an open-flame grill fueled by 100% mesquite charcoal.
I will admit that when we first opened our fries were not very good. It took time to perfect our frying method, and now that we have, I'll put our fries up against anyone's. They're fried in canola oil; the duck fat is added after frying for the duck fat fries.
Our efficiency is much like our fries, in that it took trial and error to figure out how to run the kitchen. We operate much more smoothly now. Our food is always made on a per-order basis, so you can expect a 10 to 15 minute wait time for freshly cooked food unless we're swamped.
For those of you complaining about price, nearly everything we sell (even the chocolate sauce for the shakes, no Hershey's syrup here) is made in-house with top quality ingredients. You're paying a few extra dollars for good, fresh food. The petite burger itself is enough to make me full, so if you want to be economical, order one with a water and you can have a good lunch for 6 to 8 dollars.
I believe that covers my grievances. To those of you who posted unfounded claims about Fat Cow, I invite you to come back again for a second opinion!
Hands down the best burgers in town! Very unique with the different burger toppings and all of the meat is ground in house! I have yet to find a juicier more flavorful burger and they are topped with a jalapeno cheddar bun! It's making my mouth water just thinking about it!
I was a bit nervous paying so much for burger and fries... Much to my surprise however i got one of the biggest plates of hamburger and fries ever. Excellent value for the money. $10-$15
Good fries/"burgers'. I enjoyed the duck fat fries. I wouldn't of known it was fried in duck fat but I still found them tasty. I know people say these aren't real burgers but whatever it was, it was good and juicy. Lots of seating inside and out. Good environment to dine in.
Great Burgers. The first time I went here it took forever to get our food, but it was definitely worth the wait. I have gone back several times since and the service was much, much quicker. I have tried a different burger every time and I cant pick a favorite...they are all so good. I also like that its not your typical toppings...they are unique. I mean who would think to put an apple slice on a burger and it tastes good too. And if your not in the mood to be completely stuffed the salads are really good too! I love to sit on the patio too...Overall a great meal when your in the mood for a great and different burger!

How do you shake a fat cow?. On vacation in BR and I went here with my local friends. I'm normally not a red meat eater, but I was really pleased with my burger. But probably the best thing about this place was the malt shake I had here. I'll be visiting this place again for sure the next time I'm down in the area!
Great 100% beef patties! Nice to see someone is using something other than processed chuck in my burger. Only reason I wouldn't go there is if I was with a big group. The place is short on seating and always crowded. Get there a little early for a good seat. I would rather not sit between a spoiled toddler and intimidating biker, but when you have food like this it's hard to complain. I can't figure out why this place already has over 300 reviews. I guess people are passionate about the place? Oh, and people that are complaining about cold fries...go ask for hot fries! Seriously people...
Good, but definitely not the best in BR. Recipe concept is brilliant - but actual meat leaves much to be desired. Maybe it's my love for all beef patties, but something about this didn't add up. I expected much more flavor from the Parmesan and duck fat fries. Again, good but nothing "wow" about them. I will visit again, but wont go out of my way.
I had the Fuji Apple Salad... It was $7.99. I wanted to add either chicken or hamburger but didn't want to add $2.99, so didn't. This salad is in comparison to the Nutty salad at Jason's Deli, but Jason's Deli is much better. I've eaten here before but this was my first salad. I'm more satisfied with the salad than the burger and it's mixed patty.
Great atmoshphere. Loved the duck fat fries. Next time I will ask them to omit the cheese.

Ok....But it's not a burger. First let me say if your looking for an all beef burger steer clear of this place. The burgers are some mixture of beef and pork. Anway the burger are ok and when combined with the sweet buns they have this whole spicy and sweet thing going on that is rather nice. However the positives end there.....
Don't even get me started on the service. I have been to this place more than I can count on my hands and they have gotten my order wrong far more times than they have gotten them right.
I feel like these guys went to "Flip Burger" in Atlanta and tried to go with that whole idea.....well they missed the mark if thats where they got their inspiration. Flip has the best burger I have EVER had, but their owner and head Chef, Richard Blaise, also won Top Chef......
Anyway, the bottom line is I went to Burgersmith and have yet to go back to Fat Cow. At Burgersmith I can get a burger for well under $10 unlike at Fat Cow and ITS AN ALL BEEF BURGER not some sausage mystery meat claiming to be a burger.
The food was pretty good. The burgers were juicy and well seasoned. Took a ill while to get the order but it was worth the wait cause everything was fresh. If you want fast service go to McDonalds and get that junk.

Nice addition to BR.... First off, the burgers aren't THAT big. I usually eat 2 of their regular specialty burgers, no problem. I like the Wentworth, Napa, 120, Baja, and the specialty Sunday Benedict burgers with fried egg and various homemade hollandaise concoctions. I also order the Cochon Salad and add candied pecans, and it is pure awesomeness.

The burgers are pretty good if you don't mind waiting. Just tried a milk shake on my last visit. It was fantastic. I know I'm not the only person that likes this place.

Jury is still out, but it doesn't look good for the defendant!. So we finally got our Fat Cow burger fix last night. I'll start by saying that we went in around midday on Sunday. At the time, it was slam-packed and the girl at the register told us that any order would take at least 30 mins to complete. So we opted to come another day.
We chose to return on what was no doubt an idle Tuesday evening. Just a couple people eating, 1 or 2 more in line. No problem. The food took just under 15 mins to prepare and we got it 'to go.' All in all, the total order included the bacon cheeseburger (I am a self-proclaimed connoisseur of this variety), the bacon cheese fries, the cochon salad w/ grilled chicken and a chocolate shake. Here are my thoughts on each:
Bacon cheeseburger - Pretty good, but not anything spectacular. Bun is flavorful as is the meat. Lettuce and tomato were very fresh and juicy. Cheese and bacon were good but man, the bacon is super salty! And I LOVE bacon - I'm a 'bacon guy!'
Bacon cheese fries - Huge portion if you opt for the large order. Also pretty good, but not anything to write home about. Again the bacon is so salty it's almost unbearable. You'd have to try it to see what I mean.
Cochon salad - Great salad w/ spinach. Threw some grilled chicken on there for kicks. A lot of the chicken was chewy and the marinade made the flavor seem like they were trying to hard - that's what came to mind.
Chocolate shake - I also liken myself to be a connoisseur of these. It was fantastic and pretty reasonably priced (considered the rest of the menu is a bit pricey) - only $3.99, but I noticed a lot of the other shakes were pricier. Flavor-wise though, they got this one right on the money!
So there you have it. I'll probably be back at some point, only to try something else and make sure my thoughts on this place are completely valid. Everyone's tastes are different and it might be just right for you - give 'em a try. At this point, I can't 'like' or 'dislike'. I'll save that for the 2nd go around.
Cool atmosphere w/ a few big flat panels on the wall. They serve draft beer, but the prices are a bit outrageous from draft. Cool patio, but the indoor dining area is kinda small - and I've seen first-hand how this place can get cramped. They should get great biz being right next to LSU, but again they are pricey and may be too much so for collegiate budgets. I guess we'll see! So, if you try something new and don't mind spending a few extra bucks, try 'em out. It might suit you moreso than it did for me...
INTOXICATING!. Better than most if not all burger places in Red Stick. I had the smokestack burger w/bacon & cheese fries, onion rings and a coke for $20. The onion rings & fries are huge orders. Bring lots of friends to share with! You will feel like a Fat Cow if you complete your meal too. As for the previous reviews about service. I think, that's all been worked out with management oversight. Also, expect about 10-15 minutes for your order to be completed. Time is needed for properly cooked food.
Good not Great. My friend said "you gotta try the new best hamburger in Baton Rouge", I was in. With some great burgers in this town these had to be great and the duck fat fries were calling too. After my second visit, the burgers are good- a little overcooked for me. Most disappointing are the fries, both the duck fat and regular varieties were soggy and not worth the added calories and fat. The real malts are real good and I recommend them; I had chocolate. If someone wants the best burger in BR, I still take them to Mason's or George's- whichever is closest.
Close to Good Stuff in DC. Husband and I went last night and loved every bite. Oogled over the milkshake options but were much too full to consider them in the end. Next time! I got the Napa burger and he got the Smoke Stack. Both were exceptionally good- warm and packed with flavor. We loved how the fries were not too potato-y but still thick. Our favorite burger place is in DC called Good Stuff---this is so very close!! We loved our experience! Thanks fat cow!

I just read the other reviews posted, I honestly think the negative ones are fake. They MUST BE!!! I don't know why someone would post a fake review but the two negative reviews literally had to be. I honestly think they were by competitors scared for their business. I went with a friend and his words after his first bite were, "WOW, the search for the best burger in Baton Rouge is over!!" And i couldn't agree more. I got the smokestack burger and loved all of it. The bacon was about 1/4 inch think and was to die for. the flavor it contributed to the burger was perfect. It wasn't that thin cheap artificially flavored bacon you get a fast food joint, but thick and juicy and you can taste the slow smoked flavor. The onion strings on the burger were enough to be it's own side dish and the tangy BBQ sauce complimented the fries perfectly. The bun was amazing and it was all accented by a whole lettuce leaf and perfect tomato. And, the fries, just as good. the best i've had. do yourself a favor and check this place out. the only negative i could think of was a little pricey for a burger place but well worth it
Just plain good. The people that don't like this place are crazy---maybe they caught FC on an off day, who knows? The wentworth is by far the best burger around, no questions asked. Like many of the other people, I'm ready for some cooler weather and some afternoons on the patio. They could tighten up a bit on the getting their liquor license, but that's the only negative I can find.
