Had a great first meal. Two of us had the tabletop BBQ and the seafood pancake. Other two had the yellow curry and bin bim bop. Service was excellent and food was great. We will be back to try other dishes. We were there at 530pm and it was busy but no wait. Can see how it could get. Rowdies though.
Nak Won is a great value. My family of four feasted on banchan, steamed pot stickers (jjin mandu), kimchi jjigae, steamed rice, lettuce chards and ssamjang, and a platter of meat — pork belly (samgyeopsal), beef (bulgogi), and beef franken ribs (galbi). We ate so much we chose to skip dinner altogether. All for around $60.
Rule #1 — Arrive early. The place is popular and, predictably, packed. There’s a three-hour window for lunch (11:30-2:30) and a three-and-a-half hour window for dinner (5:00-8:30), except for Fridays and Saturdays, when the restaurant closes at 8 p.m. Wander in during the last half hour at your own risk. In that last half hour, the kitchen is backed up with orders and the menu options narrow. Don’t blame the restaurant. Blame yourself for arriving late.
Rule #2 — Play the field. Explore the menu and order a dish or two outside your comfort zone. You will be rewarded. Ordered beef bulgogi last time? Try the soondubu jjigae, a soft tofu soup with meat and vegetables served boiling hot. Our family eyed dishes delivered to surrounding tables and made notes for our next visit.
Rule #3 — Bring friends. Korean BBQ and comfort food play well to a communal table and Nak Won’s atmosphere is no exception. You’ll quickly find there’s plenty to share with your guests, whether you ladle soup, slide along small bowls of banchan, or serve sizzling hot meat from your table grill.
Quibble #1 — The steamed pot stickers was the only dish to disappoint. I knew I should have ordered a green onion pancake. Though, I recovered when I ordered a large bottle of Hite beer to share with my wife as we deliriously chewed on BBQ meats.
Quibble #2 — Banchan is free and refillable, although I didn’t care for either the spicy bean sprouts or the fish cake. The potato salad is authentic to Asian cultures (I ate a similar recipe in Japan), but might come across as relatively flavorless to palates tuned to spicier variations.
Quibble #3 — Finally, some more adventurous Korean BBQ meat choices aren’t on the menu but those listed at Nak Won are solid.
Nak Won is an excellent example of both matriarchal entrepreneurialism and culinary tradition. Chef Tae Ok Lee serves up Korean comfort food just as she has for decades. We especially liked Chef Lee’s haemul pajeon, a thick crepe filled with scallions and shrimp. Its crispy outside/creamy inside texture and nice but muted sea food notes grounded the heat of the accompanying chili paste sauce.
While MagoGuide liked Nak Won and will happily return to check out the many soups in the voluminous and picturesque menu, we do not understand the restaurant's elevation above so many other VFM Korean eateries in Beaverton. Check out our restaurant review and find out why.
Beef Bibimbop. Beef bibimbop and side dishes
Love their banchan. Went here for lunch today, and what really impressed me were their side dishes! I really like the radish kimchi and the bean sprouts in particular. Sooo good.
I also tried their gam ja tang. It was good, but I much prefer the one at JCD still! Nevertheless, I will be coming back to check out the rest of their menu!
Some reviewers need to open their minds. It's a small, busy place with just a few on staff. The focus is the food which the turn out to order and so far we have not been disappointed. Spicy octopus, bulgogi, Korean curry, pancake, all fantastic. Services was great despite how busy it has been each time. Beware not to order too much as servings are large and they start you off with a series of kimchi, pickled items and small salads to share. If you go during busy hours expect service to be that of any busy restaurant. Affordable, fantastic food.
Finally stopped in and glad we did. We got 6 small plates of kimchi, potatoa salad, and other goodies. Nice start to the meal. Our appetizer was the seafood pancake and it was a hit. Shrimp well cooked and great flavor overall. My Kalbi was very good, tender and nice sauce. Wife had the curry shrimp, not fancy but the smell of curry covered the table. Daughter had the "won ton" soup and she enjoyed it. Good service. Overall a positive experience and a place we will return to.
Good food sticky tables.. The food is always good here although the tables and floor are often sticky and service can be painfully slow. The water and metal cups is just creepy.
Best Korean food in town! Order and share with the whole table, each entree is huge and delicious. Kimchees galore too! They have competetion right next door, but that place is a joke in comparison. The owner here is super helpful and his Mother is the head chef. Don't miss out on this local favorite!
Nak Won exceeded our expectations. The food portions are large. The quality of food is great. The menu has a large selection. The service was super attentive and they hosted our dinner party well! The ambiance is not modern, or trendy but I still think it’s a good sit down! We enjoyed the dining experience and would recommend!
We absolutely love this restaurant. We have been visiting this restaurant regularly for more than 15 years and counting! The side dishes are great and tasty and you can refill. The portion is big, always be sure you are not over ordering!
A bit on the pricey side for Beaverton. However it's really good quality of food. And you're getting a lot!! For context I normally finish my food in one sitting. I almost had to get a To go box this time.
Not sure what protein to get for your bowl? Short rib, short rib, short rib.
Staff was nice and friendly and I like the newer look inside too. Thanks for all your hard work chef!
Absolutely delightful. The food is amazing and the portions are more than generous. Get here early, for this place is open for 3 1/2 hours a day!
I grew up eating Korean food, and everything here is like halmeoni, Korean grandmother made. The food is authentic and if you are looking for exotic flavor, this is a good place to try. It is hard to recommend one dish as everything is good. If you are not too adventurous, the Korean BBQ options are safest but still tasty options. If you are in the mood for noodles or stew, try the Budae Jjigage aka Army Stew, some of the ingredients might make you go HUH? but the flavor will make you go YUM. My only criticism for Nak Won is their Jajangmyeon, it doesn't have as rich of a flavor I would prefer.
Absolutely amazing! Most people will be able to easily split an entree and still feel full, might want an appetizer. Definitely need to go back and try the rest of the menu!
Food was great. The spicy chicken wings had a great texture but needed more sauce and spice. The Korean cheese corn dogs were so crispy and the cheese was melted to where you could do a perfect cheese pull. The tteokbokki wasn’t that great. The sauce was lacking some flavor. It was soft and spongy. I prefer mine a bit crispier with more bite to it.
This is by far the best Korean food. The seafood tofu soup and beef rib soup are really big and tasty. Will definitely visit here next time!
