This is a hidden gem snuggled right up against the river within Benton Harbor, right across the bridge from Saint Joe. The food is decent bar food, but the environment during the summer is amazing with live entertainment and drinks by the water. During the winter it is cozy and has great prices. The kitchen is open very late and it is a great option if you are burning candle light.
Owners are fantastic. Came and sat with us and had a great conversation. Great view from their outdoor area by the docks.
The people are awesome! I worked in the area building wooden bridges back around 2011 or so and went there a lot. I'm a trucker now and still stop in to see my old friends when I'm up from Florida and anywhere near the area. 😎

I'm not sure I want to tell you to come to River's Edge. The food is a standard bar menu, but done surprisingly well. The food and the neighborhood bar feeling of the place are the reasons I keep coming back here. And the jukebox. Most of the year, the place is completely ignored by the tourists, and the standard dive-bar interior does nothing to encourage them. But then comes summer, and those in the know take a sharp right at the entrance and trek to the back yard, a quiet place on what remains of the Benton Harbor canal, to soak up the last rays of the setting sun and listen to the birds settling in. Aaah.
Update for 2022: I keep coming here and regretting that I originally gave it 3 stars. Rating it as a dive bar, River’s Edge is a 5 plus. The food and service are still great, and now River’s Edge has a great, redone outside area. As I sit at one of those outdoor tables tonight, I’m watching the canoes and kayaks slip by on this little remnant of the Benton Harbor Ship Canal and enjoying the sunset. Tonight there’s a great local blues band playing. People come by boat or car (park at one of the nearby businesses if the parking lot is full.) I love this place.
Brought our dinghy out for some dinner. When we pulled up to the dinghy dock there was a gentleman playing some classic rock on his guitar. The food was good, waitress/ bartender was friendly, and we left full. Definitely recommend for a quick bite and a drink.

We've been going to River's Edge for years. We generally go in by jet boat during the day for a burger or pork tenderloin sandwich & drinks during the summer months. I have never been there in the evening or winter. We've never driven up because they really don't have much parking. They have a large outdoor area with covered & uncovered tables. The food is yummy for a small bar & I think they really care about their regular customers.
Excellent for what it is. Great little dive bar with good dive bar food. Don't expect much and you will enjoy. A big plus is they have a dock for your boat a a large rear patio\lawn. Service was great BTW
It was very nice they have a DJ on Sundays , from 4:00 /8:00 had a very nice time.
Always loved this place others made the decision for me to stay away great food and the owners are the best treat me like family
The service is great and the food is delicious! The bar reminds me of cheers, everyone knows you name! I want to come back when the weather is warmer. The outside area looks like it will be a good time.

Nice outdoor setting in the summer overlooking the Paw Paw River inlet to Lake Michigan and Harbor Shores Pro Gulf Course. Live music on the weekends in the summer.
Excellent burgers, good drinks and a fun and friendly crowd.

The River Edge has the best patty melt. We love the staff & the owners. Good folks with a nice fenced in area with access to the St Joseph River.

Original beer and burger joint with riverfront dining. Probably one of the best hidden jem spots as you can relax at the waters edge for the afternoon and drink a beer without snooty atmosphere or prices.

Hot ham and cheese was the bomb.. the beers were ice cold and the service was perfect. This is the roadside bar that you are looking for 😉
Low key dive bar with a really great outdoor seating area along the river. The bartenders are always extremely welcoming as well.
Staff are very helpful and friendly. Good selection of alcohol, and great patio.
