We recently attended an event where food was catered from Passage to India . Overall food was good and there were some very good dishes and some average but none was horrible - which is always a good thing. For starters there were panipuri with stuffed potato and green mint and tamarind water. It was very tasty. The bean tikki was also good but the chicken malai kebab did not fly very well. It was quite dry and not much ‘malai dar’ or creamy or succulent as I would have expected.
For mains there were multiple things - assorted bread basket, peas pulao , yellow daal, palak makai (spinach and corn), mixed veggies, chicken tikka masala, goat curry.
For me the highlight was the green paratha ( I think it was Methi but not sure) , palak makai and chicken tikka masala. I love goat curry but this one was quite average. The salad was very fresh and whatever dressing they used , it worked wonders . For dessert there was mango shirkhand and it was yummy!
Okay, Passage to India! You just earned yourself a regular customer. There are several Indian restaurants around Woodmont Triangle, and I've only been to a couple. Therefore I can't say how Passage to India ranks among others. But I can say I had one of the best meals, Indian or otherwise, in recent memory. Our server was attentive, courteous, and kind. Why there is not a line out the door, I have no idea. You should definitely give this place a try.
It was a great surprise to dinner at this restaurant! You learn about the different foods by each region in India. The Menu is very interesting and well written
My husband and his parents have been coming here for over 20 years and it’s the go-to spot whenever we crave Indian food. Before I met my husband, I didn’t really eat much Indian food but now I always crave to come here to Passage to India for their chicken tikka masala! Their goat curry is also very good! As a staple, we also order some veggie side dishes that include spinach with corn, eggplant, okra, and onion kulcha. Drinks are also good and staff is very attentive and friendly. Bathrooms are always clean! There’s street parking and a parking garage across the street. Definitely a place to check out if you’re in Bethesda!
Exquisitely delicious food and good friendly service. We ordered Tandoori scallops and it was cooked to perfection. Squid was good and so was the eggplant. Main courses were the tastiest. Chicken tikka masala was the bomb!! All those spices just blends so well and really tickles your palate. Chicken cilantro was just as good and the lamb was good too but I most likely won’t order it again next time.
Place was almost perfect. It could have used a little bit of music. They were busy but they also immediately asked for patience and understanding which I thought was really nice of them. Great experience. Will be back!
The food is outstanding. Homemade recipes for sure. I have tried other Indian restaurants in dc and Bethesda. None if them hood s as candle to this place. I am very picky and their food is outstanding. Thru could improve on their nam bread.
We really liked the food. Ordered samosa chat and fritters for starters and they were delicious. For main course we ordered kadai paneer and palak paneer with kulchas and naans. All of them tasted great. Kadai paneer was not on the menu but the bearer informed us when we were looking for paneer options. If you can update the menu it will be helpful for others.
Have been here multiple times over the years. Only once have I had a dry piece of chicken or beef, and tonivht was not that time. Even in COVID, this restaurant puts out high quality Indian cuisine.
Not sure why the low 4-star rating, the food, the service, the atmosphere was excellent. Very very good Indian food and authentic. Great vegan options.
Nice restaurant. Spice levels might not be up to Indian spice levels but the flavours are lit. Has nice rizz inside
Best Indian restaurant in Bethesda. Good food, service and atmosphere. This place is a little pricier than most Indian restaurants in the area but definitely worth it
It was very nice restaurant!
Quiet, artistic, and good lights.
The food were excellent, pretty good portions, and very friendly servers!
I had very good time with my husband for date night😃
The curry lamb is heaven beautifully cooked and the service was great. Loves the quiet yet romantic atmosphere great for a date night. I'm sure you could bring kids but wouldn't recommend it.
First time ordering from Passage to India. I wanted something with a little kick to go with some Riesling I opened last night, and was super excited to see that they had goat curry. Said curry arrived promptly on time from GrubHub, and wow! It is really, really good. Beautiful spice aromas, lots of meat, just the right amount of heat. This exceeded my expecations and I will definitely be ordering from here again.
