This place was pretty easy to get to from the naval base. Parking was easy the first time, however the second time they had the road on the side blocked off for seating in the street. The employees were friendly and gave a good military discount. The food was prepared quickly and was delicious. I would not recommend the queso with chips. The cheese got cold and hard too by the time I got home. The salsa is good.
Best food in bethesda. Great portions and employees are amazing !!!
They have amazing customer service and very respectful. I love it.
God bless you all.

I always loved California tortilla, unfortunately because of covid you can’t choose your own spicy sauces. But you can request some at the register if you remember which one you liked. At this location once you get in you have to scan a QR code which makes you take a covid survey. The food is great and if you love food that has flavor you will love this restaurant. Some people compare it to chipotle but this place is better in my opinion. I love the Korean bbq (i choose the bowl version with tortilla on the side) . And its very affordable for the area.
Clean, friendly staff, good food. Highly recommend
It is hard to go wrong with California Tortilla (or Cal Tort for short), which is not really authentic Mexican (maybe California-Mexican), but more of a high-end fast taco place. We have been customers since the first one opened (I think that was before my kids were born, i.e., 2000, but I might be wrong). All I know is that we have never been disappointed with this Cal Tort location (the original store but a location across the street from where it all started).
My favorite part of the store is the wall of hot sauces, ranked in heat, that can make any meal mouth numbing so that it tastes great. I actually do love some of the menu items (the chicken caesar burrito, which is what I think I ordered the first time I was ever there), but the healthiness (i.e., method of preparation) of some items seems to have waned.
Anyway, my kids, who are now in their 20s, still order the kid's burrito meal and love it, and I occasionally make it back for either a burrito or a bowl, which makes me feel like I am being healthier.
I work in the building so it is the go to when I dont bring my lunch. Consistently good food, and they mix it up with interesting specials.
I love CalTor so I am biased but this is my fave location. The sauce wall is always stocked and they do not skimp on handing out the little cups for them unlike some locations. Nice atmosphere.
This is a local institution and great for what it is; it's a casual burrito joint with several creative combinations, a 'wall of flame' of hot sauces, 80s music, and a casual vibe. You can spin a prize wheel on Monday nights and can win chips and queso or even a burrito. Great for catering too.
Update 9/26/21..the place is much cleaner and there is no smell!! Sitting at the same booth as last time. Everything is must cleaner and put together!
The food and staff wwas great. The place is falling apart. The area near the soda fountain smelled like pee. It grossed me out so much I barely ate my food. I did eat it later and it was good. The pee smell was overwhelming.
Whenever we show up, the staff is courteous and welcoming. The food is good--there are delicious salads for me, burritos, etc. for others. It's healthy and not expensive and you don't have to wait too long for the food to be prepared as you watch. I appreciate how they're handling the pandemic. There have been a lot of changes on that street, but they are a rock. So grateful for CalTort.
Alex is super attentive to customer. I called in to make certain the additional items were in bag. He identified my order went through every item and had a smile through the phone the entire time. I love great customer service in 2022.
This is one of my all-time favorite burrito places. I usually get the California screaming burrito and top it off with one of the many different hot sauces available on the wall the flame. I also enjoy the Coca-Cola machines that offer a dozen different Coca-Cola flavors at the touch of a button. The staff is always friendly and helpful and the facility is very clean. Keep up the good work!
Really delicious food. I craved Mexican food and found this place and it satisfied my appetite. :) I also like that the staff is very friendly and courteous. Will definitely come here again.
Update: I've come here many times over the past year and I can definitely say that the staff and food has always been of great quality. It's definitely a good atmosphere for coming and sitting down with a group or even by yourself. Online ordering is a breeze too!
Always get my food prepared promptly and properly. The staff is nice and makes sure I get what I need. There's street parking there, across the street and around them in the neighborhood. They did kinda drop the ball on cinco de mayo this year. Accepting too many orders (online and in-store), not communicating with the dozens of people there waiting, ignoring those waiting at the registers looking for help, and not putting up a notice that they were at capacity. You can expect places to be crowded during holidays but I also expect management to step up and keep the order. Having said that, the other times I've gone I've been happy with the food and service.
The food was good. Service was pretty fast. I tried the street Tacos and my wife had a bowl. The street Tacos I tried at other fast food places were dry, the tacos here were fresh and had a good ratio to tortialla to stuffing. The bowl is not your Chipotle bowl but it's decent. They have an interestingly big collection of sauces called the wall of flame about 70-75 unique sauces with different levels of spice. The premise itself is not the best, can be organized better and a little more appealing and clean.
