Their staff was absolutely amazing! They hustled, they worked well together, and it was entertainment to watch how great of a job they did. The food was fabulous. The amount of meat on my sandwich was extremely cool! Highly recommend this place.
Great burgers in this historical restaurant in the heart of downtown Big Rapids. It dates back to the 1930's. You can tell by the vintage wooden bar and ice coolers. Love those. Even our famous American author Ernest Hemingway visited and has a review of the place back then on the wall. His family had a summer home north of there on Walloon Lake. The staff are fun characters too. I will return as there are many burger variations and of course other delicious items on the menu, like their Reuben sandwich, a must have.
10/10 recommend! The prices are good and they offer gluten free buns (for an extra 2:50)! It’s hard to find a local restaurant that offers gluten free buns, especially burger joints. The gluten free bun was also really good, it wasn’t crumbly or anything. The rum and coke I ordered was also delicious, it was really smooth. Also definitely get the tater tots, you can tell they are homemade! I would say service could be better though, they only had 3 waitresses for the whole restaurant and we waited about 15 minutes after we were done eating to get our bill. But it was also very busy. Another bonus-they had mustard AT the table. At most restaurants you have to ask to get mustard, but I appreciate that they have the mustard right there for you. The music wasn’t too loud, either and the environment was cool. They have a bunch of various vintage beer advertisements hung on the walls along with some other cool decor. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
My wife and I went there a few weeks ago, and glad we did! The food is extremely reasonably priced, and it tastes great. They have a large range of burger combos to choose from, they have great and decent priced apps, and the drinks are good too. And the deal-sealer for my wife and I was the GF bun options they have. It’s $1.50 or $2.50 for a GF burger bun, which when having a sit-down meal isn’t anything. I think my wife and I spent maybe $35 including a 20% tip, and we both had full meals, she got a Jack/coke and I got a cherry (grenadine) coke, along with tater tot app. The food was delicious! Only downside, if there was one to be had, was the seating. The seating was so packed we sat at the bar, and scoped out a table that was looking to wrap up, and once they finished, we moved right into the table. But that wasn’t a big deal for us! The waitress even got us drinks at the bar and moved to the table with us!
We enjoyed this place and the history behind it. It was not too busy, which was nice. Our server was nice and our food was good. We liked the variety of burgers and sandwiches available.
Let me 1st apologize for pictures of half eaten food. We were really hungry and forgot to take pictures before we started eating but as you can see we enjoyed our meals! I had the Walleye, which was cooked perfectly, along with mashed potatoes and asparagus. My better half had the steak special which she absolutely destroyed. My only complaint is that their CO tank was out so I didn't have a chance to taste a couple of the draft beers they are known for. Oh well, just gives me a reason to go back again next time I'm in town.
Our waitress was fun and gave great service! Three of us got burgers and one, a chicken salad. All of our food was delicious. They have at least a dozen different and unique burger combos. We had the fried dill pickles as an appetizer.

This is our favorite restaurant for so many reasons! Excellent service, the most delicious burgers and the atmosphere can't be beat.
Quaint, small town restaurant. I had the Michigan salad (which may only be offered in season) with grilled chicken. The greens were mostly iceberg, but the rest was very good. Loved the retro bathroom - which was very clean.
Visiting from Virginia and stopped in for lunch. My food was amazing. Heather waited on me at the bar and was very nice. The place was busy and everyone was hustling. They two guys making food were nonstop and I was extremely impressed with how they worked together. Thanks for the great experience and can’t wait to pop in on my next visit this way.
The "Big Schu" is the biggest burger I've ever eaten! Next time I'll just get the original Schuburger. The sweet potato fries are excellent! Fun atmosphere...busy, popular hangout!
Didn't have the meal we saw online, but found plenty to choose from. I had the steak sandwich which was tender but over cooked. Wife had Tipsy Dip which she said was very delicious. Onion rings and fried mushrooms were ok, but not as good as some other places.
Street parking and we got relatively close. The restaurant filled up while we were there. Not easy to talk at our table. Lots of locals eating there.
I asked for a slim-jim sandwich which was not on the menu, and the cook looked up exactly what was on a slim-jim and how to prepare one and made me the sandwich I was craving. It was 100% what I expected. I was so happy that they went out of the way to give me what I wanted. Great place, great atmosphere, great food.
5 stars all the way across the board.
The burgers here are awesome. Great lunch spot for a quick bite and a brew. Staff extremely nice and quick service.
Great place for burgers. Huge variety along with other sandwiches. Everything I've had has been very good. Great atmosphere and service. It's worth a try.
What a wonderful place! We happened upon here, during a trip, looking for a restaurant that wasnt a chain. Great service and the food was fantastic! Props to the cook, been there 30 years i hear, who made an excellent burger cooked to perfection, onion rings that were to die for, fantastic fries and great prices! Check this place out if your in town.
