My father and I visited upon a recommendation given to him. The restaurant was cozy, and had a cool Bohemian vibe about it. We both ordered Highland Ale beers. The side salads were fresh, full of yummy salad greens, tomato, and just the right amount of sliced, red onions. The house dressing was terrific. It was pink, creamy with a hint of yogurt. We ordered the Rose pizza. The tomato sauce was sweet and seasoned just right. Probably the yummiest pizza sauce I’ve had at a pizza restaurant. The roasted garlic was a perfect complement to the mozzarella and sauce. The crust was thin but tasty. I recommend Fresh Wood Fired Pizza. It’s nice to find a local place that really lives up to its name. I liked the variety of options in the menu. Everything seemed fresh and locally supported.
The best place to get gluten free pizza. It was delicious wish we lived closer I would eat there all the time. It is very hard to find good gluten free pizza at a reasonable price and they have it. Would highly recommend. Plus my family loved the other pizza also.

My boyfriend and I are on vacation from Florence, SC and absolutely loved this place. He had the mussels and I ordered the fried ravioli, also getting the Chèvre pizza and Alfredo. Wonderfully sized portions!! Great beer on tap and our server, Crystal, was a total sweetheart and took great care of us. She was patient and attentive and we really enjoyed her and our experience!
Excellent salad. Delicious pizza. Only regret is that we were interested in buying a few pieces of pottery but our server didn't seem to care. His comment was that the owner was present, but never offered to get the owner for us. We would highly recommend!
Our favorite place to have a great meal (gluten free food and drinks), laid back atmosphere, and people.
Wonderful place, I had a pizza and Liz had a half size angel hair with meat sauce. Both very tasty and so good to get a smaller portion. Place was full on a Wednesday night, don’t need to say anything else.

This pizza was amazing!!! The crust was fabulous and the different selections of pizza made it hard to choose. My family had the Veggie Delite, The Scarface, and Beef and Onion. All were delicious! If only they delivered to our home 600 miles away
By far the best pizza I have had in years. If your in Black Mountain this place is a must !!
By far, the Best place we ate on our whole vacation in Black Mountain. We went back twice because the wait staff and food were So good
Great pizza 🍕! Nice people! Prices reasonable. Didn’t have to wait long for a table. If you want pizza 🍕 while visiting Black Mountain, NC this is the place.

Good food and casual atsmosphere in Black Mountain. Highly recommend the pizza
Great food and atmosphere! Totally recommend this place to anyone who loves pizza!
Desperate for something on our travels that wasn't BBQ or Mexican, and found this little gem hidden on Black Mountain. Perfect and delicious. Glad we stumbled across you, and glad your Yelp fans were accurate in their rave reviews.
Passing thru after the eclipse on 21 August. Lovely meal on the patio, we experiment with pizza and pasta and salad. All tasty, fresh ingredients, well prepared and quickly served. Recommend highly, would love to return for another meal.
Great pizza found here! By chance we stopped at thus place and I'm sure glad we did.
Loved it! My husband and I travel all over in search of the best pizza, this place easily makes our top 5. We created our own pizza using the Madonna and adding sun dried tomatoes, pancetta, and arugula. Yummy!! Gourmet taste at an exceptional price.
Got takeout pizza and it was delicious. I had the BBQ chicken pizza and would order it again. All our friends liked their pizzas too.
Back for my birthday dinner with my wonderful husband. Cheesy breadsticks & scarface...yummy!
Amazing find. Recently moved to BlackMtn. and passed by this small place a few times .Finally decided to give it a shot and was blown away. Excellent service and fantastic pizza(one of the top 3 pizza's I have ever had),This is my new favorite place here...worth the drive from anywhere in the Asheville area.
Fabulous Food and Beautiful Art!. FRESH is a place you definitely should put on your list of restaurants to visit when you're in Western North Carolina! As vegans, we appreciated the many choices and instant understanding of the restaurant staff. The food was delicious! The owner is right there, tossing the pizza crust himself, in view of the patrons. His ceramic art adorns the place, which is an added attraction. All his art is for sale, too! This is a sweet little place with amazing tree trunk bars and plants galore, fantastic food and a funky, truly fun ambiance. Check it out!
Great Pizza. I love the pizza at FRESH. The ingredients are fresh and often sourced locally. Salads are fantastic too.
Great place!!. We traveled in from out of state and were lucky enough to find Fresh Wood Fired Pizza. Wife and kids had one of the best pizzas ever and got to watch the owner cook the pizza right in front of you. I had a gluten free pizza and speaking from experience, it was seriously good. Will definitely be back!!
More than just great pizza.... It's not often I take the time to write reviews here... so when I do, it's for something special. My wife and I discovered this small restaurant thanks to a sign on I-40 on the way to Asheville many months ago. I normally wouldn't be interested in most places that advertise along the interstate, but we were in the mood for fancy pizza and decided to take our chances on this place touting a brick oven. Both that first time, and last night (which makes two trips for us) were wonderful experiences, worthy of a few minutes out of my life to share it with you. Our first meal there was excellent, but most restaurants get lucky and have a good night... this place was excellent twice, which proves to me this place is serious about what they do. My descriptions below will focus on my meal last night since I would never dream of writing a review based on something I ate months ago.
I love hot soup in cold weather, so I took a chance and started with French Onion soup. I'm no soup expert, but we both thought it was delicious. Instead of being topped with one slice of bread as many places do, it was topped with cubes of bread... some of which could have been crunchy enough to be a crouton. And that, of course, was covered with delicious melted cheese. Normally this soup can be a big bowl of soft things... cooked limp onions, soaked bread, and gooey cheese. But the added crunch of the crust on that cubed bread (or croutons?) really added a little life to the soup experience. The broth which makes up the base of the soup was perfect... not too salty, not too sweet. If there was one thing I would have been willing to give them a pass on, it would have been soup... but they passed the test with flying colors. I'll definitely be trying their other soups in the future.
The first time we at here many moons ago, I started with a Greek salad which I thought was excellent at the time. At the time I thought maybe it was just good luck. But last night, my wife had a house salad which brought back memories of that first salad. Many pizza places offer salads as an accessory or afterthought... but this place has salads that could stand on their own. The ingredients are fresh, beautiful, and well arranged. There's not too many of any one ingredient, and you can tell whoever put it together eats salads themselves and cares about what they are doing. If I lived closer, I'd go there for a salad at lunch with nothing else... the two salads I have had the pleasure of eating here could be two of the best I've had anywhere (my house included).
I bake on the weekends as a hobby, so any place that claims to offer REAL bread must subject themselves to my silent scrutiny. I've only had good bread at two places in North Carolina... and this is one. I believe they bake it in their brick oven. It has a phenomenal crust that could only be sourdough, but the flavor of the bread isn't the overpowering sour flavor you might expect. I didn't even notice it until several pieces in. Any real baking book will tell you that just because bread is leavened (risen) using sourdough rather than commercial yeast doesn't mean it has to taste sour! They pair this half loaf with enough olive oil to bathe in... and you'll want to if there is any left over. It had herbs and maybe a little garlic and went perfectly with the bread. A lot of chain restaurants offer bread for free... but that crap is always factory-made fake bread. This is real bread made in the restaurant, and the olive oil alone made that $2.50 appetizer worth the money.
As a main course, my wife ordered some sort of pesto pasta with blackened chicken. I make pesto at home every summer, so I am a little picky about real, fresh pesto vs commercial pesto... this was an excellent dish. She would only let me have a small bite, but that little taste honestly made me think about fighting her for more... it was a creamy alfredo pesto sauce that lightly coated the linguine. It wasn't so heavy that you felt guilty eating it, but it was so good I would definitely try it as my main dish the next time we return. The tiny morsel of blackened chicken she offered me was cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of spice for what I like in blackened chicken. She enjoyed it so much she wouldn't even touch the pizza I ordered for us to share.
Several others here have touched on their pizza. Between my first visit and my meal last night, we have had two of their house pizzas. I enjoyed them both and would classify them as excellent pizza. I'm a bit of a pizza whore and rarely have I met a pie I didn't love... so I won't waste much more of your time describing what others have already written.
We could have stopped after the pizza and pasta, but we saw on their menu they claim to have a pastry/dessert chef. My wife saw peanut butter pie on an oreo crust, so we signed up for a slice. This isn't the stuff my sister makes at thanksgiving... this was delicious. I'm not normally a fan of peanut butter, but I had half the piece eaten before I let my wife even taste it. Not only was it delicious, but it was well-presented on the plate with real whipped cream. It was the perfect end to a wonderful meal experience.
Oh, and before I forget... the coffee we had with our dessert was something special as well. My wife said it was something local, and it was no disappointment. Had it not been 9PM, we probably would have gotten a refill of an already generous sized cup. Get this if you get dessert. Hell, get it if you just like real coffee.
If you've made it this far in my review, go ahead and make plans to eat here. You're obviously serious about good food, and this restaurant would be hugely popular were it in any other larger city. I love the fact that it's hidden in Black Mountain... it's probably the only restaurant of its caliber without a wait the two times we have been. As I said at the beginning, I don't normally post on this site (thought I do read quite often)... the fact that I have taken the time to write this should attest to my affection for this restaurant. I hope they are around at least as long as I am, because we will be eagerly returning on a regular basis in the future.
Really good wood-oven fired pizza. We had a very nice lunch here. The pizza is the real deal. A crispy crust, fresh, mostly local toppings. Flavorful and ample. We split a good Greek salad, too, and had a local draft beer- a porter that went great with the pizza. AND they made an impromptu birthday cake for my son (not really, but they stuck a candle in the chocolate torte and sang. It was thoughtful!). It's worth a trip from Asheville for a good lunch, and a walk through the overly cutesy town of Black Mountain.
Incredible pizza crafted and served by great people. If you crave quality food served with a smile, FRESH is for you! The pizza is truly authentic and delicious. The salads are big and fresh. The people are friendly and passionate about crafting good eats with the best possible ingredients. I LOVE the Chica Bella pizza and appreciate that I can get it with a gluten free crust. FRESH is a shining gem in Back Mountain!
Hands down best pizza ever.. Ok seriously we just had the best pizza we have ever had. I can't believe that we would ever eat pear on a pizza but let me tell you it was awesome! We were so full but we kept eating because the food was so good. The salads were HUGE and the beer cold. The owner was very nice and you get to watch him spin pizza right in front of the oven. Everyone was very nice and very helpful. We can't wait to go back.
Excellent and refreshing! We've eaten at FRESH several times, and it is wonderful! Great pizza and salad combo deals on certain nights.
Terrific. This place has the best pizza outside of Italy and has great service. It actually inspired me to make this account just to review it. It also has great lemonade and sandwiches.
Great Pizza. I've lived near Black Mountain for four years and this is hands down one of the best pizza places I've been to in this area of Western NC. The name speaks for itself -- everything is fresh, and local. They serve local brews and use local farms for their ingredients. What's not to love? The only negative was that our service wasn't the best (didn't bring more crustinis like we asked, took a while to get drinks, no plates for appetizers), but we think the guy was new, so no harm, just on a learning curve. The other staff helped us out so it was all good. If you want to see authentic Black Mountain (laid back atmosphere, friendly people) and try some awesome pizza made with local ingredients, you'll find it here.
Incredible. This is far and away the best pizza in Black Mountain, maybe the best in the area.
The moment you walk in the door you are greeted with the smell of roasting garlic and pizza. The pizza crust is very nice, crispy bottom but still very light. Overall the quality of the pizza exceeded my expectations.
I highly recommend Fresh Wood Fired Pizza and will be back often.
I haven't had pizza this amazing in years! As a pizza enthusiast, I was thrilled with the incredibly fresh and tasty dough, along with the perfectly combined and fresh ingredients. This was truly the most delicious and fresh pizza I've ever had. The service was excellent, with a friendly waitress and a fantastic atmosphere. The location in Black Mountain is truly special. Highly recommended!
Ordered some take out from there while on vacation. Was absolutely spectacular. That bbq pizza was amazing. If they have the tiramisu while you are there it is a must try it was fantastic. Recommend this place to anyone!
Stopped in on a Friday evening. If you can't find parking in front, there's a parking lot around back.
The employees were super friendly even though it was pretty busy.
I ordered the Scarface pizza which was fantastic. I really liked the crust. Really enjoyed the vibe of the place. I'll definitely return again.
The tomato basil soup was the best I’ve had. The pizzas were perfection too! Highly recommend the Scarface and the BBQ pizzas. Chef’s kiss!
Food: Scarface pizza was very good. Would order again. Good flavor. All pizzas look to be 12" and $17.
Service: server was friendly and attentive.
Atmosphere: Nothing special. It's a little small for the amount of business they are doing. To be fair, they have outdoor seating that was not in use the night we were there because it was cool outside.
Parking: There is a little parking near the door. Some additional parking is available behind the restaurant.
Great food and great service.
The gluten feee pizza was delicious though I’m not sure how Celiac safe it is. I didn’t have a gluten reaction but sometimes I don’t even when I’ve accidentally had a bit of gluten. They have tons of pizza options and even a kids sized pizza that my daughter loved.
Bottom line, the food was delicious and I highly recommend!
There was no place to park but it was only a short walk from our hotel!
The outdoor seating was nice and the employees were super friendly even with it being busy!
We got the fettuccine Alfredo, it was very well seasoned and came with some delicious bread! We also got a pepperoni pizza and really liked that the crust was soft.
Definitely recommend!
First time here very nice outdoors area. Great service from Ashley. Pizzas were 4.5. bean soup 1, appetizers 3. Limited micro beer selection. Recommend for pizza.
Always delicious! Always plenty of food for the price! Always good service!! Fun local vibe…
I love their Fun Guy Pizza (especially with added charred broccoli & fennel sausage) and their Caesar Salad. It’s always a great to see their Lamb Gyro on the specials board. 😛
We went here for the first time and everything was so fresh! The pizza dough was excellent and the cheese was so tasty. Service was excellent and we were served fast. Thank you for being open on Labor day!
Pizza was amazing and super fresh tasting. We had the Rose's with pepperoni, and it's one of the best pizzas I've had in a while. Beer was really cold and crisp too. Will definitely be returning!
Amazing pizza, you can tell it's made with love! Make sure to get the garlic olive oil and dip your pizza crust in it!
Incredible food. We can’t think of much better pizza we’ve had. The house made lemonade was shockingly phenomenal. The wait staff was very friendly and thoughtful regarding our toddler. All around great experience, accompanied by a guy hand chopping the wood for the oven in the back.
We arrived with a party of 8 at 7 PM, we were seated in 22 minutes. Our server was so friendly! She didn’t mind our kids or big party. She guided us through the beer selection. We enjoyed all the pizzas! Bayou. Blue. Cheese. And fun guy (add chicken). We also had the anti-pasta appetizer which was delicious. The spinach and artichoke dip is also good. We would recommend this place to any pizza lover!
Yum, yum and yum. We waited 20 minutes for a table on a Friday night and it was worth it. Our waitress was professional and we had great service even though she was busy. I ordered pizza and an entre to make sure I had leftovers. Salad had zero iceberg lettuce just the way I like it. Homemade dressings are hard to choose because they all sound great. Pasta had my taste buds working overtime. Fabulous! Pizza was a little undercooked but still fabulous.
Amazing pizza... very light dough and fresh ingredients... plus the wood fire is always a plus...
My wife and I ate pizza here on October 15, 2023. We ordered the "Scarface" which included Italian sausage, pepperoni and salami. It was super! The wood-fired oven baked crust was perfect. This was the first time we dined at this pizza place and highly recommend it.
Hands down our favorite pizza place anywhere around. We travel over an hour to visit and always make it over to Fresh anytime we are hiking in the area. Love their fresh salads and pizza. We enjoyed the scarface pizza, fresh baked bread with garlic & herb olive oil, and tuscan/Greek salads. I can't tell you how many times I've been here, and I'll be back many more times. Oh and don't forget to get the pizza punch card, buy 9 and get the 10th free!
Delicious pizza! The wood fired crust was perfect and the cheese was really good! And service was fast!
