If you’re looking for some good food with live entertainment, then come to Calhouns.
Food: The food was good and they had a variety of choices from seafood to steak. We had a steak, the shrimp appetizer, the fried green tomatoes, and the crab stuffed flounder. The crab stuffed flounder was very delicious and flavorful. They give pretty decent portions as well.
Atmosphere: They have indoor and outdoor seating. There was live entertainment when we went on a Saturday night! There is also bar seating inside. Overall, the service could’ve been better. I think they may have been understaffed when we went as our waiter was not the most attentive and service was very slow.
Price: The price of the food is normal for what you get.
Parking: There is street parking available everywhere if you come earlier or if you stay downtown, you can easily walk to here.
We went on a Sunday evening around 7:30 and was able to get right in (rainy evening too). I enjoyed my drink (Classic bourbon), husband had draft beer, and our son had a soft drink. We ordered fried green tomatoes (delicious). I ordered the Lowcountry Shrimp & Grits (delicious, not the sausage though). I loved the shrimp and grits but the sausage had a strange taste (too smoky? my husband said). My son ordered the Blackened Atlantic Salmon which I tried and it was delicious. My husband ordered the Mahi Mahi Sandwhich which he loved. I gave it 4 stars because of the sausage. Kasey was awesome, in fact I called to make sure of the menu choices and she was very delightful and turned out to be our server. I was able to compliment her in person and told her how I loved how welcoming and nice she was when I called there earlier. Overall we had a great experience so I was surprised to see the bad reviews this evening.
Overall really enjoyed our visit. Food was very good with just enough to eat. Service was good but took a few minutes to get to us. Small venue but beautiful inside. Outside they had loud live music but really couldn’t hear it inside. Prime rib sandwich was excellent and good serving of coleslaw. My wife had the turkey sandwich with potatoes and it was excellent.
Great food, great staff (Sara), and great atmosphere!!! Very enjoyable dining experience.
We sat outside. The weather was perfect. And the band was good.
Even though they were short handed, Sara did a great job checking on us and getting our order out quickly. And food was delicious.
The Crab Stuffed Flounder is the best!!!
It was a fun experience!
Good food. Nice atmosphere. Great location
This place was recommended to us so we decided to stop for dinner monday night on our way home to Charleston from our weekend in HHI and we almost didn't even stay to eat. After waiting about 5 minutes at the host stand in an empty room (all the guests were dining outside), the bartender (didn't get a name, red hair) came and sat us outside as well, but seemed completely inconvenienced and was EXTREMELY rude about it, to the point that we almost said forget it and walked out. Luckily our server Taylor was in a much better mood and was very nice and helpful. We had chicken and waffles and a shrimp burger. The chicken and waffles was good but very small (Taylor even said that it was not normally that sad looking), and there was a spice in the shrimp burger that I did not care for and it was all I could taste. I wish I had gone with the prime rib dip. Potatoes were very good and he enjoyed his cheesy grits as well. I think now that we know where the area is (very cute little neighborhood setting), we'll opt to try some of the other places available on the way home next time.
Great food. Great live music. Very busy the day and time we went so we had to wait at the bar for a table. I asked for the salmon to be extra crispy and I think they mixed it up and made my grilled veggies extra crispy (charred actually) but they were still quite delicious anyway! I’ve been here several times in the past few years but hadn’t posted a review yet. Love this place, would recommend. I even got to play a few songs on the drums with the band. 😊
The food and atmosphere were awesome. We had a great time visiting old Town. I would however like to give a suggestion the sausage in the shrimp and grits is to spicy and believe you should revisit this. The sausage is a idea for this dish I just believe it shouldn't be as spicy. The rest of our meal was fanatic. Thank you for a memorable meal!❤️❤️❤️
Food was great (I had the blackened salmon and my wife had the shrimp and grits). The creamed collards we’re a pleasant surprise and I highly recommend them. Nice pub-like atmosphere plus and outdoor dining space.
Lynda the waitress served us outdoors! She is phenomenal! So fun and so sweet! Treated our dog well too!! Excellent food and the best Amaretto sour with egg whites!
Great atmosphere and very friendly service! This restaurant is location right in the middle of Old Town Bluffton which is a super cool square of restaurants and other businesses. We were warmly greeted when we walked in and our service was impeccable throughout the evening. It was still happy hour so we each ordered drinks and took our time going over the tasty look dinner menu. We both went with the double cheeseburger for dinner and they were cooked perfectly and had really great flavor. They had great sides to choose from to go along with burgers and we ended up with cheesy grits and tavern potatoes. We had such a great experience eating here and can’t wait to come back!
Food and service was excellent! Want to commend our bartender RJ for the excellent service he provided. Will definitely be back with family. Thank you RJ for your excellent service! Took family and friends Saturday and Our favorite Bartender RJ took excellent care of our party. Everyone enjoyed the food and the atmosphere and also the excellent service RJ provided. Will definitely be back again
Great place, all the food was fabulous and patio outside is really nice. Loved the fried green tomatoes!!!! The chicken sandwich was also excellent and the pimento cheese dip was really great.
What a cool place to go! One of the great local bars that are hard to find, but worth the search. Great food, great service, great location.
Allie was my server and she was very knowledgeable about the menu and her service was probably the best i’ve ever had, however it dosen’t seem like management cares about table service because she was the only one and the place was full…. hopefully this isn’t there normal procedure
After yelping the local area, I went to Calhoun’s because it didn’t seem like the usual Hilton Head tourist trap. This was everything I needed after a long day of travel. I also saw pictures of some pretty delicious looking burgers. So I went in. I immediately saw the large wall of whiskeys behind the bar. What a selection! I knew I came to the right place.
I had a prime rib melt and the key lime pie. After a nice talk with the bartender, my food came out surprisingly quick. It was better than I expected. The meat was juicy and so flavorful I almost didn’t use any of the horseradish creme or au jus that came with it. I did try some of each on the last few bites though. Both were good, but the sandwich just didn’t need it. I had some of their house slaw for my side. I love good cole slaw. This was damn good cole slaw. The key lime pie was a nice touch to top off the night. I will definitely eat here again during this trip.
