Swings, ice cream and art. Yes please. Every single thing is made in house using their own base. Milk, eggs, cream, sugar, and they have plenty of vegan options as well! My ice cream was so creamy. I tried several flavors and the guy who waited on us was so helpful. Will definitely be back. So happy to have found this gem.
The ice cream sandwiches are truly spectacular! This small creamery knows what they are doing when it comes to high quality ice cream, and I was even more impressed with their oven fresh cookies that formed my ice cream sandwich. I normally stick to just scoops of ice cream when at a creamery, but the opportunity to have still warm cookies form an ice cream sandwich was impossible to pass up. I landed on their honey milk ice cream and chocolate chip cookies. The honey milk was an excellent balance of sweet and creamy, which was perfectly paired with gooey chocolate chips. I'd absolutely recommend coming on Sunday to take advantage of their $4 ice cream sandwich deal because it's a total steal! With more warm weather ahead I'd highly recommend this creamery to all those in Boulder looking for a cold tasty treat!
I arrived in Boulder for a business trip and, never having been to Boulder before, had no idea of where to go for food. To top it off, it was Memorial Day and most of the restaurants were closed in observance. I had a couple of local food and attraction maps, and they both pointed out Heifer and the Hen. The website mentioned a $4 milkshake special, which was all the prompting I needed. I settled on a Burnt Honey milkshake - my first time having both vanilla and honey in a milkshake, and it was excellent. Looking forward to my next visit!
Just like many unassuming places, Heifer and Hen is tucked away on a strip along Arapahoe. Except, the Ice cream Parlour is anything but. As you step into the Shop you are greeted by friendly staff in a warm rustic environment. Their menu is hand-written on butcher paper showcasing their signature and seasonal flavors. Of the many places you can grab a frozen treat, (Glaciers, Sweet Cow, Ben & Jerry's, etc) Heifer and Hen stands out as one of the best in terms of their unique flavors. From burnt honey and squid ink with lemon to blackberry tamarind, their Ice cream goes beyond the basic palate of cookie dough or rocky road. Truly an exceptional experience, I don't think I'll be going to any other Ice cream in Boulder.
Delicious ice cream with a great variety of flavors including classics and fun interesting choices. Even a couple coconut choices for non dairy folks. Interesting cream sandwiches and milk shakes. Cute colorful and simple... Some swing chairs.
We came here for my wife’s 50th birthday and had an incredible experience! They had the most delicious and creative flavors we had difficulty deciding and stop tasting the incredibly tasty and naturally flavored ice creams! A very impressive business mode as well! All local. All hand made. A 1 man store. All metal spoons for tasting. Compostable cups. And swings!! Are you an eco loving, local business supporter, home made foodie who loves creative and delicious food? This is the place for you!! We had the best time!
This is in my top two ice cream stores in the USA. I don't know if it's #1 or #2... for me it's between this place and The Golden Cow in Charlotte North Carolina. Interestingly, the owner of that establishment was from Boulder. I'm off topic though, the white chocolate strawberry cheesecake milk shake was out of this world.
Love this kooky and creative ice cream shop! A great mix of kid-friendly flavors, but with the added addition of some less sweet, more sophisticated things to try as well. Plus, the brilliant idea of ice cream flights - five tiny scoops so you can have several of your favorites without busting a gut! Also, the ice cream sandwiches are a decadent, portable treat. I'm not a vegan but I love their toasted coconut (coconut milk base) so much! I have nothing against Sweet Cow, but this place is honestly better.
