Sometimes I still dream about the pancakes here - just the right balance of soft fluffiness to golden crispiness, and lightly soaked in syrup and butter! Strong contender for best pancakes I’ve had in New York! Accompanying dishes are new American style with focus on ingredients. Gets busy during weekend brunch so reservations are best!
Partner and I have been to a lot of solid restaurants, this is without a doubt in our top three of all time. The pancakes are the best you’ll ever have but don’t let that stop you from exploring the rest of the menu because everything we’ve tried is exceptional (the only thing that’s remotely mediocre is their black coffee). Absolutely make a reservation ahead for brunch unless you want to wait multiple hours. We go out of our way to visit every time we’re in NY and it has not disappointed!
We’ve been meaning to visit this spot for a while now and we finally did on a rainy Sunday for brunch. We were able to walk in and sit at the bar, which was lovely.
The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a nice quaint vibe. The staff were all friendly and the food was good. I think everything we ate was a little on the richer side so it wasn’t my absolute favorite food ever but I’d love to go back for dinner or brunch again and try more of the menu.
We got:
The pancakes (duh) - fluffy and crunchy but rich. Would recommend eating quickly to retain the crunch
The breakfast sandwich - also rich and a little difficult to eat. The artichoke heart was a delicious touch
Smoked trout dip - on the lighter side but still rich. The cracker was amazing
Will update when we return for dinner 🫡
This was a genuine 5-star experience with all the freshness you could expect from a summer brunch. The restaurant's decor was bright and cozy with ambient sunlight peeking in. The food was light yet filling at the same time, with the pancakes having the perfect balance of crisp first-bites and satisfying fluffy flavor. The quiche was soft and easy to get into, each layer was distinct yet crafted a cohesive flavorful experience. The fresh juices were refreshing and the staff welcoming and friendly. Overall, could not have had a better start to the morning than with our brunch here. I will say the location is a bit far from the nearest subway station, but well worth the walk in every aspect.
We had a terrific early dinner (as soon as they opened) with cocktails, wine, and food. Everything was delicious! Service was excellent. Cute/comfortable space.
From the first bite, I knew these were going to be the best pancakes I’ve eaten. Nothing else comes close. The pancakes taste almost deep-fried, like those donuts with a sturdy shell, full of flavors from browning. Even though there’s no visible liquid on the plate, the pancakes feel saturated with butter and syrup, sweet but not too sweet. It was extremely rich and cloying. Yet, I wanted every last bit. Coffee helps.
Chez Ma Tante has been around for six years, so I’m late to the party, but this feels innovative and boundary-pushing without being gimmicky. I never would have imagined pancakes like these based on the ones I’ve eaten in the past. It takes knowledge and creativity to *invent* something like this. Hopefully this style of pancake fully takes off and appears across the globe.
The best brunch spot in NYC. Everything is delicious, we always get the pancakes, chips with aioli and Caesar salad. The pancakes are so unique, they are crispy on the outside and somehow completely soaked through with syrup and butter. Also worth a stop for dinner where you can cap off a lovely meal with their beautiful lemon tart.
Magnificent! :) that’s the word my husband said after we had the last bite of our brunch here. We keep coming back. It’s worth the trip from the city! The menu is unique, you won’t find these dishes anywhere else. Even the simplest of dishes like the sunny side eggs over the roasted tomatoes - mmmm it transported me somewhere to the farm where the cows mooing in the horizon. And of course the pancakes are just out of this world. Crispy enough yet soft. Can’t say enough about this place. Thank you🙏🏻
Cool and chill place for brunch. We came here and found out this is quite a surprise with good food, friendly people and chill vibe. The pancake is exceptional! Must order!
Contender for best pancakes in the city, certainly some of the most instagrammable. French canadian seems to be their jam. Their other dishes are pretty great too, i loved the pigs head terrine. Also had an interesting english muffin with smoked trout roe. Be prepared for a wait if you don’t have a reservation, most notably during weekend brunch hours.
