Small, not fancy, great stuff. It looks like a hole in the wall - mostly 'cause it is, but the food combines the flavors and preparation techniques of Jamaica with the sides and portions of Alabama. We had the Smothered Turkey (roasted w/ gravy) with sides of baked stuffing and okra with tomatoes. We also had the Ox Tail with mac & cheese and collard greens. The meat was soft and succulent; the vegetables were perfect, and the stuffing and mac & cheese were done just right. Bring wet-naps and have an excellent lunch or dinner.
Ms.. Soul Spot hit the spot for me. Their baked fried catfish, yams, collard greens, ox tails, potato salad and especially the to die for peach cobbler pie, absolutely out of this world, I had such a taste for sould food and this place really hit the spot. The food is fresh, delicisous and simply outstanding.
Stick to the Basics. And you will be rewarded in spades. The fried chicken is, I have to say, pretty ethereal. The collards vinegary and spicy, and the mac and cheese is really something to be celebrated. The baked stuffing is weird, I would stay away from it. Can't wait to try the okra with stewed tomatoes.
Very prompt delivery, even in terrible weather.
Mmmmm... chicken and dumplings, macaroni and cheese, collard greens. This soul food restaurant is one of Brooklyn's best! I am pretty sure one of the meals (a main and two sides, $9.50-$10.50) can feed two normal-sized people.
This place is AMAZING. First and foremost food is halal! Restaurants diversifying halal cuisines in NYC are always welcome !
They have a huge hot display of a variety of classic Caribbean/ southern soul remixes. I ordered chicken 2 ways and my cousin ordered the fried chicken. The chicken was succulent and flavorful while maintaining juiciness! The sides (Mac and cheese , tostinas, okra) were filling and well made as well.
My only complaint is I receive the same type of chicken when I ordered two different types. š¢
Would love to see this expand as a restaurant for family dining.
I ordered delivery on doordash and got the ox tail lunch special, boy was I struggling at work after that meal. I thought I would have enough for later there was so much but I lack self control and finished it, there might have been 2 drops of gravy left. I think the portion of meat is fantastic, I don't know other places that give this much meat over the sides. But the flavor, absolutely delicious and satisfying. I know you can't see it but this is how you do Mac and cheese, I'll probably order a side of that as well. Will definitely be ordering/visiting again!
If youāre one of those people who donāt like your food to touch then this spot aināt for you because they lay the portions on you which I donāt mind at all š Iām super skeptical on restaurants claiming āsoul foodā above the Mason-Dixon Line and since moving to NY trying these āsoul foodā spots just to get a taste of back home has been trash šļø However The Soul Spot is my new go to whenever Iām in BK. The Mac n cheese is delicious and thank God itās not flavorless and watery like these other places. The baked chicken was good and falling off the bone and it comes with the cornbread. Definitely hit this spot again soon with the fam
Youād be foolish to not give this place a try. Food, service, and the whole experience was exactly what we were looking for. The meat and chicken were just falling off the bone, and all the sides were full of flavor. Portions are perfect too! š
The cuisine was amazing! The personnel was really welcoming, especially when it came to their portionsāalways a plus. I ordered the fried chicken, green beans, and mac & cheese. Everything was delicious: the chicken was juicy, the green beans had flavor, and the mac n cheese was creamy! offered us a complimentary piece of cornbread as well:) I'm bookmarking this to my "Must Come Back List" because I like it so much!
My family and I ate at Soul Spot while celebrating my sister's birthday and we weren't disappointed.
The ladies gave great customer service and the food was sooo good. The space was a lil small but the flavors are big!
Both the staff and the meal were excellent. But I think real shrimp are better than what they sell. They do provide a large selection of cuisine and have decent flavors. If you're in Downtown Brooklyn and want to grab a bite to eat, I highly recommend them. But sometimes, they might not have what you're looking for. It's unfortunate that stew chicken isn't always available, but nevertheless check them out.
The one and only halal Southern soul food & Caribbean spot in Brooklyn. Soul Spotās serving size and its fall off the bone tender deliciousness has everyone coming back for more. From the moment you walk in the aroma hits you right away. From the oxtail, jerk chicken and bbq beef ribs everything was super succulent and very tender. Their candied yams had the perfect amount of sweetness. So many sides to choose from. Had to get their baked mac and cheese, sweet corn and mashed potatoes. The plating was A1. Canāt forget their corn bread with a side of their homemade ice teas! Iām telling yāall you can taste the love in each bite!
An excellent place to have halal soul food. Never let me down. The cuisine is a hit with everyone I bring here. Restricted seating; not suitable for seated meals. The perfect spot for takeout.
My graduation celebration was catered by The Soul Spot, and the food was delicious! Everyone was inquiring about the location of the brick and mortar store and the whereabouts of the food! The food truly made the party! Everything about the process was fun. The ordering and delivery processes were both pleasurable. Relentlessly prompt and incredibly kind! I'm grateful.
I've been ordering from Soul Spot for over 20 years ... They never disappoint. We love their salmon, baked or jerk chicken and all of their sides. If you're vegan/vegetarian you can order 4 sides as a veggie platter. When comfort food is necessary, come here! Also, if you are lucky enough to grab a carrot or red velvet cake before they run out you're in luck!
It is a really good food spot, the service is al so good and the food is amazing, I highly recommend this place for great wholesome homely soul food, I had ordered rice with beans, sweet potatoes with ox tails which was so sweet š¤¤ and delicious reminded me of home back in the UK. I also ordered BBQ chick which was so nice and everything is halal which is even better. The portions are very generous and the fruit punch is so sweet and refreshing, this place is a 10/10
The food was incrediblee! The staff were super friendly, especially with their portions (always a plus). I got the mac n cheese, green beans, and fried chicken. It was all so preferect, mac n cheese was creamy, tastey green beans, and the chicken was juiccyy! Also gave us a free piece of cornbread :) Loved it so much here, adding this to my "Must Come Back List"!
The food is very tasty. Better to find a soul food place that serves halal meat. I love baked stuffing. I prefer savory filling to sweet, so if you can make a savory filling as well, that would be great. Thanks for the excellent service.
The place was very clean, food was fresh and warm. Tasted very much like home cooked meals. Portions were huge and and definitely have 2 meals out of it. We ordered the fried , jerked, and currid chicken, and whiting fish. They all came with 2 delicious sides and were all excellent. Mac & cheese, string beans, and collard greens are a must try. Thanks for the lovely meal. My whole family enjoyed the food.
Highly recommended
Iāve had quite a few soul food spots here in New York City, and this has been the best one so far! Every bit of the plate you could taste the love and care that went into the food, and thatās the most important ingredient in soul food, love! This food is also halal and contains no pork which makes it accessible to the Islamic community. Iām a chef from Kentucky so I know soul food when I see it, and this place embodies that taste! The yams tasted like candy bathed in butter, yet I could tell there wasnāt an unhealthy amount of sugar added to them, AMAZING! The curry goat was succulent and tender yet well flavors. The Mac and cheese, yāall the MAC AND CHEESE, was to die for. Best Mac and cheese Iāve had up here and closest to what I enjoy from home. The only dish I wasnāt too fond of was the peach cobbler, and really only because I make mine with more peaches and less crust.
Fantastic, flavorful, and delectable food. I had them cater my wedding since I adore the food so much! Chef Ceesay and his crew were amazing, and the food was delicious. The Soul Spot is a great choice for your upcoming event or for a quick lunch!
