We stopped here for a quick lunch while biking and had a great meal. The chicken was tender, the sauce was homemade, and our favorite side was the stewed tomatoes and okra. Besides the food, my favorite part of the experience was the great advice posted all over the walls. Mitchell’s is part diner and part art museum with its well-curated and thought-provoking walls. We’ll definitely come back.
This is a traditional, cute little place in Prospect Heights. The inside is cozy and the service was approachable and authentic. The food was not stellar, but it was made with care and had that house made touch that comforts you. Highlight of my meal was the sweet potato pie slice. It also tasted like a grandma recipe kind of pie, and the spices and texture were just on point.
Very nice, cosy, little restaurant where the soul food is delicious!!! I was 25 years ago in New York and wanted to taste the corn bread and fried chicken again. We couldn't have made a better choice with Mitchell's soul food!!! The flavours are very good, the atmosphere very relaxed, the restaurant small and simple but nicely decorated. But above all the 'mama' was very friendly. We loved it and definitely will go back!
Nice, Laid-back and not pretentious place to eat. The mashed yams, Mac n cheese, and corn bread are really tasty. The baked fish was good. They were nice and when we had questions about ingredients, they were cool. And the prices are very reasonable.
Came here from Baltimore. Looked a soul food place up while visiting the Book of Hov. After a short walk, arrived and omg the food was amazing and I’m quite sure. i have the itis
Hello all!! Now this is a cute little spot and it really does it for the culture! The food was delicious, and served HOTT (cooked fresh), not too many places to sit and the one waitress they have is very firm and not one to have too much patience, you better know what you want. Also, they ONLY TAKES CASH!!!! Mr.Mitchell is not too friendly either….I guess that’s him who takes the payments but I guess you can say he’s just an older man who don’t play games or has to be friendly he just want the business. Overall, enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Would go back again!
They have very good hospitality, the tea was good, beef ribs was good, fried whiting were great. They play good music, clean restrooms although not to spacious. I would recommend people to eat here. Great Job to Mitchell’s restaurant and staff.
The dinner menu may look a little pricey for a small restaurant such as this but it is totally worth the value and easily can be shared. The classic fried chicken with white meat was moist and had just enough flavor. The okra and corn was cooked very well and I wished I had ordered two as my sides but alas I didn't go wrong by ordering the cornbread (sweet). The venue has seating in the front and in the back with a small tour of the kitchen as u walk through.

We were greeted by a lady who was happy to see us. Quickly ordered 2 sandwiches- pork chop and catfish for take away. Both sandwiches were really good, fresh and homemade.

Good humble food. If u r starving, they serve a healthy size of meal. Service is straightforward and unpretentious. If u r lucky enough like me, u could have a free pound cake and hear the madame of the cafe belt out some good vocals together with the tunes on the radio! I gave 4 stars cos it is cash only! #buyblack

I’m from Mississippi and had to try this place out. The collard greens were ON POINT! Would definitely go back but next time I want to try the fried chicken instead of the catfish. Also, they are CASH ONLYYYYY!! I wish they put a sign on the entrance because I completely missed the sign that was behind the register since I was deep in the menu. :)
Divine! The fried pork chop was just how my mom and grandmother makes it. The cornbread was neither too sweet nor too savory. The red beans and ham! Goodness gracious! Needless to say, I will be going back.
