An unexpected encounter. A warm pleasant French cafe. I like the music and friendly staff Briana. The lemon honey tea tastes good
Absolutely delicious spot. Just happened upon here and it was delightful. The nice blonde waitress was great, food came out quickly and was so yummy.
I got the farm salad and the vegan cheesecake.
I really loved the Cafe!
Delicious food, beautiful and cozy place and great service.
They don't take reservations, so you need to get there early.
The dishes were delicious, but the baked eggs with salmon could have more salmon.
Really great atmosphere, feels like a tucked away part of Dumbo. I like the people inside less. Attracts some scene-y Brooklyn people which kind of kills french vibe. The waitstaff is a bit apathetic. But the food there is SO fresh and vibrant. I've gotten Fruit Salad with Mint, Avocado Toast, Le Pain with some cappuccinos. I have no bad marks on any of them. Left feeling full and not weighed down.
Lovely little cafe in Brooklyn. Nice selection of pastries and food menu. I had the cous cous which was absolutely delicious! We also had the chicken baguette which my daughters loved, as well as the avocado toast. A hidden gem in my mind!
What. A. Find. Hard to know really where to start as I'm so in awe of this little gem.
First of all, I've only been once so far (going back day after writing this review).
As you can see it's a small boutique style Café. Feels very French, the decor, food and therefore all up ambience. The service however was very American, as in good!!! Friendly, helpful and just a joy.
The food was fantastic, I had the veggie burger that was homemade with quinoa as opposed to a Beyond meat style burger. I have time for both but this was delicious. The side salad was complimented with the most amazing dressing. The options for vegan and vegetarian dishes are plentiful.
A great place to spend a brunch, lunch or dinner and I am very much looking forward to sampling as much of the menu as I can.

Went there on 12 March, 2023 at 7:15pm ish. The cafe is pretty close to the Dumbo -Manhattan bridge view.
We laughed pretty hard at the mix of french and english on the menu, specifically “Le pain” (we know its bread but still). I ordered the chia pudding and it lived up to expectations. Fruit was fresh and pudding was solid.
The coffee comes with a piece of Belgium chocolate and came really quick and if you order the hot chocolate it comes with a cute paw print on top
I have to point out that our server, Frida , was excellent and definitely deserved a big tip (though to be fair we didn’t buy much so 30% probably wasn’t too much). She was very snarky and livened up our night but to a controlled amount so we can still enjoy our conversations amongst ourselves. For example, when we asked for a napkin, she joked and said “no” when heading to grab it and she also helpfully informed us that the only difference between a flat white and a latte is the rate that milk was added (and that it sounds more french and posh so that fit the theme).
The restaurant is also welcome to birthday celebrations, being willing to help out with the box and light the candles (I think? The table having a birthday celebration was a little far from us) so that was cool. If you ask them you get the wifi as well.
p.s. The bathroom cuts the clearance (between the door and the sink) REALLY close so it scared me a little but that was pretty interesting and quirky so do check that out.
The only thing bad I guess would be that the food wasn’t extraordinary. It will definitely meet your standards but it isn’t on the level of “cafes you must try in NY”. But if you want to stop by somewhere when nearby, do check out this cafe
TL;DR Decent food, cool waitress, cool hangout spot
Hands down my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. Cafe Gitane is a quiet, tucked away gem in the Vinegar Hill / Dumbo neighborhood with the friendliest people and most delish food! One thing to not be overlooked… they make a perfect foamy cappuccino! This restaurant transports me to Europe and it’s my favorite place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Can’t recommend them enough!
All these years later Gitane is still a favorite. The menu hasn't changed in the best way possible. The atmosphere at this Vinegar Hill location is really peaceful and beautiful. Staff are always attentive. I've been going to the Gitane in Nolita since I worked around the corner in 2004--- a real gem. A favorite and super nostalgic for me.
Cafe gitane is a French Parisian inspired Cafe offering French and American food. The service was very good I went very early in the morning the wait staff was very attentive the music was great the seating arrangements was fine overall aesthetic perfect for close casual get-togethers.
Pros: I really love how this place pays close attention to detail and all the food that was served to me the cappuccino was made fresh to order the cafe mocha had a really cool design on it I got a piece of chocolate along with my beverage I thought that small detail just made all the difference and I really enjoyed my experience.the cafe has a very intimate setting the wait staff is very nice and attentive the selection of food provides a lot of variety mostly small plants like salad sandwiches soups and breakfast foods it's a really good place to come to unwine.
Cons: the serving portion would be considered small for someone who is looking to have a full course meal but if you like small plates or you looking to have just an in-between meal or simply to have brunch this place will be a good option.
