Best muffins this side of the GWB!. I walked into this bakery, after hearing much about it from my friends. I as a cyclist am a loyal runcible spoon muffinist. However, on this cold and snowy winter day I rode my bike on over to 5th ave in park slope and had to give them a try. Wow, blue sky may not have the selection that the spoon does but their muffins were still steaming when I bit into it! I became an instant fan.

The muffins in this quaint little neighbourhood spot are everything that I imagine the person who invented muffins (god bless ‘em) had hoped and dreamed they’d be: Light and flavoursome and moist, with a perfect domed top made crispy with just the right amont of sugar. There was an array of tempting flavours on offer (zucchini chocolate chip, blueberry and sweet plum) but I opted for the pumpkin, apple, and walnut variety and was not disappointed. Neither too sweet nor overly spiced, the muffin was filled with chunks of the softest baked apple and studded with walnuts throughout. When paired with a cup of the double strength iced coffee, I still couldn’t work out whether it made for a healthy breakfast. Quite frankly, I didn’t care.

I have to say that just reading the labels on the box, you could see that they were made with quite a lot of creativity: they were not your regular chocolate chip or corn muffins! It reminded me of Cupcake wars on the Food Network where 4 bakeries compete to win $10,000; most of the time, the ingredients they have to compose with are unusual and the competitors come up, most of the time, with great ideas! So I decided to try two of them and cut them in half. I first went for the zucchini, cranberry and cream cheese.  It was very intriguing: would it have the taste of zucchini? In fact it did not! But I gue
