First time visiting the place. Heard nothing but great things about the food. I really enjoyed our time there. The artichoke appetizer was very good. The Top Sirloin was grilled a perfect medium rare. The pork ribs were good. Not fall off the bone style but very meaty and good flavor. A very good experience.
This is an amazing place. Took my 2 friends there for their bdays. We started with the garlic n bruschetta and that was beyond delicious. Then 2 of us had ny sirloin steaks n the other had fish. We all loved our food. Came with a delicious salad and garlic toast. I would highly recommend. The service was spot on.
They had a really nice happy hour. We enjoyed our wine at the bar. The mussels were served in a delicious brothy goodness with really good bread to dip it in. The staff were very friendly and enthusiastic. We highly recommend it and will be making dinner reservations.
Wow this place was terrific. That burger is worth it. BBQ mushrooms were great too, also the amber draft they serve.
It was a fabulous meal with great atmosphere and service! We were on our honey moon so the waitresses put a candle on our dessert and wrote positive wishes on the plate with chocolate. Definitely can't wait to go back!
Great restaurant. Highly recommend the Grilled Artichoke appetizer and the Key Lime Pie. Their grilled flank stake special was also excellent.
Awesome food. Went for restaurant week and had a great steak. Our server Morgan was great as well
Had a wonderful birthday here last night. Delicious flatiron steak, soup, salad and of course, wine! The place was packed but the service was still fast and friendly.
A glass of Hitching Post Highliner or Perfect Set to start! Then move on to a Grilled Artichoke and Stuffed Pasillia Pepper and get ready for a Rib Eye Steak you will remember for a long time (and drive 21/2 hours to come back in a week for another!) while being entertained by Oscar and Victor. Two of the best Bar keeps ever! 🍷🍷🍽
Excellent food and great wine selections! The pork chops were the best we’ve ever had!
The steak was awesome, the sides, the service.. great place highly recommend
A waitress, Nicole, was super nice and kind. I was happy and satisfied with her customer skills.
1. I love their savory salad. The vegetable was fresh although they provided already mixed salad.
2. Steak and Duck Combo is really great and rare to eat both of meat. Steak was juicy and great grade. Additionally, cooking steak is reliable since they have open window to show how to cook steaks.
3. *Steak Sauce* is the best sauce. Mandarine or Orange Steak sauce was perfect harmony with steak and even duck. The sauce helps not to be sick and tired of the meat, and can help to keep eating and eating again.
Lunch is served across the parking lot over at the winery rather than in the steakhouse itself. The two vegetarian options include a Beyond Burger and a portobello sandwich, which I chose and was delicious. There was also free broccoli slaw. The service was amazing and the view of the valley and Ostrich Land was beautiful.
One of the best steakhouses on the central coast. My steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. It was buttery soft and juicy like any well cooked steak, it needed no steak sauce. The appetizers were the bomb, I highly recommend the bbq mushrooms sautéed in their own branded wine. I celebrated my birthday and the staff was amazing from the manager Angel to Chef Jesus and Morgan our waitress they all made my celebration awesome. They even came out with a birthday dessert.
Celebrated a friend's birthday here and the food was absolutely delicious. Appetizer was wonderfully combined: roasted pepper with shrimp and goat cheese, served with (spicy) corn salsa. I had the chicken and it was so tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. Served with many sides (salad, garlic bread, and I chose baked potato), I couldn't finish my plate. While I wouldn't make more than a 30 minute trip to eat here again, I would DEFINITELY visit again when I'm in the area. Sidenote: make reservations on the weekend! They book up quick!
We had a choice of two restaurants next to each other, both opened at 4 p.m. We waited for one to open but ended up going to the Hitching Post 2. Now here is where I read the Google reviews and both had their good points, yet in the end I'm happy we chose this place because we wanted more light with our dining experience. We Chose to sit out in the big white tent in the back. We weren't concerned with the prices because we know what rib places cost nowadays. Both meals were satisfying and tasty. We had good conversation good food and a good time. My favorite was the pork chop dinner while my girlfriend had the chicken dinner. I enjoyed watching the TV monitor with the cook actually cooking the food on the grill. If you ever ask yourself why man loves meat this TV show says it all. Thanks to Genevieve our waitress for being responsive to all my weird questions.Gracias.
Unpretentious, simple food (2.5 Green Stars)
Here’s a tip for vegetarians – rather than trying to pick out a few veggie appetizers, ask your server to just make up a veggie main course for you. It’ll consist of a sampler of all of their vegetarian options along with a few other items. Mine had a grilled artichoke and BBQ mushrooms – dishes that I was going to order separately before finding out that a combo veggie main course was available (at the chef’s discretion). Actually my favorite things on this plate were the grilled tomato, red onion and the baked potato. It ended up being a lot of food, but I didn’t feel bloated afterwards – I think that’s thanks to the raw veggies served at the start of the meal – a nice touch.
Other notes: Wish I had had wine instead of beer – I would have liked to have tried the Highliner. The dining room looks like a restaurant from 1980’s Ireland (i.e., not fancy) so don’t dress up too much! A highlight for me was coming out of the bathroom (BTW, one of them has two toilets right next to each other – what?!) and seeing two people at the bar that could easily have been Thomas Haden Church and Paul Giamatti :D
I’m giving 2.5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, for these reasons:
• There’s a large emphasis on meat (yes, I know – that’s kind of the point) but more veggie options would be appreciated. You can demonstrate good BBQ skills with veggies too & bring HP into the present day where we should be eating mostly plants if we want to avert total climate (and habitat) catastrophe.
• Some info is provided on meat and fish sourcing on the website menu.
• Wines are very much local – mostly Hitching Post wines but also several from Santa Ynes, Paso Robles, etc.
• Same for beer – I had a Firestone Walker beer that’s a staple on the menu.
