We live about 30 minutes away but the drive was worth it!!! We had the suffed zucchini blossoms (to die for), calamari to start. Enjoyed a large serving of fried eggplant panino with huge meatball. The bolognse serving size was smaller than expected but good. Topped off the night with cheesecake and creme brûlée. We went on a Monday and it was very busy. Despite the crowd, our food was prompt and hot, service was attentive keeping our drinks full and clearing dishes. Atmosphere is more upscale without the pretentious feeling and price. We will most definitely be back!!!

Great place! Love the atmosphere and food. The calamari was delicious as was a gnocchi special with lobster and veggies. Thx for accommodating my garlic intolerance and being family friendly!
It was our first time there and we will definitely be back. The food was absolutely delicious! Lasagna was out of this world! Loved the New York City decor in the dining room! Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants great food and a good atmosphere.
I live 75 miles away, never been there before. It’s like Rocky’s and Antonettas in Rochester but nicer inside. Similar working class blue collar neighborhood. The food is better than the 2 aforementioned Rochester places. I’m a picky veal guy being in the meat business. It’s was excellent. If your in Buffalo you can’t go wrong going there. Friendly staff and clean too
The food, service and atmosphere are fantastic. The lasagna is the best around and we will definitely be back. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food served and it was like being in food Heaven!!
Great food and great service! Highly recommend, best Italian food!
I have had many people give me great reviews. This was my first visit. The rave reviews were spot on. We enjoyed selections from the Restuarant Week menu. I will be returning to try other menu items. Yeh daily specials were tempting. I am looking forward to my next visit
Everyone that works there are very nice... the food was on point (very good)... Go there if you want to get full an go straight to bed....
Excellent food and service! All decorated for the Holidays too! Had the manicotti and it’s to die for!We went for lunch this time and can’t wait to go agsin!
Hands down the best restaurant in Buffalo. Home made sauce and pasta I have not had one dish that I did not like
Food was outstanding with the service to match. Highly recommend for any occasion.
Great people... great food ..... would definitely recommend 👍🏻Can’t wait to return 😋
The waitress was fast and friendly the food delicious the gnocchi was homemade and the manicotti tender mmm

Authentic Italian. The lasagne changes daily and the servings are huge. I try something different every time I go and they never disappoint
This is an 8 hr. Italian restaurant. You should drive 8 hours to get Mulberry food. Especially the lasagna which is totally to die for. The Mulberry Meatballs are really big and really good. We got some Mulberry Gnocchi which was excellent and perfectly cooked. The service we received was excellent. Are the surroundings drab? No. They have NYC memorabilia all over the walls with lots of photos and other cool stuff. It reminds me of Tufano's in Chicago tucked away in a residential neighborhood but serving home style Italian food
Went here for graduation dinner.
An enjoyable meal on par with what I would expect for good food for the Buffalo region.
By good I mean significantly better than any other local Italian place I have found. Reasonable price point. I'd say go early in the service as they will run out of some specials.
My wife and I absolutely loved this place! We will for sure make a trip back just for this amazing restaurant. The meatball is amazing and the veal parmesan is the best I've ever had.

It reminds me of Tufano's in Chicago tucked away in a residential neighborhood but serving home style Italian food. I don't like fancy schmancy restaurants with skimpy portions and colorful sauce dribbled on the plate to make the food look good. I like big solid portions of food that tastes great and that is what you will get at Mulberry. Is it a top restaurant in Western NY?? Try and get a parking place at dinner time or lunch time. When you can't you will know that this is on top of the charts. Just like the folks who would wait in line on the sidewalk outside Tufanos to get the real Italian stuff.
Went yesterday and the staff were AMAZING. We arrived at 5pm without reservations, The hostess said it was a 45 min wait or we could eat at the bar(Only 20 min wait) after 2 minutes we heard we could get takeout. As we were asking about take out, The hostess said we could be seated. The bread, Salad and pasta were amazing. The Hostess, Waitress and staff were the BEST and the food was Amazing and reasonably priced.
My husband and I went here for dinner after our wedding and the food was great. The staff and atmosphere was nice too. Everything here tastes homemade and fresh! They do not skimp on portions either. The eggplant panino and cremé brûlée were outstanding! Best Italian restaurant in Buffalo by far!
Always enjoyed the food but I will never return after the poor customer I received today. Management has no respect for customers or ability (maybe no desire) to accommodate large dinner parties.
We took a REAL Italian here.....and even HE was impressed. We had visitors from Europe here recently. One of whom was from Italy and his Dad is a chef. He liked it very much, as do we.
Not the greatest neighborhood....but you will forget that when you get your food.
Delish, but..... I've frequented this place for a few years now, and they are always good, food and service wise. I just went for the first time in a year, and the portion sizes, which used to be enough for dinner and some take home, have shrunk, leaving the food a tad overpriced, but still good, and will probably not deter me from occasionally visiting.
This is by far my most favorite Italian restaurant in Buffalo, and I'm a picky Italian! No matter what item you choose on the menu, you will be impressed. They also have daily specials that are always different, and always perfect. The pasta is cooked al dente all the time, the flavors are just right and genuine. The lasagna is a classic, and can easily feed two. Their appetizers are also very good (try the meatball!), and their homemade pappardelle are a favorite of mine, no matter the sauce. Great and speedy service too.
I was extremely surprised. The food was awesome. This is more then spaghetti and meatballs. This is a quality restaurant. The service is not the greatest but this isn't ultra fine food although the Osso buco is one of the best I've had. Good experience and I would go back in a heartbeat.
You won't believe this until you try it yourself. My husband, daughter and I visited Mulberry for the first time on June 16 to celebrate Father's Day. We ordered Caprese Salad, Shrimp Bisque, Manicotti, Lasagna, Spaghetti & Meatball, and both cannolis. Everything was extraordinary! We frequent many fine Italian restaurants in the Rochester, NY area - and Mulberry outperforms all of them, hands-down! We are enchanted with the incredible food, the attentive yet calm service, the ambiance of the restaurant and the reasonable prices. We walked out of the restaurant dumbfounded - we couldn't believe what we had just experienced. THANK YOU to Mulberry's owner & employees for the first of what will be multiple visits. Our only request: PLEASE consider opening a second restaurant in the Rochester area. You'll clean up!!!
Astonishing...every time. Recently found myself unoccupied on a Sunday afternoon. Stopped in for a small meal...no such item there. Always try something new ...Gemelli w Antinori Santa Christina wine. Indescribably delicious & the recommended wine savory. Refreshing service & fantastically reasonable. You are missing a true culinary marvel.
Excellent = Understatment. Just enjoyed an 2nd Anniversary meal at Mulberry w/my lovely Wife. I must say, the previous reviews were spot on. The Fried Mozzarella, Chicken Parm & Pollo alla Violanti was INCREDIBLE, STUPENDOUS & SUPERNATURAL for lack of better adjectives. Coming from the inner-city, it's conveniently located away from the norm... I've lived in Buffalo for over 30 years, and this was by far one of my top 3 food experiences.
Don't be alarmed by the small appetizer & salad portions...the main course is huge. Definitely going for Father's Day. I love you honey; I love you Mulberry Italian Ristorante. You've given me another reason to be a proud WNY resident.
Sincerely,
Dr. Eat's Good
Delicioso! Not to be Missed!. My wife and I drove down to Lackawanna from our home in the University district, having been told by our friends that Mulberry's is worth the trip. Since my wife is a terrific Italian cook and we both have well-tuned palates I admit to having been skeptical about going, but was it worth it! We enjoyed one of the best meals we have had in a long, long time, the price was right, and the service was excellent.
Mulberry's takes some "finding," for it is in a working class neighborhood and the restaurant is in a nondescript building with a small sign, but we recognized it quickly on a Thursday night because there were cars parked all around it. The place was packed! Fortunately, we had reservations. You will need them.
Walking in we found a very lively bar scene and several animated patrons, including one easily recognizable, local political figure. There were some tables in the barroom, and it would have been too noisy for me, but after waiting about 20 minutes we were comfortably seated in a quiet room towards the back of the building. We ordered two glasses of chianti and the waitress gave us ample time to settle in before ordering.
I won't tell you what appetizers we had (Mulberry's famous meatball and roasted scallops), but they were delicious and plentiful. For dinner I had a veal dish (sorry, I forget the name) and my wife had Gemelli. Again, delicious and plentiful. Fresh salads (no iceberg lettuce, thank you) came with dinner, as did bread. I subtract 1/10 of a point for the bread because I make my own at home, and theirs needs a little work. Sue me for complaining.
Again, service was fine. Our waitress was helpful and friendly, present when we needed her and at other times, not. With three glasses of wine ($21), the bill came to something over $85, and I was so pleased with Mulberry's I left the waitress a sizable tip.
One of the better comparisons to Mulberry's I can make is to Sinatra's restaurant on Kenmore Avenue. Both are great, but if I had to choose to go to only one, the choice would be this place in Lackawanna. To paraphrase Schwartzenegger, we will be back. Soon, soon.
Excellent Italian. Following some recommendations from DDD/Guy Fieri, we took the short trip across the border from Canada. The food, the atmosphere, the prices and the service were all top shelf....but the best was the food. Honestly can't wait to eat there again.
First visit to mulberry last night! Began our meal with scallops and banana peppers! Best we ever had! Bread and salad left a little to be desired But then our entrees of manicotti and chicken parm came our way....delicious! We were too full for dessert at the restaurant so we ordered cannolis to go! Incredible! We are already planning on going back next week!
Best Italian food in WNY hands down! 2 entrees and a bottle of nice chianti came to $65. Brenda was a great server! We will be back again!
People who comment on it not being the safest area in town haven't visited the restaurant! It's safe, well lit and the parking lot is two feet from the door. Now to the food! The food is amazing! The service is great! The restaurant is beautifully decorated. The food is amazing! Oh wait, I already said that!! Yummmm
Eat there immediately.. Stop reading this and go to this restaurant immediately.
Seriously, why are you still reading this? Every minute you're not driving there is one minute you are denying yourself one of the finest italian-american meals you'll ever have.
This place will forever ruin all chain restaurants for you that report to serve similar food.
OMG WHY ARE YOU STILL READING THIS!? GO!
Love It!. The location screams true Buffalonian, nestled on a side street in sunny LA near the steel mill. Homemade everything - pasta, mozzarella, gnocchi. I have had the lasagna, meatball, gnocchi, Joe Shaw rigatoni, gnocchetti bambina, grilled artichoke salad; everything is fantastic. Also, the best tiramisu I've ever had. But one thing you must do, schedule a nap for after dinner. Food coma!
Fantastico!. I went to Mulberry Italian Ristorante with 3 other people for a nice New Years Eve dinner. As we walked in the festive and very tasteful holiday decorations put a smile on my face, I absolutely loved them!
As this was the first time I have been to Mulberry in a while I went a little overboard. As a shared appetizer I had the stuffed mushrooms which were delicious, had a bite of the special blueberry gnocchi which were surprisingly tasty. I ordered the same thing I always order because it is just that good, chicken parmigiana. I was not disappointed, the portion was enormous and left enough for a second meal to take home. The chicken was moist on the inside and the breading was nice and crunchy with the cheese on top baked so that it was browning on the edges. We all shared a side order of the "meatball" and it was more than enough for the four of us! As busy as they were (every table filled) the food was cooked just as we ordered it and there was not one thing to complain about.
All four of us enjoyed our meal and the exceptional service we received from Lisa, it was a busy night and she was attentive from the time we sat down until we walked out.
Went there on 12/21 overall the food was great with one exception which was my veal parm. It was like trying to eat a puece of rubber. My daughter ha the chicken parm which was outstanding and mon had the lasagna amazing my dad had the cheese ravioli again amazing. We also shared the stuffed banana peppers and mulberry meatball which were both big enough for a meal. I can not wait to go back but will never order the veal again.
Mulberry's is now my favorite place to go when I'm in the mood for fine Italian cuisine! Amazing entrees at even more amazing prices! Love it!
GREAT AMERICAN ITALIAN FOOD. Unpretentious good food and service in all respects. When I say "American Italian" that is just what I mean. Nice casual ambiance, certainly not overpriced and worth the wait when it is crowded- which it frequently is.
Absolutely the BEST Italian!!!. Everything we ordered was absolutely the best!! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys the best of the best food! Great mom and pop style restaurant in a cute Italian neighborhood!
It was acceptable, but nothing wowed me. The best thing was the gnocchi. It was fresh. The spaghetti sauce was too salty. Service was average. There are other Italian restaurants I rather visit ( such as San Marcos and Trattoria Aroma)
Awesome!. A little hard to find but Mulberry is definitely worth the effort. The food is amazing & the service is outstanding. The only complaint I would have (if I have to have one) is it's not place to sit & linger. It is a very busy place, & although they don't make you feel rushed, they do need the tables to turn over relatively quickly to accommodate their customers. I will definitely be back.
Stellar!!!! I loved all the food, homemade and the taste out of this world. I will be back whenever I'm in town!!!
Delicious!. We visited this restaurant last summer when we drove home to Buffalo for a visit. Saw it on Diner's, Drive-in's and Dives. Food was delicious and the portion sizes were huge. The only problem I had was that we have two ten year old children and the entree was way to expensive and large for them to each order one. There is no children's menu. If you order one plate for them to share, you are charged an additional $2.00. doesn't make sense. Will be visiting again when we visit this month. Might leave the kids at their grandparents, though.
Simply the best. The most underrated Italian food in New York State. I am not talking about the red sauce and lasagna and all of the triple D hype. I am talking about the specials. I am talking about the food that defines the chef and not the hype. Veal cheeks, the best I've ever had (in fact, the only i've ever seen in WNY). Agnolotti, the best ever (in fact, the only i've ever seen in WNY) and most recently, the blueberry gnocchi with porcini mushrooms and duck ragu. WOW! I've never even HEARD of such a thing. The most mind blowing combination I have ever had. There is true talent behind the stove and I know I can't possibly be the only one who admires it. Come for the meatballs, spaghetti, lasagna, because its all great stuff, but the truth is in the specials.
This is our favourite restaurant. We try to bring friends and relatives here so they can experience the great food, great service and great prices!!! Wouldn't change a thing here.
GREAT ITALIAN DONE RIGHT!!. Any one who says they dont like Mulberry just has bad taste, and may need help.. This is the best Italian food in Buffalo, hands down.
I go there once every couple months, and the food and service is consistantly amazing! Great portions of Italian classics. Fresh home made bread ,salad dressing and killer meatballs . They take pride in the food they prepare and it shows. This is not a chicken finger and fries joint its great Italian done right!!! As far as the location, get over it . Not everyone lives in suberbia sweetheart , thank god. I love this place.
Amazing food. Fine dining atmosphere for pub fare prices.
Top to Bottom..PERFECT..from a true New Yorker. I travel all over North America. I live in New York. Mainly because it's the food I grew up on, I eat Italian everywhere. This experience was nearly transporting. I heard about the Mulberry from a TV exec in Manhattan who said I had to try it. He raved about the manicotti and the meatball and the fact that the food was what you would get in New York. Unpretentious and straight forward. He nailed it. I went for lunch on a Tuesday and tried the stuffed banana peppers (which I had never had anywhere)....perfect. Stuffed with sausage and mozzarella melted over the top...and toasted bread crumbs with oil..the "perfect touch". I ordered a cup of sauce with my bread and I must say. You want to talk about unpretentious, this chef knows about ingredients (more about the chef later). I could taste the tomatoes, I could taste the garlic, and I could taste the olive oil. No unecessary seasonings...just fine ingredients and a fine touch. The best in the area BY A LANDSLIDE. I ordered rigatoni with a meatball. The pasta was perfect al dente, the meatball was 10 out of 10. Moist, slightly spicy....once again...masterful touch, I tasted every ingredient and no one ingredient overpowered the other. Sheer delight on the palate. I enjoyed it so much I returned for dinner at 7PM with a female companion. I was not disappointed. There was a 45 minute wait at 7PM on a Tuesday. I call a wait "the tell" .... 45 minutes on a Tuesday at 7PM in Buffalo...!! They are doing something right! I was given the honor of a visit to my table from chef Joe. I explained to him my upbringing and my heritage and the importance of food to me and how wonderful lunch was. He promptly took the menus from us and said "just let me cook for you". 5 courses.... a boston lettuce and zucchini salad with lemon vinaigrette and feta....paccheri alla norma ...pasta with eggplant, cherry tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and basil pesto...agnolotti with veal and mushrooms...a seared scallop served in the shell with lentils and lamb reduction..(unbelievable)...and to finish the most tender, perfectly cooked piece of veal tenderloin I have ever experienced. If I sound giddy its because I am. This food was over the top! My lady said it was the best she'd ever had and I am inclined to agree. Service? He brought out all of the food and explained it himself! Do yourself a huge favor and ignore any negative reviews about this place. It is through and through an outstanding restaurant and I cannot wait to return to Buffalo to eat here again.
Absolutely love this place! Everyone who I've bought to Mulberry has become addicted! Amazing food and atmosphere. Never had had a dish I didnt like, scallops amore is my fav!! Prices match the quality and quantity of food served. If I wasn't so poor I would eat there once a week :)
Favorite restaurant !. Positively adore this restaurant and especially at Christmas time because it's always decorated so beautifully and the food has never failed us, so delicious! The famous meatball, lasagna and the eggplant parm. are just some of our favorites! Oh and if your thirsty, Billy the bartender makes a mean cosmo and a very dirty martini, enjoy!
LOVE IT! Best place around for food and atmosphere!
Love it! Meatballs are to die for! Yum. Can't wait to try their gluten free pasta.
The best italian restaurant in buffalo!!!
Great!. Small but great food. Parking can be a bear but I heard that they are expanding. Also try their new restaurant Della Mostra next to Shea's downtown Buffalo before and after the events. Unbelievable meatball!
Love love love this place! I can't say enough! Unless you don't mind waiting, a reservation is highly recommended! Do yourself a favor and order a meatball or an entree that includes a meatball! Eggplant panino is awesome! You won't leave hungry but you will leave with leftovers! Can't wait to go back
How did I not know about this place before?!. Oddest location for the most delicious food! Friendly & attentive staff from the moment you walk in until you leave. They really know the menu they sell and make great recommendations on their favorite dishes. Started off with calamari, salad, bread, & a bottle of Riesling all before homemade gnocchi and a 1/2 lb meatball! I also loved that you walk into a busy happy hour bar then get taken back to a smaller, intimate room. Best of both worlds! Definitely one of my new favorite Italian restaurants
Not Bad. I was looking for somewhere to take my girlfriend for our one-year anniversary. I saw that Mulberry was the top-rated Italian restaurant on UrbanSpoon, so I figured we'd give it a try. I called at 11:30am on a Friday to make a reservation for that evening, and was told that 5:15pm was the latest they still had available. I took it. As others have said, this restaurant is located in a residential area. I found a parking spot in the lot. I got stuck in traffic and was 5 minutes late for our reservation, but the hostess didn't mind. We were seated immediately. The front half of the restaurant includes the bar area, which was pretty loud. Fortunately, we were seated in the back half of the restaurant, which was dimly lit and had a bit more of a romantic feel. Our waitress was friendly. She brought us water, and asked for our drink order. When she returned with our drinks, we ordered our entrees. I ordered manicotti and my girlfriend ordered a gnocchi entree with sausage and peppers. We were brought bread, as well as our salads. We were told all of the dressings are homemade. I enjoyed my ranch dressing. The entrees were next to arrive. My plate consisted of four manicotti and a large "Mulberry" meatball. My girlfriend received a decent portion of gnocchi. The manicotti and sauce were good. I found the meatball to be bland, though... Maybe it's because I'm used to my family's own recipe, but I wasn't a huge fan. I ate half, and gave the rest to my girlfriend. Each of our entrees were $15. Not a fantastic value, but not bad either.
Overall, I liked it. It's somewhere I'd go back to maybe once or twice a year for something different... Not a favorite, though.
Very good.. I am a visitor to the area and wanted to try out this place. It's very good quality italian food. They had wonderful angel hair pasta, and I was pleased that was an option when I asked. Fantastic food and one huge yummy meatball.
Food was very good. I wish they has espresso. But it was worth the wait for a table
Guy Fieri may have brought me there, but the food will bring me back.. Hopped in thE car and made the trek from Toronto to buffalo and was not disappointed with Mulberry. It's a odd location, but clearly a loved neighborhood establishment. Moments after we were seated the chef/owner came out and offers us a taste of his freshly made (in-house) mozzarella. It was still warm and absolutely melted on my tongue. I'm not exaggerating when I say my mouth waters thinking about it's taste.
My group ordered the meatball to start and then the lasagna and gnocchi Mulberry as our mains. The meatball was amazing, sliced and covered in that same mozzerella and one of the best marinara sauces I've had. The portions were huge, and not too expensive. The lasagna was a huge tower of goodness, so many layers each with it's own delicious flavour. The gnocchi was light, and perfectly complimented by hot peppers and house made sausage,
I only wish I'd saved room for dessert, apparently there was a ricotta cheesecake and tiramisiu- two of my faves.
The owner checked in with us after our meal and was very friendly and genuine. He thanked us for coming all that way and seemed genuinely thankful for our raves about his food. may be 1.5 hours away, but Mulberry was totally worth the drive. I'll be back soon.
I dare you to find better.... Growing up in an Italian family, traditional Italian cooking was the norm. Throughout life, no matter how wonderful a restaurant you find, it can never compare to the smells and tastes from home, from your mother's kitchen, your Nonna's kitchen, or any of your aunts...
I finally found a place that I can consider on par with the home cooking I've known for 38 years, and that is Mulberry Italian Ristorante. My first trip to Mulberry was about a year ago, and even though it's over 2 hours away, we have been about a dozen times since then.
The two must-try items on the menu are the Meatball and the Lasagna. The Meatball is an astounding size, nearly the size of a softball, and it literally melts in your mouth, soft enough to cut with the edge of your fork. Alone with the house sauce, or with a side of homemade Ricotta...it's unbelievable. (We usually leave with 2 or 3 extra for the freezer at home!)
The Lasagna changes daily, and is filled with layers of delicioiusness which may include any (or all) of the following: sliced meatball, chicken, roast pork, veal, beef, sausage and peppers, pepperoni, or braggiole. Warning: The size of the Lasagna dwarfs the Meatball, so be prepared. Always order the full-size...it's spectacular for lunch the next day.
I wrote about my first visit to Mulberry on my own website, and one of the comments I made was that the Lasagna was the only one I had ever tasted that was actually (gasp!) better than my mother's. What a statement from a proud Italian son, don't you think? My mother was obviously not pleased, but I ended up taking her to Mulberry a few months later, and as she tasted the lasagna for the first time, she said to me, 'You're right. This is better than mine." (100% true story)
But this place is so much more than just those two items. Personal favourites include the Mozzarella Alla Russo or the Fried Arancini to start. for entrees, I would recommend the traditional Spaghetti with Meatball if you want a classic, or the Chicken Violanti or Tagliatelle Bolognese. The daily specials are always exciting too, and feature items like fried zucchini blossoms, homemade ravioli, and my personal favourite, the Sunday Gravy, a combination of meats stewed together in sauce all day and served with fresh homemade gnocchi.
And yes...I have tried all of those items.
The food is fantastic, the prices are insanely affordable, and the staff is unbelievable...I feel like family every time I walk through the doors.
I couldn't recommed Mulberry any higher. If I'm ranking out of 5 stars, I'm giving it a 6.
WOW....LOVE this Place. I could go on for days about this place. From the service, to the quality and depth of the food, to the overall warm family atmosphere. I am a picky eater, and I have found a place that tastes like my grandmother was in their kitchen. Truly a Buffalo area gem.
Authentic Food, Awesome Staff!. This is true Italian food. I have been there twice while in town on business and I could not have been any happier. It was suggested to me by an employee of a downtown hotel and they hit it on the head! Veal cheeks with bitto cheese risotto!!! Veal cheeks and bitto cheese in buffalo?? Outstanding. My first visit the place was mobbed (on a tuesday I might add) and I wasn't sure I would get in. I dine alone and sometimes busy restaurants don't appreciate single diners. I could not have felt any more welcomed from the time I hit the door. The service was wonderful and the hostess(es) were very accomodating. The second visit (also mobbed and on a Tuesday) I had the zucchini blossoms and the homemade buffalo mozzarella agnolotti with cherry tomatoes and I must say it was in the top three ravioli / agnolotti dishes I have ever eaten. I read a couple of negative reviews but it sounds like sour grapes to me. This is a place I would bring family, friends, business associates, and clients to. It has a great vibe that would make anyone from any walk of life feel comfortable. If you get the chance to visit this restaurant do not pass it up. Wonderful job Mulberry!
Best Meatballs Ever!!!. I've only been there a couple of times but I'm looking for a reason to go back - not that I need a reason - but it is a little pricey, but definitely worth it! I like to save places like this for special occasions :)
American Italian Done Perfectly. My wife and I are, for lack of a better word, foodies. We love food. We both love to cook, throw dinner parties, attend dinner parties and as you can probably guess, we love eating out as well. We have introduced this love to our two kids. They seem to be on different ends of the spectrum. Our son is all about pizza, ribs, burgers, fries and pasta. Our daughter on the other hand seems to have a more sophisticated palate. So much so, when trying something new, she will take the food item, hold it to her nose, take a sniff and then put it in her mouth. It should be said that he is 8 and she is 5. The one item they both agree on is pasta. Likely because their Dad is half Italian and loves to cook the classic dishes from Italy as well as the odd American Italian dish. I also can't get enough of pasta.
One particular Saturday, we were shopping at the Walden Galleria Mall and when we were done, we checked Urbanspoon and Flavortown USA for the best places nearby. After a quick cross reference, it was decided to make the 15 minute trip to Mulberry Italian Ristorante in Lackawanna.
We arrived at 4pm and were given the late lunch menu. Had we arrived an hour later, we wouldn't have eaten....they were booked until 9pm. The famed lasagna is not on the late lunch menu, but there is enough to choose from. After reading every item on the menu, our daughter ordered the spaghetti with meatball. I was confused at first by the term meatball, until I was reminded of the DDD episode where the owner makes these baseball sized meatballs. With that we ordered a second meatball as an appetizer with the home made mozzarella on it. We also ordered pasta e fagioli and the sausage stuffed hot peppers. All the appetizers were fantastic, I can't wait to return for the meatball and the sausage. The pasta e fagioli was good, not enough pasta for my preference, but great taste and lots of fagioli.
For entrees, my burger loving son ordered the meatball sandwich known as The Chipper. My wife ordered the manicotti and I ordered the cheese ravioli, all with tomato sauce. All these pastas were fantastic. The homemade al denta pastas, the ricotta and the seasoning in the sauce were all spot on. I could not have asked for a better meal. Our son and daughter could not get enough of their meals, though the spaghetti and meatball was a little too much for the five year old....haha. Our son however, asked the waitress without provocation, if he could speak to the owner to compliment him on his restaurant and delicious meatball sandwich.
We loved our late lunch so much, we ordered dessert, cannoli and cheesecake. Both were as good as our meal, so much so, we ordered a second cannoli after devouring the first. While at the Walden Galleria Mall, we ordered an item that we were told would take 2 weeks to come in. We are counting the days until we have a reason to cross the border again.
As it turns out, this past week, I was with friends out for a pint, and the discussion turned to food. One friend said I have heard about this Mulberry place in Buffalo.....I couldn't say enough about my experience, and now have another reason to return a third time........I can't wait.
Best Italian in Buffalo. Been here multiple times and every time the food and service was great. They have some of the best stuffed peppers I have ever had, and of course the best meatballs in the world.
Worth the drive from Canada. After viewing 'Diner's, Drive-In's and Dives' on the Food Network, and realizing that Mulberry's was practically in our backyard, about a year ago we decided to give it a try. We've been there several times now, even introducing it to family and friends - all of whom RAVE about the food - Mulberry even passed the 'In-Law' acceptance test! From the lasagna's, the gnocchi (of course with the meatball), to the Chicken or Veal Parm, all fav's. We come from about an hour away in Canada (with no wait at the border) and I recommend (or should I say 'challenge') any Canadian Italian non-chain restaurants to match not only the quality and quantity of the food, but try to match the prices - simply can't be done, everything 'home' made - not 'Serca' food simply reheated. Bravo to Mulberry and thanks for the tip 'Diner's, Drive-In's and Dives' . Odd location, but being off the beaten path lends to the uniqueness of this hidden gem. Since trying a year ago, I have not spent a dime in a Canadian Italian Restaurant of any kind, nor do I plan to, Mulberry is simply that good and worth the drive, so type the address in your GPS and give it a try.
Best Restaurant with a Secret Location. Don't be fooled by the odd location of this place. The food is incredible. It's one of Buffalo's best kept secrets. Its not that complicated to find, so if you are a visitor, take the plunge and venture out.
Excellent atmosphere, excellent service and most of all Great Food at great prices! I highly recommend this restaurant to those who love italian food or who just love great food period!
Brilliant!. From top to bottom, brilliant! The concept, the odd location, the decor, the music, and most importantly THE FOOD! I was here for restaurant week and was FLOORED by the 6 course tasting menu. It's not just the terrific red sauce and homemade Italian, there is real talent behind the stove here. I am a regular and I love the homemade pastas and lasagna. The meatballs are tender and delicious. This is Italian comfort food at it's best....but if you want to taste something new, order from the specials....Bravo Mulberry!
This has to be the best resturant in the Buffalo area. Damn that meatball is HUGE. Everyone needs to go here.
Despite the reviews to the contrary their portion sizes are nothing amazing, food however is nothing short of.
