Hidden amidst some historical crumbling buildings, this local hang out serves a fantastic lunch and a decent breakfast. All the leaders in town are here. Atmosphere is genuinely authentic. I finished a great club sandwich and potatoe soup with the best coconut cream pie I’ve ever had. A gem in Cameron and worth looking for.
Almost daily, my cousin posts the menu for the DutchTowne Deli & Cafe. As I see these posts I think "That looks good". But alas, they are nearly a three hour drive from me. Well, yesterday I decided it was time to make the trip. A friend and I drove in from Houston and let me tell you, it was definitely worth the drive!
As we walked in, the smell of "deliciousness" pulled us right through the door and to a table.
We were fortunate enough to have Chastity as our waitress, and the down home country goodness experience just started there. We never had to ask to have drinks refilled and she was always there to check if we needed anything at all. Not like so many other places where the waitstaff simply disappear and return to be nice just before you leave a tip. She told us abut the special. Yesterday it was roasted pork loin, mashed potatoes and green beans and their famous bread pudding. (More on the bread pudding in a moment.) We obviously opted for the special.
Our food arrived in record time and it was hot and ready. There was a sauce alongside the pork loin that I simply cannot describe without salivating. It was tangy and vinegar based and was was reminiscent of something I had in Munich, Germany a few months ago when I ordered a crispy pig knuckle. Suffice it to say, it was delicious! The pork loin was tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. Not at all overcooked and dry like so many are. The mashed potatoes and beans were "just like mom used to make."
For dessert they had a wide selection of various pies. All looked scrumptious, but on a shelf in the glass display case there was a large pan of mouthwatering bread pudding that had been staring at me since the moment I walked in. I understand they are famous for their bread pudding and now I know why. I admit, I am a big fan of bread pudding anyway, but this was out-of-this-world delicious! Sweet but not overpowering, moist, but not soggy and the sauce...WOW!
This could not have been better if they had a little baby angel on top of it. LOL The best part was that you could not only get it to go, but you could buy it by the pan! A perfect ending to a perfect meal.
As I sat there, I enjoyed the decor with the nostalgic stamped tin ceiling tiles and the 1966 calendar hanging by the restroom. What I really liked was the huge wooden bar and counter. It looked so familiar I asked about it. Chastity told me about the history of businesses that have been there and that it was once called Papa John's many years ago. That's when I remembered going there with my father and my uncle when I was boy. Since then, many years have passed and both my dad and my uncle are both gone now, but to me, that made this experience so much more special!
Next time you are passing through Cameron, or just want a little day trip to have a great meal and soak up a little history...dont forget to stop in, I guarantee you will get both.
So thank you Chastity, and thank you DutchTowne Deli & Cafe for the delicious meal and the walk down memory lane. I will certainly be back soon.

The potato soup was delicious. Several in my party had the protein plate off the breakfast menu and raved about it so now I have to go back for breakfast. As always, the service was tops. The staff is friendly and helpful!
This is my favorite place to “GoWork.”
I get the protein plate for breakfast. My husband and I enjoy eating lunch here when I’m in town (he works in a Cameron, we live in Milano) and we are never disappointed with the awesome sandwiches and the speed. He’s never late getting back to work, and we can actually hear each other, unlike big city places. The block itself would make a great backdrop for portraits and photos shoots.
Love this place, and the town, and how permissible it is to take up a table and get some work done while keeping my coffee cup full!
Every time, every dish is a 5 star. Can be the sandwiches, salads, meals, homemade soups or pies, it's delicious and great portions.
The best service with a smile!
The chili was just spicy enough to enjoy, very delicious! Can't wait to return next time we are in Cameron!
Wonderful food and service! I absolutely love this place!
An absolute gem in Cameron. Great food. Great prices. Small Town charm with excellent service. Do not pass up a chance to do lunch here!

Eat Dutchtown cage ever. Pies are wonderful and I pull recommend all things on the menu. And the people are great
The food, the atmosphere, and the service is THE best. Making this place a new Texas dining tradition. Lone Star good, Lone Star proud...always a stop on my road trips here.
Love this place!!! Coming back! Wonderful atmosphere and great food.
This place has great food... whatever their doing in the back is magical. The service was also great. Lots of memories from old town Cameron.
Beautiful nostalgic tin celings with historical buildings all around. Seems like this was the place to stop for lunch as lots of locals were eating lunch here. Classic dishes are served here, anywhere from chicken salad to burgers. Great small town vibe & a little free museum nearby.
Best bread pudding ever. I had chicken salad, lots of bread choices but this time my rye wasn't very fresh. Potatoes soup was good, but small bowl, is really small. Buffalo chicken sandwich my wife had was good. Service was good, seating is limited with small tables. Cool atmosphere.
Excellent food, real quaint old timey building. Great, friendly service.
Stopped here for breakfast and it was great food. One had the blueberry pancakes and there were lots of blueberries in them. One had SOS sausage gravy over Texas toast and grits and was also great. Two had over medium eggs which were cooked perfectly not runny like most places with bacon which was also cooked perfectly. Coffee was good too. Great service and very nice staff. Will definitely go back.

More cafe, than deli but that's ok as we stopped on our travels for lunch. The decor fills all expectations of small town rustic. Almost feeling run down. Guess that's part of the charm.
We were served with small town hospitality. The food was quite good. My pork loin sandwich was very tasty, although a bit on the dry side.
Well worth visiting.
Breakfast is good, lunch is good, just an overall good place to eat
My food (turkey club in white) was excellent! The only issue my group had was that on the salads others ordered there was almost no chicken, when it was supposed to be a chicken salad. EVERYONE ELSE really enjoyed their lunch and had no issues. Great bread pudding!
