Tijuana Flats is the newest restaurant in ChampionsGate, FL and is a 5 minute drive from Gathering Houses near Disney. The atmosphere is fun, fun, fun! Brightly painted walls feature quotes from the Tijuana Flats Manifesto, popular 80’s and 90’s music is played, and patrons happily enjoy their customized menu selections. Outdoor patio tables with colorful umbrellas are welcoming too.
Discounts/Specials: Become a “Flat Head” and receive offers for discounts and coupons. The ChampionsGate location is so new, I had to choose a different Florida location. I immediately received an email offer for a free Tijuana Trio that I can just show the staff on my phone. No printing is necessary. They also have two weekly offers: Tijuana Tuesdaze – Every Tuesday get a special deal on two tacos, chips & a drink for $5.99! Throwback Thursdaze – Every Thursday get a special deal on a Tijuana burrito OR burrito bowl, chips & a drink for $5.99!
The menu includes burritos, bowls, chimichangas, flautas, nachos, tacos, salads, quesadillas, churros, soft drinks, iced tea, and bottled beers. Your meal is made to order with fresh ingredients, including homemade chips, tortillas, queso, guacamole, and salsa. You can order your meal “wet” (covered in queso or chipotle sauce) and you can choose a sauce from the Hot Bar. Some are not for wimps!
If that isn’t enough reason to eat here, consider the company’s commitment to:
No microwaves or freezers
Vegetarian, lard-free beans
No canned foods EVER
ZERO trans-fat cooking oil
Hormone-free chicken & steak
My last visit I tried a chicken burrito smothered in queso (“wet”), a side of guacamole, and iced tea. All were delicious and the portions were HUGE! My girlfriends and I all agreed it would be easy to share a meal here and still leave with leftovers. The guacamole tasted fresh with just the right amount of onion and tomatoes. I’m from Texas, so I consider myself an expert when it comes to Tex-Mex and guacamole quality :). The guac at Tijuana Flats rivals that of my favorite Tex Mex restaurants in the Lone Star State! Just guac, chips, and a cold one would be the perfect snack for me out on their patio. The restaurant offers a vast beer selection, including lagers, IPAs, and witbeirs, to name a few. Consult their recent blog post featuring suggestions and beer/food pairings for ideas.
If you’re not a fan of spice, don’t worry. You can customize your order and let the staff know your wishes. They won’t judge how wimpy you are. Speaking of the staff, the counter clerk was super friendly, helped us understand the menu better, and recommended a few of her favorites. During our meal, employees checked in with us about our experience, refilled our drinks, and took away our trash. The customer service and restaurant cleanliness was some of the best I’ve experienced in the area, which makes it easy for me to recommend Tijuana Flats as a must-go dining destination when staying at one of our homes.
Speaking of staying at our properties, if you are at one of the Gathering Houses near Disney, you most likely are feeding a crowd. Tijuana Flats offers a Hardly Homemade Burrito Kit and a Hardly Homemade Taco Kit. Both can be pre-ordered online and picked up for a fun time at on of our homes, Tex-Mex style. The website describes the kit as, “Priced at $34.99, the Burrito Kit feeds up to six people and is packed full of all the Tijuana Flats essentials, including protein (chicken and beef), toppings (jalapeños, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, and cheese), choice of refried or black beans, rice, flour or wheat tortillas, and chips. The Kit also comes with instructions for “How to Roll a Fat One” via a 10-step process that includes directives like “Add cheese (a cheesy burrito is a happy burrito)” and “Fold the sides in toward the center, making your tortilla hug those tasty insides.” The Hardly Homemade Taco Kit comes with similarly humorous instructions, is $31.99, and also feeds six.
