Visited here on a vacation. The staff is helpful and attentive, and the prices are reasonable. Delicious biscuits and pancakes, and the grits was amazing. The coffee was very typical for a diner. The only place they fell short on my family's meal was the mac & cheese. I'll definitely visit again if I ever find myself in the area.
Wow, food is amazing! The staff is awesome too. My wife and I eat here at least twice a month. I have never been disappointed. I recommend this place to everyone that come to visit us!
My family has been visiting Early Bird for a long time. It’s our fave place to eat while on vacation in Charleston. Great menu and good prices. The sweets and homemade ice cream have become our go to.
The French toast was excellent, the sausage patties are ground fresh there and it was awesome and the grits were to die for. I have never tasted grits anywhere that it tasted that good!
We were headed out of town and looking for somewhere good to grab a bite. Pulled in and the line was already forming so we knew we were at the right place! The food was great and so was the atmosphere! We will definitely be back next time we come to Charleston.
We were staying in a small hotel down the road and wanted a good supper. A fabulous supper is what we got! He ordered the fettuccine and I had the steak and shrimp! OMG! We will stop again if we are anywhere close!
Awesome fried chicken. Sage and mushroom gravy was off the hook. Good service to go with a hearty meal.
The service was excellent and the food was outstanding! It is a must if you are in Charleston!
This was the cutest place..I loved the stickers on the door and the pictures on the tea and ice maker cracked me up...I had a Snitzel hoagie and fried green tomatoes..It was really goog..My hubby had steak. .great
One of my favorite restaurants in the West Ashley area! Friendly staff and delicious food!
Great vibe as a whole~
I had the shrimp and grits and my boyfriend had the chicken and waffles it was the best I had thus far
The shrimp and grits were amazing and the pancakes were biggest I have ever seen in my life. Absolutely delicious
Excellent comfort food diner
Great pancakes
Breakfast all day
Country fried steak yum
Cool local atmosphere and great service from the waitress who was quick and friendly. The food was quite tasty - but not significantly better than other diner food I have. My only real concern is the PRICE!
I ordered what’s pictured (1 pancake, biscuit, country scramble - egg cheese sausage potato and onion topped with gravy) plus coffee and it’s was 22.76 before 6$ tip. Pretty outrageously expensive 29$ for a meal that couldn’t have cost more than 10$ to make. Should’ve been less than 20$. Although I liked it I will not be back, plenty of cheaper diners out there serving the same thing.
Incredible dinner with a southern menu. Chicken and waffles were top notch
Chick fried with a pecan batter! Done to perfection Waffles were cinnamon based and pretty average not Belgium crisp and flaky
Fried green tomatoes were memorable!
Shrimp and grits among best in Charleston
Not much atmosphere but who cares when food is this good!!!!!
A spontaneous brunch date brought my husband and here. Even though it was 10:30am on a Sunday with a wait. We were sat within 10 minutes of arrival. Parking is very limited with a one way road around the back. Thankfully we had no issue finding parking.
Our server was amazing, very cheerful and pleasant. Kept tabs on us without over doing it. My husband and I reallyed our breakfast and coffee with a sweet dessert to wrap it up. The staff was amazing and serve was quick! Highly recommend!
My friends were visiting from out of town and suggested having the Early Bird Diner for breakfast. Jill was our server and she was amazing. Jill you were fantastic, I can’t thank you enough for being so kind and understanding. She was very patience and kind. The parking lot was packed and she provided great recommendations for alternative parking. The food was amazing! I had the Mac and Cheese which was fantastic and well seasoned! I also had the schnitzel sandwich with fried chicken instead of the fried pork cutlet and it was great! Hot and delicious. My friend has the chicken and waffles and absolutely loved the honey mustard. Our other friend had the Spicy honey fried chicken biscuit with side of sausage gravy and he loved it. We had no complaints. They sell artwork from different artist in the restaurant which I absolutely love. The daily specials are written on a chalk board. We later realized that Guy Fieri even dined here before and had the chicken and waffles. I will be returning and soon!
Here from savannah for a VA appointment- this place was packed wall to wall, which makes me uncomfortable (anxiety issues) but the experience was great!
Manager or owner was like a bright eyed blood hound looking for any imperfections. He was all over the place, with a smile and courteous.
Our glittery server was friendly, prompt, and attentive (and we heard you say you just got that cute beetle in the back- congrats!)
We surprisingly had no wait for a table and the drinks and food was surprisingly brought out with no wait, given we got there as the rush started.
The chicken and waffles- chicken was tender, soft fried batter… could use seasoning (I added hot sauce) but otherwise, was delicious.
The waffle was the softest waffle I’ve ever had.. not sure what they do to get it like that, but it was good and THANK YOU immensely for carrying Smuckers sugar free syrup!!
Fried pickles were fresh and hot.
This place/staff are a well oiled machine.
Will return on next VA appointment if we finish early enough.
p.s. I love the 90s cartoon wall
This a place you need to visit if in Charleston. We had breakfast/lunch here and it was delicious. It was full when we arrived, but only wanted a few minutes for a booth. Our server. (can't remember her name, but had on a strawberry shortcake shirt) was excellent. She had great recommendations for items on the menu and you could tell she had tried them. We had coffee which was bold in flavor. I had the fried tomato sandwich and my husband had country fried steak and gravy with eggs and home style potatoes. I don't think you could go wrong with any choice off the menu. To finish our meal, we had the banana pudding and it was delicious too. If you're in Charleston, definitely give them a try.
Great food and fun atmosphere. The waiter was was really nice and the food was great. My husband was not the biggest fan of their Biscuits and Gravy but the chicken and waffle was absolutely delicious the sauce and the breading on the chicken were my favorite. The price was actually pretty high for most places around. The chicken and waffles was almost $20 alone
I’ve been here countless times and it’s for a good reason. Early Bird is extremely consistent and you know what you’re getting when you come here. I’ve only ever had good experiences!! I always try to come before 9 am since it does get busy, but it’s worth the wait.
This was my family's first time here and the food was good. Great service. You could tell it was a popular place cause it was a lot of people in there.
Still love coming here when we're in town. Chicken and waffles were fabulous and they have the best grits ever! Parking is still tight but if you have to wait, it's totally worth it! Our server Shawn, was prompt, friendly and informative.
Sean, is the best waiter I have ever had the honor of being served by. I am from Texas and this young man is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
1. The chicken & waffles are the best I have had in the country! Order it, with a sweet tea!!!!! You will not be disappointed
2. This place is a vibe, you will want to come back.
Excellent pecan waffles and fried chicken. The combination of pecan waffles and maple syrup with the chicken dipped in their honey mustard BBQ sauce was crazy delicious. My wife had the buttermilk pancakes which were huge and delicious. She probably would have been good with a short stack. There was a line it the door at 10 which is a good sign, worth the wait.
Wooooo Weeeeeee!!! This is a must eat at spot in Charleston! From the service to the food, everything was awesome!! My niece cant stop talking about the “best pancake she’s ever eaten!”
The sweet potato pineapple pancake is a must special to try. My spicy chicken biscuit with cheese eggs were a hit and helped as I walked the market with the family! If you’re ever in Charleston, you have to hit this up for breakfast or lunch.
Great place I will warn you the portions are BIG I got 1 pancake and 2 sides and had to get a box. the prices are also higher. And the pancakes are cinnamon it was great but just warning for people with allergies seriously one of the best pancakes I've ever had
Grits done the way my grandmother used to make them, so creamy and full of flavor. Biscuits are square but so light and fluffy. This is a must stop while in Charleston.
Jill is a wonderful server. House made sausage, biscuits, and ice cream. Large portions and good coffee. Don't let the almost full parking lot fool you as there's plenty of space inside. Don't miss breakfast!
10/10/23 We ate breakfast there again this morning and Jade did a terrific job of serving us. Great food and coffee!
A classic diner with a little spunk! Loved the art throughout. Delicious food and great staff!
Very impressed with this diner! The chicken and waffles are incredible! The combination of honey mustard and maple syrup is oddly delicious. Tomato gravy in the grits is something different and is very refreshing in the Charleston Shrimp and Grits scene. They use King Bean coffee, which is always good, and the service was quick on a busy Sunday morning.
As a grit fanatic, I can honestly say this is the best bowl of grits I've had in my LIFE!! I was stuffed after eating my grit bowl and biscuit with pimento cheese! My friends also love the place. The customer service and wholesome, cozy vibe makes this place 5-star!
