Great lunch spot ;). I work at MUSC so this is a convenient little spot to hit for lunch. Good food, quick service, and lots of seating. I will go back to try more of their menu :)
Awesome Latte!. As a serious coffee drinker, I consider Halo one of the best places on the peninsula to get a latte. First, they serve coffee from Charleston Coffee Roasters, which is one of my favorites local roasters. Second, they aren’t the overpriced chain franchise down the street. I love the charming historic building and its unique local art work. They also have an excellent bakery selection (muffins, homemade granola bars, cookies, cheese cake, cupcakes, etc). Definitely a go to place to get your caffeine fix.
Lunch Spot Go To. The Portabella sandwich on the pretzel roll is outstanding and like no portabella sandwich I've ever had. The menu is diverse and unusual, including Mahi-Mahi and crabcake sandwiches, along with soups, salads, desserts, and coffee drinks. Prices are reasonable for Charleston lunch, the average between $6 and 9, I believe. And the employees are friendly and work with you (I have a severe nut allergy so this is important). Halo is located just across the street from the Medical University of South Carolina, making it a no-brainer for MUSC employees to jet across for a quick lunch. If you want to beat the lunch crowd, know that MUSC-ers usually start filling up the place around noon. And again, the employees are hard to beat--last week I watched the cashier run all out across the MUSC campus to catch a girl who had left her purse. Now that's service plus some.
Great place for a light breakfast to get your day started. fresh ingredients, great service. Will be coming back on my next trip.
Best Website EVER. Quickly, I must say that I rarely care what anyone else thinks of a place I rate. I chose to read some reviews and they were very solid. However, Debbie Downer ("It's ok" review) referencing the lack of menus and the trouble with "We ordered, and was not given any direction as to where we could sit"...I mean, I can't help myself, but if you need help finding a seat then you need to get a job in a sweatshop or just go to McDonalds and order yourself a simpsandwich. #Sheeple.
Anyway, this place was an experience. We were looking to order out for lunch. We found this place that has existed for 2 years and we had never heard of it. So we checked out their website. I mean, there are no words. It is the most professionally-done, interactive, efficient, make-me-come-back-for-more restaurant website I've ever experienced. So I picked up our order and sought out the manager and just told him how highly I regarded his website. I'm not sure that he has gotten a lot of compliments on his site, he seemed surprised, but I gave him a gold star anyway.
Oh, by the way, the food was good.
Good food. I got the Sassy Reuben (corned beef, pastrami sauerkraut, hot pepper cheese and bistro sauce on marble rye - $7.99) and it was absolutely delicious! I made some modifications to my sandwich, which the crew was more than happy to oblige my requests. Good location (downtown at MUSC on Ashley Ave [one-way street] right near the parking garage on the right hand side).
Parking is a bit difficult, but it's worth it.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT. I stumbled upon Halo while walking downtown (It's right across the street from MUSC). It's a quiant place with a casual, friendly feel, and AMAZING sandwiches, wraps, and desserts. The Santa Fe Chicken Wrap is awesome. I skipped the blue cheese and got ranch instead. It came with the most delicious baked potato salad. My friend had the Philly Cheesesteak. I had to fight her to take a bite!! It was delicious, and she chose the bean salad as a side. Dessert was another story! We had a chocolate chip cookie and the brownie bottom peanut butter cheesecake. DELISH!
Amazing Food!!!. While on a recent trip to Charleston, I discovered a wonderful gourmet breakfast and sandwich restaurant! The menu choices are varied and interesting! The different items that make up each delicious sandwich offer a special treat for your taste buds! The desserts are simply delicious as well! You can't go wrong for breakfast, lunch or a snack from Halo! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable led by owner Geoff Chewning. This is a great place and not to be missed! : )
It's Okay. The reviews for the place are great. I don't quite see why. Food was fine, nothing special. Customer service was lacking. We didn't even get a "hello", when we walked in the building. There was someone behind the counter, so I kind of guessed it was counter service, and had to ask where the menus are located. They had only one, that my husband, myself and kids had to share. We ordered, and was not given any direction as to where we could sit, or where to get our food. After about 10 minutes we received our breakfast. It was fine. Again, nothing special. Nothing to return for. And who serves on china plates but offers plastic ware?
Love.... This place is simply amazing great prices and great food.
The staff is very helpful and friendly i would recommend this place to anyone!
Delicious Food & Charming Atmosphere. It was a warm spring day when I first tried Halo for lunch, and it was wonderful. I ordered their best selling Fried Green tomato BLT and was delighted by the quality and taste. I would definitly return, and next time hope to try their Red Velvet Cake Donuts. The atmosphere is very charming, it is set in an old Charleston single that has been beautifully decorated, with lots of seating both indoor and on a lovely porch over a garden. I highly reccomend Halo!
Wow.. Drove 20 miles to get downtown to try a Halo Club Sandwich. While there, also had a nice sampling of Pumpkin Cream Cheese Coffee Cake.
My brother and I split both and must say it was well worth the drive. 10 minutes to Atlanta Bread, about 20-30 to Halo, and I'm going to Halo from now on. The food was absolutely delicious, had very distinct flavors, and I must say the Club was the best deli sandwich I've eaten in quite a long time. If I lived downtown, I'd no longer eat "fast food", Halo would be my choice. Amazing!
Good lunch. Very good she crab soup and turkey sandwich. Nice atmosphere. Only complaint is that the sides could use some work-both the pasta salad and carrot salad were weak and limp-no flavor
Interesting fried green tomato blt. Didn't like the goat cheese but that's my opinion. The atmosphere is great and cute.
Very small space and NO parking, but the food was very good. Omellette was great, French toast was OK.

We shared the Uptown and Bellagio - both very distinct, filling, fresh and delicious. The location is great and the upstairs balcony seating was a great spot for lunch.
Hello Halo! One of my readers suggested that we try Halo, a restaurant on Ashley Avenue across from MUSC. My readers haven't steered me wrong yet, so we decided to give it a go. Parking can be a little challenging for this restaurant, but the parking gods were smiling on us and we found a metered spot a few streets down from the restaurant. The restaurant is set up in a loveable, old, two-story old home. Both levels have outside seating which was glorious on the day we went. Ordering At Halo Upon entering the restaurant the ordering process was a bit confusing. Folks that appeared to be regulars walked right up to the register and started placing their orders. There is not a "sandwich board" or menu posted but there was a basket of paper menus by the front door. We picked up a few and started to peruse their creative menu. On the way to ordering we ogled the glass covered "jewel box" of fresh made pastries. I could see one of these treats was going to be in my immediate future. My husb
I’ve eaten here twice so far this week. It is walking distance from MUSC and we are doing a trial here on some new medical equipment. Anyway, the fries are outstanding and both sandwiches I’ve tried are wonderful. Pictured is the Turk but I also had the Clique yesterday 😄
YUM! Stopped by Halo because it was in walking distance of my Airbnb and they had iced coffee, but could not resist ordering some lunch after seeing their salad and sandwich menu. I decided to try the Santa Ana salad with mahi mahi and loved it!
Halo on Ashley Avenue in Charleston is a great place to go for delicious and well prepared sandwiches, salads, and much more. The location is very convenient when you are in the area and it is easy to get in and out with your order. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating to make sure that you have everything that you need.
This place is awesome! Great find & was a quick walk from the Clinic. The sandwich (Fried Green Tomato BLT) was so yummy! Outdoor seating was a plus.
Friendly staff, convenient location, decent coffee.
Currently carryout only, which is fine. However they require all orders, even coffee, to be placed online--which is really inconvenient. I would prefer they had some take the order in person.
Anyhow the menu looks pretty good so I look forward to checking it out when dining in resumes.
Found this little gem right across from MUSC. It's as much a life saver as the hospital! The food here is great pub fare and there are only 6 beers on tap, they do not disappoint when it comes to quality and diversity. They have plenty more bottles and cans to pick from as well.
The atmosphere is welcoming and has that old Towne feel. The view from the porch is great and the bartender was very friendly and didn't mind me chatting it up to get some history of the place.
Locals obviously love this place, and if you're visiting, it is definitely a place you should stop in at for at least a pint and take in the surroundings.
Halo is a favorite of mine. It was this hidden gem I found 6 years ago when I lived here, and now that I’m back in Charleston I couldn’t be happier to go back in there
Halo has probably the best hamburger I've ever had. Really good!
