Quirky atmosphere, good daily specials, feels like a funky diner. Been several times this year and always enjoyed the food.

I absolutely LOVE this place. It’s a long time staple in this area of Charlotte. The food is just amazing and well priced too in this crazy economy with so many inflated prices. I had the cheeseburger and green beans and I’m writing this while in a minor food coma, that’s how good it was! Jason was my server and honestly one of the best severs I’ve ever known. Highly recommended for the food, great service and ambiance to top it off.

My wife lived in CLT when she was younger and said we had to stop here as it is an institution. I must say I was really impressed. The food was awesome - southern cooked with love. One dollar PBRs keeping it real too. Dive bar in every sense of the name; quirky atmosphere, inexpensive yet delicious food, and cheap beer. Next time we’re in town we’ll be going out of our way for this joint.

I first went here 11 years ago (technically 30 but that doesn't count) Place is great. Love it. From boys night to daddy daughter nights I've loved it. Don't know when the no dinner kicked in, but I need to get there for lunch

I’ve only been here once, but I fully intend to come back. The chili was amazing. Hearty, warming, and full of flavor. The atmosphere is more on the eclectic side which I really enjoyed. Service was good. Reasonably priced. I sure hope that gentrification doesn’t take Lupie’s away from us like it has many other CLT staples.

It's been far too long in between visits. I've always enjoyed the throwback atmosphere and vibe of this establishment that has been around since 1987. It's the food, it's the staff, it's the ambiance...it's everything. In every single nook and corner, I can find something that invokes fine memories of years and decades gone past. From the murals on the exterior walls to the vinyl records and other eclectic memorabilia that abound on the interior of the restaurant. I had one of the daily specials, which was chicken and dumplings. I ordered Pinto beans with a sprinkle of cheese and freshly chopped onions. The cornbread I slathered with butter and a garden salad as well. No picture of the salad with freshly chopped tomatoes and Italian dressing. It never stood a chance. My friend ordered chili mac. There are multiple variations available for every pallet. The sweet tea was southern and fantastic. If you've never been, Go. If you have, you already know. If you took the time to read this review, please take a 1/2 second and click like. Thank you.

I don't know how many years Lupie's has been around but it's definitely been a constant staple in our house. We have visited this cute little restaurant many times and never been disappointed. We have tried all their chili, chili with pasta or nachos, we also had their banana pudding. It's a great place to try out some vegetarian chili as well. During our last visit we had the nachos with veggie chili and let me tell you, while people complain that portions are getting smaller in other places, I feel like at Lupies the portion getting bigger every time we visit! So please put this business on your list for your next dinner and you won't regret it!

I've loved this place for a while. I used to go regularly when I worked near it, but it's been years and years. I went yesterday and tried something new. Another customer suggested the daily special - chicken and dumplings and it was good. I usually get the chili-mac and that is amazing! Nothing against the special, but the chili mac is ridiculously good. The portions are perfect, that bowl is magical. It looks like a small/medium portion, but it is deceptively large. I'm always stuffed when I walk out - ready for the rest of my day. Thanks for being there guys. Great place.

I ordered the Cincinnati-style chili with spaghetti noodles and cheese. I did have to clarify, because the menu said Mac+cheese which means elbow macaroni and shredded cheese and I just wanted to make sure i wasn’t getting chili on top of a bowl of Macaroni and cheese. The server was very helpful. The portion was large and came with a piece of cornbread. I wasn’t a big fan of the cornbread and had enough starch with the spaghetti noodles. The atmosphere is kitschy and quaint.

I was trying decide on where to go for dinner. I was in the mood for a burger and this place is nearby. I was by myself and was gonna take it to go but I decided to dine in. I ordered a Chili Slaw Cheeseburger. The bun is good quality and the burger itself is large in size. The chili is also homemade and very spicy. I would eat here again. The service was good and friendly as well.

This has been on my list for quite some time so when we got back late on New Year's from holiday travels and didn't have time to go grocery shopping for the week, we decided to try this for dinner the next night. Since they're known for their chili, we had to get it. They have 4 different kinds: Cincinnati, Texas, Vegetarian, and Southern. I really wanted to try them all in some kind of chili flight but there was no option for that. We decided to try 3: Cincinnati with spaghetti, Texas with mac and cheese, and a cup of Southern. Both of us agreed that the Texas was by far the best, followed by the Cincinnati, and we did not like the Southern. The Texas was spicy and delicious with great flavor. It went great with the mac and cheese. My husband loves Skyline chili (from Cincinnati). We knew it wouldn't be the same, but judging it on it's own instead of comparing, it didn't quite do it for me. It was lacking a bit of flavor. I couldn't put my finger on what I didn't like about the Southern, but there was some flavor that neither of us liked at all. All of them came with cornbread. I don't need my cornbread to be sweet, but this cornbread was very dry and lacking flavor. You get a ton of food for the price. We mostly didn't eat the cup of chili we got since we didn't like it and both left stuffed. It's a table service restaurant, but it's incredibly fast. They took our order and had our food out in less than 10 minutes. Once you're done eating you pay at the register. I will say on the service side, our waiter was not very helpful with recommendations. We were trying to ask for recommendations on chili types and what would go best together and he didn't give us any help. All in all, the food was cheap, fast, and some of it was quite tasty. I would come back again for the Texas chili but probably not anything else.

Loved the big tables in the back! Service was nice and friendly. Hubby order Nachos and we could belive how huge the portions were! Prices are decent. Friend didn't think the Cincinnati Chili tasted like home, but it smelled good. Going again for thr Meatloaf I keep hearing raves about! Definitely worth another visit!

Moved to NC 4-years ago and it was my first time attending the Southern Christmas Show in Charlotte, NC because a friend from VA was at the show,. He invited us to go dinner after hours and went to Lupie's Cafe. Wow, I was so happy to go to a mom and pop small business place. The food is very good, the staff very professional and quick to attend your order. If you go try the BBQ plate...it was so delicious!! You would not be disappointed.

Cool spot with interesting decor, good food and awesome service. Only down side is there isn't a ton of parking. Today I had the special, chicken casserole with green beans and squash. The squash was overcooked but that seems a normal southern thing so it can't really be a bad thing I guess. Ha. For overcooked squash, it was the best I've ever eaten. The beans were great and the casserole was a bit different than I'm used to but that was a good thing. It tasted fantastic. I wished they had mashed potatoes to go with as that would have been awesome but i was pretty pleased. Big portion. I really could have boxed up leftovers and had enough for another small meal. They gave a good beer selection with a few funky local favorites. Great stop! I recommend. My friend had a hot dog so I put a pic of it on this post too. It looked awesome.

The food is absolutely amazing and the prices are extremely reasonable the salad is fresh and full of flavor. It's big enough for 2 people. The atmosphere is very laid back and cozy, but also has a new hip feel to it. The music played is something everyone can enjoy. They have daily specials the meatloaf is hands down my favorite. So if you are eating on a budget and want good home cooked food this is the place.

I have passed this restaurant so many times and the several years that I've lived in the Charlotte but I've never stopped until recently. Now I'm kicking myself because I have missed out for so long. This is a eclectic, fun place with great food. Just be careful if you order the full nachos. One person cannot possibly eat all of it. But it would be great to share.
