Wow. I swear if I was stranded on a deserted island, I could survive on these turnip greens alone. The catfish, tilapia, and whiting are on the money. The people are genuine which makes you comfortable being there. I absolutely love places like this and just wish there were more like it.
We stopped in here for two reasons: The reviews online and my wife has an Uncle Larry, so we thought it'd be funny. The food was terrific. Everything was great, with big portions. Do yourself a favor and get the hushpuppies while you're at it, they're awesome. I'll recommend this place to anyone. Don't be put off by it's rough exterior, or no frills kind of interior, everybody is friendly and the food is great.
Wife and I are here in Chattanooga to visit and she was craving catfish. This IS the place to go. Larry is a great host. The fish and shrimp are THE BOMB!! You can't go wrong here. It's no wonder they are rated 5 stars. Will definitely be back !!

Great small family owned restaurant with fantastic fish, greens and okra. Felt like home with Larry and Kevin. Prices were great. I will return.
Finally some down home southern cooking!!. I stumbled upon Uncle Larry's as I was craving some good fried catfish one night. After a quick google search, I discovered this place. It was exactly what I was looking for, a hole in the wall, with a small menu that keeps it's focus on fish. I ordered the catfish plate, with okra and turnip greens, and an order of fried green tomatoes. WOW--the fish was huge & perfectly fried, the greens may just be the best I've ever had. I could only eat one piece of fish, so ended up with enough for lunch for the next day. And this meal was $8, plus $3 for the fried green tomatoes, what a bargain! The two staff members were super friendly. There was a steady stream of people coming in while I was there, most picking up to go orders, and the phone was ringing with orders about the whole time I was there. I will definitely be back, and hope Chattanooga will support this local business!
The best fried catfish in Chattanooga. Just like one other reviewer said, I have eaten a LOT of catfish from a LOT of restaurants. Fried catfish is probably my favorite food. And let me say, emphatically, this is THE BEST fried catfish I have ever eaten anywhere in my life, and it's not even close. This blows everyone else out of the water. If you like fried fish, you are doing yourself a huge disservice if you haven't eaten at Uncle Larry's.
Absolutely loved loved the food and hospitality! It truly is a hidden gem. We will definitely be coming back next time we are in town.
Great food! Catfish was great, coleslaw was just right and the okra was the best ive had. Way cheap for the ammount of food you get. Service was helpful and very nice family type.
Oh let's begin with you & nice. There I was leaving Pam Ladd's kick off 4 county commish - was hungry ~~~ and Uncle Larry's flitted across mind. OK, read good things in some review and a FB post - then to find it - was it Main or MLK - since I was at Hart Gallery on Main - the quest started there but moved quickly to MLK Blvd. Found it -- right across from UTC (2 students were getting takeout). Uncle Larry takes your order - by cash register. I order a fried fish plate (2 side and white or wheat brd - I had fries & slaw - slaw quite good; fries, ok for frozen - fresh taters would be such a boon) - Quickly the fishes appeared - more than I could eat. It was quite good & and enuf for next day's lunch. Well worth the $7.00. Uncle Larry is a hoot - stop and chat. Ooh Ooh - meant to have a slice of their key lime cake but decided I didn't need a sugar rush ~~~~ y'all come

O Fish A lay Smacked. If you drive East from Miller Plaza a few miles up MLK look for the awesome black & white mural of MLK Jr. on your right and your there. Uncle Larry's has got some really good fish sandwiches. I really enjoyed the light Southern cornmeal breading with its own little spice. The flavor profile reminds me of a good ole' back yard fish fry with its Old Bay and cayenne flavors. The Tilapia is my favorite, Catfish filets were huge and cooked nicely, and I had Whiting too. All were really great ! Larry your doing some great fried fare, your neighbors down the road @ Champy's had the same humble beginnings , stay @ it the fish eaters will find you real soon. I would suggest to attract more of the Foodies in the area add a Creole , or Gulf Coast style steamed Shrimp, maybe a fresh catch that's baked daily, or other non fried options. Your desserts are very good, again I'm reminded of a good BBQ style backyard Fish Fry . . . Awesome Comfort Food, Big portions, I finished the meal with a southern mud pie and peanut butter cup insane good thing I ate ... It was unique and we fought over the last bite. The best I could tell is that almost everything is home made by Uncle Larry with a bunch of his kin folk. I would love to see you do catering for outdoor fish frys this summer. I will be back soon.
Best catfish EVER!! We read a great review about Uncle Larry's restaurant in the Chattanooga Times Free Press so decided to try it. SO glad we did!!
We both chose the catfish plate which comes with two sides. First and foremost, the catfish was absolutely the best we EVER tasted....and we've tasted a LOT of catfish from a LOT of restaurants. There was a unique and delicious mixture of flavors in the breading .... and it was fried to perfection!! The two filets were huge! For sides I had the pasta salad and the cucumber salad. My husband had the cole slaw and the fried okra. Each side was uniquely flavorful.
We will definitely visit Uncle Larry's on a regular basis!!
We'll be back for more awesome catfish and killer slaw!
