We stayed at the Wit and had a great experience both times we visited State and Lake during our visit. Brunch (both Benedict’s were fantastic) was delicious and service was on point. A visit to the bar following evening was delightful. Delicious cocktails and friendly bartenders. Loved the live music as well! Highly recommend!
Just walked in cold off the street on Saturday afternoon, because the fast food spots were crowded.
So we just popped our heads in, checked out the menu. The staff was very nice so we sat down for a snack and ordered the chicken wings and tavern burger from their Bites + Plates menu. Oh my...
We liked it so much that we stopped by this morning for breakfast, sharing, the Breakfast 201 North and the Andouille Omelet.
Food delicious and service outstanding.
Oh, and we are coming back in the future, to check out the dinner menu.
We had an amazing time. Chef Nathan greeted us and Patrick (our server) was warm, engaged and helpful. The 72 hour braised short rib, NY strip and burger were all delicious. Do not skip appetizers or dessert
Original burger was fantastic, but the new burger on the changed menu is mind blowing. This is one of my favorite burgers in the city (and I eat a lot of burgers haha). Service is great and everything is reasonably priced! I Will be back!
Went to the restaurant for Sunday brunch... great, and unique, food. The malted waffles and chicken was fantastic as was the crispy brisket hash. Great service, too.
On Monday, May 8th, me and 10 other nurses decided to have lunch here. We had just left a taping of Windy City Live. What a wonderful choice. Everything was excellent and everyone in our group was pleased. Our server, Lauren, was the best. Everyone was so nice, patient, and gave us a great dining experience.
Absolutely delicious food!! Atmosphere was great! We ordered from the St. Patty's day menu. Amazing! Our sever, Patrick, was great. Very attentive, took great care of us.
Patrick was our server and he was the BEST!!!!! Drinks were great too 😏

Love the service‼️ people are so nice and accommodating😊 The FOOD is so different and very tasty 😋
I ordered the Poutine, Pimento Cheese Dip with Chips, and Soft Pretzel with Red Pepper and Goat Cheese Dip. The Poutine came with bacon and peas and was super cheesy and delicious, not weighed down in gravy like Poutine can be. The Pimento Dip was good, but far and away, the real winner was the pretzel with goat cheese and red pepper dip. It tasted like a jalapeño popper without being fried, and the pretzel was crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside.
Nice place for happy hour. $5 beers and inexpensive bites. Attentive bartenders. Right next door to the Wit so very convenient to the hotel and theatre district.
Wow what an incredible experience enjoying a famous Chicago Dog at one of the best restaurants in Chicago. It was within walking distance from our hotel and the Dog, Polish Sausage, and Italian sausage met all our expectations. Especially the Chicago Dog!
We stopped in last night after work for drinks and appetizers. I was disappointed they haven't jumped on the Happy Hour train yet and they didn't have any specials. But I really liked the cocktail I ordered, the Mistress - a cool, refreshing grapefruit flavored drink. If you like grapefruit, you'll love this cocktail. My husband got the Blueberry Vandermill Cider and got a free State/Lake coosie with each can.
For food we tried the Poutine, Pimento Cheese Dip with Chips, and Soft Pretzel with Red Pepper and Goat Cheese Dip. I don't usually like goat cheese, but I loved this. And the presentation of all the dishes was creative.
The only downside was the service. Apparently we got caught in a shift change and had quite the time trying to track someone down to pay our bill (like 20+ minutes of waiting for someone give our money to). Luckily the food and drinks were on point, so this didn't sully our experience too much.
Great food and service. All of the hotel staff is great! Had breakfast with the family, his have the chicken and waffles. Lightly smoky and delicious. The bacon was smoky peppered and large, perfectly cooked.
Decent Hotel Dining. While recently in Chicago on business decided rather than search for food it was easier and quicker to dine in my hotel, The WIT.
It was Monday, there was lots of table availability and the service was attentive. I ordered the fish tacos. They were made with swordfish, pan-seared, and served with a fresh slaw, and avocado ranch on corn tortillas with a spicy salsa sauce on the side.
I thought these tacos were a bit pricey ($16) but had a good taste. I felt the slaw was freshly prepared but the dish was light on fish. The burgers were recommended to me and I think I would go that route the next time.
If you are looking for a quick meal in a pub atmosphere, there are lots of interesting 'starters' on the menu as well as good old staples like burgers. Give it a try.

Granted, it was Sunday night, but my server was capable and amiable; I found nothing discomfiting or distasteful about the atmosphere. And the food - the food! The salmon with chorizo, escarole & giant white beans was a different and oh so delicious combination of flavors. Paired with local Two Brothers ales, the first simply smooth & creamy, the second hoppy & strong, (reminiscent of my favorite King Wm Cask Ale at Blue Star in San Antonio) - excellent. Angel food cake for dessert - a deliciously surprising thin cake topped with vanilla ice cream and carmelized bananas... O M G. OK, no matter what the service may be at busier times -you're not here to eat the service. I'll definitely be back for another tasty surprise.

Find me a brunch place that puts out a good spread and shows the game and I'm in," Brandy relented Bailey picked State and Lake Chicago Tavern, a sports bar on the classy side, located on the ground floor of the Wit Hotel in the Loop. Arriving outside, Brandy was a little more than skeptical, mostly because of a certain experience with another restaurant associated with The Wit , but began to feel more at ease once she'd stepped inside and was greeted by a host of greetings from the staff...Bailey was handed a glass with ice and vodka, while Brandy was given a glass half full with champagne, and they were both directed to a spot coked full with mix ins, garnishes, and condiments. Bailey was delighted to be able to pour her own portion of the house made Bloody Mary mix, sprinkle in the perfect amount of hot sauce, and create a custom skewer with olives, cheese curds, and even bacon.
Beautiful rooms, friendly staff, and delicious cookies at the check in desk whenever you crave them! Anyway, the State and Lake Chicago Tavern is the restaurant located in The Wit hotel (@theWitChicago), and serves up pub and bistro inspired food. To maximize our time experiencing the city, my friends and I ended up eating breakfast here one morning.
The food is good and the menu interesting with many options. State & Lake has earned a spot as a regular option for casual sit-down lunches.
Family and I went to this tavern the other night. It's located inside the WIT Hotel. Nice ambiance, food was pretty good, except for the beet salad, which was not really a beet salad. Drinks were somewhat small, not to mention very pricey. The crab cakes stood out. Service was nice as well.
Getting seated took a few minutes since the restaurant was empty with nobody around. Water was brought immediately. The server appeared to take our drink orders. The server soon took our dinner order with a great suggestion for exchanging out the gluten fries for a Caesar salad. All 4 of us tremendously enjoyed our meals. Our water did get empty a few times but staff always appeared soon, apologized and refilled. The bathroom was clean. There is a bar area. Absolutely one of the best steaks I have had in a while! Even the Caesar dressing was so much better than normal.
Excellent birthday dinner. There are no words for the banana pudding. Absolutely divine! Staff is very attentive.
Amazing food and service. I loved this place. On Sunday they do brunch and lunch menu at a later time after 2
A large group of 13 of us went here for dinner while in town for a work conference. They couldn’t accommodate all of us at one table so they split us up at adjacent tables (for 8 and 5). The server was very attentive and friendly.
We ordered various items including burgers, grilled chicken, pasta dishes and steak. All were very happy with our dishes, both in terms of taste and portion size except for one colleague who ordered the steak. She had ordered it medium rare and it came back well done. She let the server know and he was quick and responsive, taking her plate and bringing back another steak awhile later. Though she said it was a bit better, she felt it was still medium well, and not medium rare.
Otherwise we were happy with our meal and the venue itself. Only one other inconvenience was our inability to pay separately. The server indicated he could only take 4-5 credits cards total and split the bill evenly. One person ended up paying and we ended up figuring out how much we owed her. This part was a bit problematic because a few of us also needed itemized receipts for reimbursement from work.
The burger was flavorless and not cooked evenly, and the cheese overpowered the bacon. I had to actually check and see if there was bacon. The fries were cooked perfect, but had no flavor. Not worth the money. The good news is the staff is fantastic and it is worth going for drinks. But you may want to pass on the burger. Try something different.
The food is good. I have eaten here for breakfast, lunch and dinner over the course of my stay here.
The pork chilaquiles are great for breakfast as well as the 201 breakfast, and breakfast burrito.
Lunch I had the impossible burger a few times, it was great every time. The truffle veganaise is the best part of the burger.
I had multiple salads and the rigatoni for dinner all great.
I will definitely come back again.
The food is a step above "Tavern food". The service was great. It is located right inside "the Witt" hotel. No need to go anywhere else tomorrow night.
A great burger place. The atmosphere is warm and upscale. Service was great. The food was great. If you're in the area it's definitely worth visiting.
Great ambience food and staff. We had Brussels sprouts, shrimp cocktail and burrata for appetizers. Streak frites and rigatoni for main course. Banana pudding, carrots and chocolate cake 🥰🥰
This place is somewhat formal and rather expensive, but the food is very good.
Super great experience at this location. We went for dinner and came a little early for our reservation but they were kind enough to seat us early. The food was delicious but the Brussels sprouts looked amazing so if we go back we will definitely switch up the fries for Brussels. My husband had the salmon and I had the burger. Both were delicious!
Solid food-came as a party of 7 and good service!
Close to the Chicago theater, this place takes reservations and is within walking distance to the shows. The food is delicious and they have a great drink menu as well. Service was excellent.

My family and I ate here multiple times while staying at the Wit. Everything we ordered was prepared well and tasty. I did not give the restaurant 5 stars, because the service was iffy, and the vibe at night was not great. It felt like a spot light was on our table, and the music choice was odd.
Delicious burger… split it with my boyfriend. Good call, it was a sizable burger. Great atmosphere and friendly staff!
