In town for business and decided to go with a coworker to have a nice Midwestern steak since visiting from Florida. Based on the recommendations of coworkers from the area, Chicago chophouse did not disappoint. Everything from the service to the food to the atmosphere was fantastic. If you are in town and you’re looking for an old fashion original chophouse, this establishment has been open for 40 years and the quality would rival any restaurant in the country in my opinion. Prices are on par and the portions are much larger than other establishments we have visited. I recommend the lobster bisque to start, and then the dry rub fillet, with a smoked old fashion cocktail. Normally not a dessert eater but the table next to us order the New York style cheesecake with the graham cracker crust and raspberry topping so we decided that was for us and a good choice it was. I have eaten all over this country at several high-end steakhouses, and this truly was one of the best meals I ever had not just because of the food, but the history, the atmosphere, and the quality of service from the hostess to Victor checking in to see how our meal was. There’s something to be said about the traditional values of an original steakhouse with a level of service that seems to be forgotten in today’s market. You’re not just paying for a quality meal you’re also paying for the atmosphere and the memories that are made in a historical setting that this chophouse has offered for over 40 years. Great job team!
Visiting Chicago for a long weekend and had a great experience at the Chicago Chop House! The server Alex was extremely kind and knowledgeable regarding the menu! He made great recommendations as well! Best crab cake we’ve had since our Baltimore trip! I had the Miso Bass and the flavor profile was sweet and savory and cooked perfectly!! My husband had the Parmesan chicken and it was cooked well, saucy, and cheesy! Overall a great experience!
Exceptional experience! Our server Dan was awsome, very knowledgeable and a connoisseur of all the menu items! The food was outstanding and the music and ambiance were amazing! Highly recommend it as a fine dining experience it if you're in town!
I would rate 10 stars if I could. From the moment you hand your keys to valet the experience was top notch. We were warmly greeted, doors opened for us, and shown our way up to the second floor. The memorabilia and warm environment was so cozy and inviting. The music playing was perfect and really tied the meal together! I loved looking around and the view from upstairs was gorgeous. Gabriel promptly got started with our table and perfectly explained the menu, dry and wet aging, and even told us his personal favorites to try. Our drink glasses were never empty and every staff member we conversed with with so nice and we could tell they appreciated us being there. The filet was cooked to perfection and so tender you could cut it with a spoon! The chicken Parmesan with noodles was out of this world. So light and tasty! None of the food was greasy and everything was plated with care. Gabriel chatted with us for a good while and told us a bit about the city (he is a native) and we left feeling like we had gained a friend. Thank you Chicago chop house for being a gem in the city of Chicago. We will be back! Don’t miss this opportunity you will not regret it.
Gabriel thank you!! It was a pleasure meeting you and we hope to see you again. We wish this business nothing but success and longevity!
My boyfriend took me to Chicago Chophouse for my birthday and it was my favorite part of our Chicago trip! We sat on the outside patio and had the absolute best service by Alex. Alex made our experience incredibly fun and special. The food was phenomenal and I can’t wait to go back!

Thank You for such an Amazing Experience Gabriel! Food was delicious!
If you have ever look at an international travel guides from other countries for Chicago, Chicago Chop House is definitely in it, along with Excalibur (Tao), Red Head etc. Indeed this establishment is defintely one of the historic landmark restaurants in Chicago and they have kept their menu mostly the same over the years which is good thing. However, given the fact that we are within 5 mins walk to here, and we have only been here a handful of times over the past 15 years, our lastest visit just reminded me the reason(s).
The atmosphere both indoors and outdoors are great, very attentive staff and experienced. The quality of the menu items were mostly exceptional, I have to say that the lobster bisque was one of the best that I have tried, along with the bone marrow and the burrata. The steaks on the other hand were just OK, while the temperature was acceptable, the meat quality of the filet was considered mediocre for me, and there is almost no seasoning on it. I had to borrow some au jus from the prime rib on the table. Speaking of the prime rib (weekends only) was over seasoned even just by itself, so with the au jus it becomes way too salty. I got tired from cutting it, maybe it was the knives (all 4of them). We have not experienced this in the past so this is where we are seeing the inconsistency, and the reason why we don't come as often as we should.
Gabriel is the best. He provided excellent service and helped us choose a delicious meal. He explained the difference between the dry and wet aged steak and made excellent recommendations. He was very patient with our large group and answered all of our questions. The food was delicious. I would highly recommend this steak house for a group dinner or date night.
Came here on a weekend "boys trip" with my dad and brother. We live in California but dad is from St Louis and he loves a good steak house (as do i) got this one from a us attorney who was born here with two other places. This is the only one that had space so we came here. It's in a super old building, like early 20th century. The decor is incredible and you'll want to look at the different floors. We were on the second floor. Steak house experience was great, great service, steaks were great, price was favorable compared to similar spots in la or (shudder) NYC. Plus, it's Chicago so you kind of have to. Keep in mind it's a retro vibe so make sure you aren't looking for that super slick, chain steak house experience.
Chicago Chop House can't be beat! The ONLY way to experience how good the food and service is by making a reservation and discovering how delectable it is. Thanks Dan for making our dining experience even more enjoyable!
