It's nearly impossible to pick a favorite dish – they're all SO good. I had the hash and it blew me away... so did the salad and mushroom melt. Great service as well, and I love that I can shop while I wait to eat!

The cutest most delicious brunch spot. The staff is so friendly. They sell Christmas cookies for the season & they are so yummy I recommend picking up a box once you've finished shopping & eating you won't be disappointed!
The best brunch in Chicago, hands down! I always take guests here when they're in from out of town and Southport Grocery never disappoints. The grilled coffee cake is amazing!
This is my favorite brunch spot in Chicago. The food is delicious and the service is impeccable. This is first on my list for any out of town guests.
Southport Grocery has an adorable cafe & delicious food. Would definitely recommend!
The food is excellent! And they have "to die for pancakes"! A must try if you go here!
The best cupcakes in town, hands down! Whatever you choose, you can't go wrong.
The food and service is fantastic!! You might even spot a celebrity sometimes!
One of my favorite places in Chicago! So adorable and the food is delicious.
Great food! Great atmosphere, lunch or breakfast just hits the spot!
It's delicious! Usually a little wait but well worth it!
Awesome find for a great breakfast and a super delicious Bloody Mary!!
Went for the Bread Pudding Pancakes, they didn't disappoint. But fell in love with the Chicken & Grits!
Just went for the first time and really enjoyed the food and service. Our waiter was very helpful and lovely. We had some questions and she knew all about the dishes, which isn’t often the case. Her recommendations were also good.
I was a big fan of the gooey and delicious, low key sweetness of the bread pudding pancakes.
The grilled corn and cheese sandwich was a standout. Think of creamy elotes in sandwich form. Really creamy and flavorful.
The red potato mash is very sour cream and chive forward and I found it delicious.
My quiche was a little lacking in flavor, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that. But it’s a big portion which some might appreciate.
Quaint and delicious brunch spot! I’m not a stranger to Southport Grocery, but this brunch trip was an especially wonderful experience. The cafe is nestled in a small, hand-selected store front and cafe which gives it its quaint and charming feel. I ordered a chai latte to drink and the Chorizo & Eggs. When I tell you this dish was so flavorful I am not kidding. I will definitely be ordering this dish again. It was the perfect balance of flavors and textures… I’ve never had anything quite like it. Highly recommend stopping by for food and perusing the grocery after. YUM!
First Tymer! This place is a MUST!!! The food & drinks are sooooo good. The banana pudding pancakes may be the best pancake I ever had. Brunch ends at 3pm. It’s a small spot but there is out door seating and the food is so worth it
I think the dishes here are hit or miss.
I wasn’t really impressed with most of the food I have ordered from here.
The only thing that saved this from lower rating is the service and the quiche and salad. The quiche served here is the best quiche I have ever had in my life. Absolute must try. The salad pairing is also delicious. They give you a generous amount of both.
We love this place. The food is excellent. We got the hash with wheat toast and biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs on top. The biscuits are the best I have had in Chicago. The pulled pork gravy is absolutely amazing. The staff are very friendly. They were apologizing to us when we accidentally spilled our coffee cream. Completely our fault and thank you for being so helpful in cleaning it up. The free cupcake for checking in on yelp was also amazing. The seating is community so you can be potentially set next to louder people. But everyone was very friendly. Definitely recommend if in Southport.
Cute little place with some very tasty food. We ate outdoors (busy Sunday noon). A bit of a wait but well worth it. The grilled coffee cake is an A+ that we split in addition to the brisket hash. The hash is a hearty dish and we all enjoyed it (all of us ordered it because it sounded so good). Putting it in the rotation for sure.
Overall: Delicious, charming, and charming, brunch doesn't get much better!
The good: Superb tasting food, the quiche was fantastic and the coffee cake was well done. The variety of the menu puts a fun twist on brunch. I'm sure the non-breakfast options are great. Charming atmosphere and also tons of to-go bakery items and bakery spices and goods.
The bad: Small space, especially if the outside is closed. Tight squeezes. Service can be hindered due to that. Menu, while great, good of had a few more options. Long wait
Atmosphere: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Food: 10/10
Delicious breakfast. I had the gravy and biscuits, the brisket in the gravy was bomb. And the rice pancake with cinnamon sauce ….mouthwatering
Really enjoyed the soup and sandwich!
Highly recommend.
The food was amazing! I thought super highly of the grilled coffee cake! My gal enjoyed the southern omelet and I enjoyed the breakfast sandwich. Loved the cute coffee mugs!
Service was a little subpar for a fairly not busy morning.
Fantastic! The food is nicely prepared and tastes fresh and clean. One of my favorite breakfast and brunch spots in Chicago. The food here is very comforting and satisfying. Recommended!
Great local spot here. The hash and bread pudding pancakes were absolutely fabulous. Fun hipster staff and a nice eating area outside if the weather is nice. Our second time and will certainly come back again.
Love to try different breakfast spots, and I must say hands down the service was great and the food was wonderful. Their take on hash is one of a kind the potatoes and veggies were julianed and made it easy to get everything in one bite. And those Pancakes, the Bread pudding solo and Cupcake solo was a great idea in order to taste both. No wait, laid back and you can grab a few needed items for the house as you check out.
This place is so good I went there twice in 3 days. Fresh ingredients, delicious combos, and relaxed atmosphere. The brisket hash bowl is amazing. Coffees are around $4.5 or $2.5 for bottomless. They have a market in the building but the products are insanely expensive so I wouldn't buy them. This review is really just for the restaurant.
Second trip to Southport Grocery and Cafe. Excellent both times. First time I had the Brisket Hash, second time I tried the Brisket and Gravy dish. Their ingredients taste extremely fresh - eggs were cooked to perfection, brisket was tender and flavorful, it was also proportioned well throughout (not too little meat), the gravy was thick, and they have some tasty hot sauce to add some spice here and there. They also serve delicious coffee. Love this place.
