Where do I even begin? First thank God I found this place on Yelp when searching for a new restaurant. When I saw the pictures I knew I had to go. This is our second visit to Luella's (first time was a couple weeks ago. Yes it's that good you'll be back too) and excuse my French but holy shit the food is literally so freaking amazing!!! I got the same thing as last time which was the Shrimp and Grits, and my husband got the fried chicken (last time Mac and cheese). We also got the biscuits with jam. Now I have never in my life ate grits that I enjoyed, but the picture looked so good I had to try. Lord have mercy this is hands down the best meal I've ever eaten! Those creamy grits ,with huge shrimp and Cajun sauce is literally a party in your mouth. It's so good you just want to sing and dance! My husbands fried chicken was literally the best fried chicken we've ever eaten. How do you get the skin so crispy with the meat so I juicy? Ah! And with the honey? The best you will eat! The collard greens were also absolutely delicious! The biscuits with jam just melt in your mouth. They are so warm, flaky, and pair perfectly with the tart sweet jam!! The best! They also have the best sweet tea I've ever had! The service is absolutely wonderful here. The staff is so kind and has always made us feel welcomed. The food is freshly made with fresh ingredients and I can't wait to bring friends and family. You can tell how much love the chef puts into his food and I thank you for sharing it with us! Officially my favorite restaurant ever!

This is the real deal - top notch Southern cooking with down-home flavor! My wife said it was the best gumbo she's had since we were in New Orleans, and the home-made biscuits recommended by the friendly woman behind the counter were the perfect accompaniment. Another in our party had the shrimp & grits and loved it! I had the fried catfish tacos, which were crispy & delicious! The staff were all so friendly you felt like you were at a friend's house for dinner!

Fantastic recipes! The chicken and waffles were the best I’ve ever had! Crispy chicken with a sweet and spicy glaze exceeded my expectations! I sampled my friends French toast and immediately regretted not ordering my own side dish! They were thickly sliced loaded with flavor! Not to mention the shrimp and grits were insanely well balanced in flavor! Please do not attend I certainly do not want to wait any longer than I do when I visit this amazing restaurant!! 🔥❤️🔥

Incredible food and great service. I went for Sunday brunch and could literally taste the love and passion that goes into the food prepared at Luella’s. From the gorgeous, fluffy, fresh-made beignets to the most delectably mind-blowing, house-made brown sugar maple challah french toast to the shrimp & grits and the chicken & waffles to the perfect collards... So. Dang. Good.

Such delicious food! Had the shrimp and grits, cornbread, and mac and cheese! So good that I wanted to scrape every bit of the sauce out of the dish! Oh yes, for sure will be back! Great and comfortable atmosphere in the restaurant and the staff was wonderful, coming by several times to make sure that everything was good and if we needed anything else. Food cooked to order and was super fresh.

Truly one of my favorite spots in the entire city. I can't describe how good that French toast was. The only thing as good as the brunch menu at Luella's is the kind, welcoming staff.

Kale ambrosia and catfish tacos were excellent. Strongly recommended. Service was great. Catfish was deep fried in corn meal. Kale ambrosia had pineapple, candied pecans, coconut, goat cheese, and bits of orange in a light vinegarette. Small place, near Lincoln Square.

We love it! The fried chicken is so moist and delicious. My favorite is the chicken gumbo. Anyway, we are hoping to stop by for the chicken and waffles soon!

We had the fried chicken, and it was the best fried chicken I have ever had in ANY restaurant! The collard greens were great too (not to mention the skillet corn bread with honey butter)! This was our second time there, and we are planning to return for the brunch - soon.

The food here was so deliciously good, all of it and service was absolutely amazing! Definitely highly recommend. I had the chicken and waffle with the “Nashville “ sauce on the side. If you can handled the hot spicy go ahead and it’ll come out fully dipped in it. No radio but real records playing.

Food takes a little longer because fresh make. Best fried chicken in the areas. I have tried a few southern food restaurants around the area, and this place is the best. Crispy, juicy, well seasoning, and good portion for the price. House hot sauce is a little salty for my taste. Buttermilk fried chicken, Nashville hot chicken, shrimp, and grits, Mac n cheese or skillet Cornbread I have tried it all and it amazing. Delicious food and best perfect service. No, byob only soft drinks.

The place is very small and a bit hard to find if you aren't using a GPS... The menu is a small menu but it packs a punch! We had the Nashville chicken and waffles, as well as the shrimp and sausage Mac and cheese. The food was fantastic! Would highly recommend the food for sure, my only issues with the place I had over all was I believe the girl running the place was a little Spacey and we had to ask a few times for things here and there but a very minor thing.... but the food! I posted a few photos for everyone! If you want some Nashville hot chicken with flavor throughout this is the place to go pry the best Nashville Hot I've ever had!

Food was delicious 😋!! And great atmosphere. We ordered the Nashville hot chicken (spicy), greens, and Mac n cheese. Food was so flavorful and it’s byob so we brought some champagne and owner brought out ice bucket to keep it chilled. Definitely would recommend!

We walked in Sunday night randomly since we were in Lincoln square and most places were closed this evening. Not knowing what to expect we tried opening the door( more like prying them open since they were closed and we didn’t know that) but people standing outside said they open at 5. So we waited two minutes til the doors opened and sat our selves down, taking about five minutes to take in the environment and process the menu. You can order on your phone on their website or at the counter. Not knowing what to expect I ordered Nashville hot chicken - sub. with grits instead of waffles and my friend ordered the Mac n cheese. We Didn’t want to over order in case we didn’t like it. When the food came we were totally taken aback. The Nashville chicken was aahhhmazing and perfectly spiced, grits were cheesy, and Mac n cheese was to die for! As someone who is used to enjoying spicy, flavorful food it’s hard to find Indian or southern food that is well flavored and not oily. I usually always ask for hot sauce and was surprise that no such need arose. Thank you chef Darnell and staff for making my Sunday evening after a very stressful weekend relaxing, flavorful delicious. Ps. We ended up ordering the cherry dessert ( I can’t place exact name) and corn bread later on which were pretty amazing too.

A little bit different as far as operation compared to other restaurants, but it works!!!! I remember having to order online and pay before the food was prepared, but once it was OMG let me tell you, flavor explosion!!!!! So much love and effort was put into making sure every bit was as delicious as the first and presented with care. It was definitely worth the stop and definitely worth the flowers. If you haven't tried, give a shot, they will NOT disappoint.

I know it must be good just based on how busy the restaurant was. Now this restaurant is a bit on the pricier side, but what good one isn't nowadays. Food was so delicoius, and we were able to get something everyone enjoyed, even our young boys who are typically picky were fans. The chicken was so crispy and tender (and a small bottle of smoked honey to drizzle on), Greens were perfect, cornbread was buttery, and Mac and cheese was the part. One place we definitely will be visiting again since we all agree it was bomb 💣 lol

The food here is absolutely incredible. Best food in Chicago. And the portions are amazing. Great prices as well You order from a qr code on the table and see what's available for the day. We had shrimp Mac and cheese, salmon cakes, and biscuits. Chef is really cool. The place is super homey, No Bs. And the area is great for a stroll

Amazing food! We had a great time speaking to Gregory. When we go back to Chicago we will definitely be stopping by again. The chicken is phenomenal and the honey gave it the right amount of sweetness.💜 the greens are to die for! Overall one of the best southern kitchens I have been to. Get the biscuits and gravy, you won't be disappointed. The only thing I didn't like was the wait time for our food...but sometimes the wait is worth it😍 it was!

Stopped in to try another tik tok inspired adventure and Luella’s did not disappoint. The biscuits were big but soft and fresh. Splitting it opens layering the eggs, bacon and jam 🥹🥹😋😋😋. Service was great, friendly staff and it didn’t take long for the food to come out at all, enjoying the street view while waiting helped pass the time. Definitely want to try some more of their menu next visit. 👍🏾

I know this place already has like a million 5-star reviews but i’d still like to add onto that. The food is pretty expensive but absolutely worth it! Their mac and cheese danced on my tongue, and the chicken was so juicy. The service here was such a breath of fresh air since I’m used to bad customer service/being judged due to certain demographic characteristics. And to also see all the other customers receiving the same great treatment just attests to the fact that they truly care. The server went around to every table continuously checking in. The staff was very friendly. If you want a warm, welcoming environment with delicious food, don’t hesitate to visit here :)

Living in the south 28 years of my life, I had some pretty high standards coming in here. I can say this place has far exceeded them. The food will truly take you into another dimension. Each dish is made so tastefully, with such bold, yet comforting taste. It is truly unparalleled soul food. I’ve found a piece of home to always come to eat at. The ambience is as if you are eating as a big family. Truly warm and representative of the southern culture. Keep up the absolutely spectacular work. You guys are the BEST!

Gotta say Luella's indeed lived up to the hype. For Sunday brunch, we got the shrimp and grits, biscuits, mac and cheese, fried chicken, and collard greens. Recently we had lots of Southern fare in Atlanta and this was better. The fried chicken was so juicy and there was hefty amount of shrimp with the grits. Thanks!

10/10 it was great! My 13 year old son said that it was good enough to have as a last meal, and he’s a tough critic with a sophisticated palate so that says a lot. He had the French Toast, which had a Whiskey caramel sauce, and Chicken and Waffle. Husband had the Chicken and Waffle as well, then we had fried green tomato and Mac and cheese for the table. Hands down the best fried green tomatoes that I’ve had. The French toast was amazing, like AMAZING, it’s probably a fall/winter special but I’d eat it year round. It reminded me of the caramel apple spice drink at Starbucks. The chicken with the waffles was so good. Crispy without being oily, seasoned well but not overly salty. The staff was amazing despite the fact that there’s limited interaction with them since everything is ordered from your phone. They are welcoming, friendly, patient, articulate and professional. I recommend this establishment for quality food, exceptional flavor, and an overall great experience.
