My cousin took me here for the first time for my birthday brunch and I like it. Not my fav chicken and waffles or biscuit and gravy I've had but my cousins enjoys their grits a lot. I love the vibe and decor a lot. Get the window seats if you can since it's a lil dim in there.
The soon to close brunch staple was a neighborhood anchor for years, offering Southern cuisine. Hoping they open in a new location soon. Shrimp and Grits was a masterpiece. The corn muffins are not to be missed. Great friendly service.
We used to come here a lot for breakfast and we haven't been here in quite some time. So when we decided to stop here for breakfast one day during the week, we were shocked to find that it was practically empty. I remember that this place was packed with lines outside the door every day of the week.
One of our choices was the crab cakes and eggs and they are very good however they do not have the Hollandaise sauce except on weekends. Big fail.
The other meal was the salmon omelette which is very good, but nothing outstanding.
Both meals came with black beans and your choice of cornbread, biscuit, or English muffin.
Used to eat the jambalaya omelette which I remember was very, very good, so next time I will try that again.
The inside is decorated really cute, Southern eclectic. Take your time and look around!
Prices are still reasonable, worth another trip.
Service was very slow considering they were empty and when we were brought coffee it was cold and we had to ask for it to be warmed up. Not good service at all.
Great food with a relaxed dinner for.a good price. I had the blackened tilapia and my friend had chicken and waffles but you need to be sure you get sauces you like for that.
We must have come when the place just opened because it was dead. Our waitress was friendly, and I love the choice of free cornbread rolls or chips and salsa. The atmosphere is very warm, and the music was nice, while at a comfortable level.
We ordered the chicken and waffles, with a side of cheese grits and brisket with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. So much chicken and cute little waffles with a flavored honey. And three perfectly large strips of brisket. The sides were ample, and the waitress was attentive to our drink levels.
I haven't lived in Chicago long, but I think I found my new favorite restaurant.
So good! And thanks to daylights saving time, we scored the perfect booth seat next to window on a sunny sunday morning. Yay! Our waitress was suoer nice and very patient with my indecision. So many good food choices! I settled on the crabcake Benedict and cheesy grits, with a short stack of pancakes on the side that we shared. So good!! Highly recommend! Great food at a good prices. I look forward to going back. :-)
We usually stop when visiting. Interesting menu. This time my poached eggs weren't the best, but that was an exception.
We love this place. As a Southerner, their grits aren't bad. The black bean cakes with the red pepper sauce are incredible. I could eat that sauce with a spoon. They people are always nice and the food has always been great. We usually have to time our visits to when all the toddlers aren't there for breakfast most of the time, but hey, even toddlers deserve awesome food.
TWO-THUMBS UP!
From the host to the little wait on a Fathers-day Sunday brunch. The experience was great. The food. Even better!!
We looked over the menu before being seated, and got right to it with our waitress. Who was very kind and attentive.
Food was served at a timely fashion.
Surprisingly WE ATE IT ALL!
which is very rare, as we normally dine in and carry out lololol
CHECK EM' OUT!
Generally great food and service. I have been here for breakfast many times. Fresh eggs, delicious 3 egg omelets, ham off the bone. Southern (New Orleans) flair. I recommend the cheese grits and black beans . Gluten free muffin is good too. Not that I generally like anything g-free.
First time here - saw the menu via Google Maps and decided to give it a try for breakfast. Great decision! Ordered the Red Eggs and the avocado beach omelet and my sister and I shared. The omelet tasted like quiche and was so good. But the red eggs - holy guacamole they were delicious! I’d get my own next time. 😊
Wasn't very busy at all on a Friday night. Service was lighting fast. My waiter was incredibly friendly. It was my first time trying some southern staples. So even though I have nothing to compare it to everything tasted really good! Wasn't a fan of the life country cover band.
Great Day for A brunch date. The service was impressive. Our server's name was Ivory. She was a delight and knew when to come by us. The food was fresh and hot, flavorful without a lot of additives.
The Corn Cakes are very good with just the right amount of crisp on the edges.
If you would like pure syurp, it is available for a nominal charge.
The reg. Syrup is of course sided with your order.
The place is decorated very nicely and is spacious and well thought out.
Will definitely go back.
There's a lot of places in Chicago that claim to have "Southern food," and even more places that claim to have "southern-style fried chicken," and I can say for a fact that this restaurant has probably the most diverse and contemporary selection of southern food without being over-priced that I've seen in this city. The restaurant floor is big and has fairly high ceilings and great, chicken-themed art all over the place. I've never had to wait for a table, even during brunch hours. Highly recommend the fried green tomatoes and the shrimp and grits, but all of their breads and sides and sandwiches I've tried have also been great.
Went with out of town family to the Sunday Brunch. The service and food were excellent. I especially like the spaciousness and feel. It didn't feel crowded even though they had a full house. I also liked that I had no trouble hearing others talk. Many other restaurants are so noisy that conversation is impossible. I look forward to the next time.
Absolutely fantastic... The chef even came out to talk to us about their Chipotle syrup for the chicken & waffles. Soooo good!!! Our waiter was the best, great recommendations and helped walk us around the menu for the first timers.
