We were going to pick up our online order but the owner Gianni asked us to dine in the patio with our dog whom we were walking! What a great move! Showed his high regards for customer service & in doing that we ended up spending more than the pick up order! Loved the service.. For was GREAT! cocktails are nice. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Trattoria Gianni. Definitely going back
Neighbourhood restaurant vibe on Halsted ! Home made Pasta and great desserts. Definitely a visit .
Went there multiple times . The quality of the food is spot on as is the service! The owner is frequently around and is extremely responsive !
Very quaint and casual with really great traditional Italian food. Service was incredible. Always good to start the meal with delicious wine and fresh bread served with high quality olive oil. Each of us ordered a different pasta dish and everything was great. The lobster ravioli and traditional spaghetti were highlights!
Delicious food, but extremely pricy. I had the Capellini Pomodoro with meatballs which was a generous portion of pasta but the meatballs were quite small and cost $10 extra making my dish $33 total. Others in my group felt their portions were quite small (and not much cheaper), but also pretty good. I had a great cocktail, the ambiance was lovely and the service was good. A nice place for a special occasion you’re ready to shell out for, but not a place I will be able visit frequently. My partner who has celiac disease (must eat gluten free) had no cross contamination issues with the pasta and salad he got, but he said, for the price, the pasta wasn’t worth it.
Wow....so delicious. Best spinach ravioli I ever had. Everyone loved their choices. Friends had lamb meatballs, shrimp and scallop linguini, spinach and sausage shells. A little pricey but so worth it. They have valet parking. Friendly service.
For the most part I enjoyed my time here, but probably would not go back. We had a reservation for 5 and were seated at a table for 5. Unfortunately, one person couldn’t make it so we only had 4 people at this table for 5. While we were seated, the manager came around and asked where the 5th person was. We explained that one person couldn’t make it at the last minute. He seemed irritated and said under his breath that he was going to move us to another table (that sat 4). Mind you, we were already eating at this point. It felt incredibly rude (although I do realize we should have alerted them sooner so that we could be at a more appropriate table). It made for an incredibly awkward dinner.
The ravioli also didn’t have that much flavor to it; seemed under seasoned. Did enjoy all the options the menu had to offer though!
One of the original Italian restaurants in Chicago that shouldn't be overlooked! A truly culinary adventure through Italy. Every dish was better than the next and so different but delicious. My personal favorite was the squash ravioli, squid ink pasta and the calamari.
The service was simply phenomenal. Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, efficient, and even taught us some Italian! We ordered the arancini siciliani and bruschetta for starters. For main dishes, we had the risotto ai funghi and the tortellini baronessa. They also have a vast list of Italian beers and wines, as well as great cocktails. The food was delicious and this is now my go-to place for Italian food in Chicago.
Go here! Had a tasty barrel aged manhattan and our pasta and special dish was so tasty! The service was perfect:) we will return!
From the first welcome, to the service, to the food....all EXCELLENT! Very authentic Italian food. We went for our anniversary last night. Even got complimentary limoncello for an anniversary toast!
We want to go here every year!!! ❤️
This place is an absolute treasure! Everything I've ever ordered here is delicious, the patio is wonderful, and the staff is so attentive! I also like the bar for when it's too cold to sit outside!
Good Italian food. Nice wine choice by the glass. Broth with tortellini was excellent. However, the daily special, tagliatelle with ragu sauce felt too mushy, overcooked.
So I think I am biased to this meal because it was a pleasant surprise while waiting for my 2 HOUR oil change 2 blocks away.... this is my silver lining.
I arrived with only a few tables seated at 6p on a Thursday. It's very quiet but full of engaged convo. I'm not creepy... just not used to dining alone.
Anyway, the burrata with pesto was delish! The cappelletti soup did not look appealing and was served piping hot. I focused on my wine for a few, and then found it a little bland but acquired more chicken broth flavor with each bite. The arancinis were crisp on the outside with a creamy, cheesy center. I loved them. I will definitely come back!
