I ate lunch at this restuarant on Monday May 28, 2012. The quality and quantity of the food was outstanding. The toasted ravoli, the chicken tenders with holy cow chips was absolutely amazing.
The service however was the absolute worst I have ever had in an airport restuarant. I had to ask for a manager before I was able to get a refill on my drink, the waitress got upset when I asked someone else for silverware even though my food had already arrived. I assumed she wanted me to eat with my fingers.
This is a great place to eat if you can tolerate very bad service.
Friday night date night. It was a 40 min. wait, but we were expecting one. Had 4 rolls in order from our most favorite; sunny, yellow submarine, kamikaze, and a spicy California. This is BYOB, and the staff opened our wine and brought glasses for us. Overall good experience!
I don't know much about sushi's history in Chicago. And growing up in Toronto and London (Ontario, not England), followed by moves to Atlanta and New York, the question surfaces - can you really blame me? One of the most difficult things in life is to step outside a comfort zone, especially with something as deeply personal as a meal. Characters like Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern are some of my biggest inspirations; part of their appeal is how frequently they invest in uniqueness during all of their (incredible) dining experiences.
Best sushi in Chicago. I've tried places all over the city. But I keep coming back to Toro. Mitch, the owner is a genius. I just wish that it was open longer hours
AMAZING sushi. We had to wait over an hour before a table was available.. and it was well worth the wait! This was the best sushi I've ever had. Absolutely exceptional.
Amazing sushi. Fresh, innovative menu and a decent price point. This is one popular place so arrive early or be prepared to wait. The service was efficient and didn't make you feel rushed in spite of others waiting for tables. BYOB; big plus in my book.
Well worth the wait. Don't be scared off by the wait time, they will take down your number and call you when your table is ready. This lets you head to one of several bars right down the street to pass the time. The sushi is quite simply some of the best in Chicago. Super fresh and a great selection of the basics as well as specialty rolls. The Cherry Blossom roll was to die for.
A post about my favorite sushi restaurant (and maybe overall restaurant) in Chicago is long overdue. Toro is a tiny BYOB in Lincoln Park that may not look like much, but I don't think you can get better sushi for your money. I went about once a week when
Toro has a cool BYOB setting and a menu stocked with crazy variations on your standard maki dishes. I absolutely loved all of the rolls we had except for the Awesome roll. It's a challenge to eat at because of the huge crowds and limited seating, but if you go at an off hour you'll be fine. I'm giving them 4 out of 5 Pearls.
We came in on a Saturday and it was not busy yet so we didn’t have to wait to sit down. They have limited seating and it is very cute inside. The server and chef made sure my special request was respected which was very nice of them. I don’t love raw fish so I got the avocado roll and sweet potato roll, which were both everything I wanted. I will for sure be back.
This is my partner and I’s go-to date night spot! Never disappointed. Granted we know what we like, so we order 3-4 spicy tuna crunch rolls but they are always so consistent & delicious! We also typically have the same server (can’t remember his name unfortunately) but he deserves a shoutout! Such nice staff and a cute / cozy ambiance. BYOB is awesome as well! Highly recommend this sushi joint!
I had 3 rolls. All yum! I asked for no crunch or mayo and they came out perfectly! The fish was fresh and the ambiance was nice! I arrived at 5:15 and sat right down. I would definitely go back!
Enjoyable experience with take out- food was good, hot, and good size. Check it out!
Amazing! I have tried so many sushi places nearby and this by far was the best. We did pickup but could tell the atmosphere was great. Workers so nice and laughing along with customers. Going to dine in next time for sure.
The Salmon Crunch and 911 rolls were to die for!!
YUUUMMM. Love the sushi here. Lots of great selections for rolls. They are great with gluten free options- even have a gluten free version of soft shell crab. There’s no reservations so hope for the best and prepare for the wait. It’s worth it!
Overall: The inevitable wait is worth the quality. Great tasting sushi, much better than anything else I've had in the city. Definitely will come back when the craving hits again.
The good: Best sushi I have had in Chicago, and the best I've ever had in the states. Only sushi I've had that has been better has been in Japan. Reasonable prices too, for sushi anyway. Humble environment with great chefs. Oh, and its BYOB
The bad: The waits are LONG. Plan to put your name down and come back. They don't take reservations either. You will most likely have to wait.
Atmosphere: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Food: 9/10
Walking home and I hear the voice growing louder….I thought I was being followed but instead it was my stomach telling me to stop. I passed a burrito joint, a Hawaiian spot, a NYC pizza slice of Heaven before I decide to indulge in sushi. Indulging is exactly what I did! Best of Both Worlds, Krunchi and Edamame hit the spot like no other choice this night could of. Great service as I sat at the sushi bar. Ordered and everything came as expected. A taste of each and it blew my taste buds to foodie heaven. Definitely a must go to in Lincoln Park. I lived four years in Japan and the sushi here made my stomach stop speaking.
All around great. The owner AJ is a great guy and the sushi is always exceptional also priced very reasonably. Quality is as good as any sushi place in the city.
This place is always amazing. Best soft shell crab app. Sashimi was great. Innovative rolls you can't find anywhere else like them. BYOB!!!
