I stopped by last weekend and was greeted with such warm smiles by the staff. They encouraged me to sample the flavors, even though I went specifically for the coconut caramel chocolate fudge. The owner is absolutely delightful!!
The gelato is the best! Sometimes unusual ingredients that taste amazing. Servers are always super friendly and very gracious about serving samples.
Hands down the best Gelato in the city! I highly recommend you try it!

EVERY flavor is incredible. They can take ingredients like rosemary, sesame oil and balsamic vinegar and come up with a gelato that you never thought could taste that good. Who would have thought using sesame oil in a desert could taste so good!
Black Dog Gelato is my ultimate favorite in artisinal Chicago staples. I love their ever-changing menu of unique flavors.
We had Black Dog served at our wedding and got endless compliments from our guests about what a great treat it was after dinner.
My husband and I also took a gelato-making class with Jessie (the owner) and agreed it was our favorite Valentine's Day together.

I went here on a Friday afternoon at about 4:30 with my kids. I Googled ice cream near me, and this was the closest location with good ratings. This gelato did not disappoint!
This location is right on a corner. Parking was pretty simple on a residential street. Walking up, I noticed a small patio area. Maybe 4 or 5 tables. They were all full. Walking into the shop, it smelled amazing! It is a small space inside. There are no tables for sitting...the flavors are definitely not your normal chocolate and vanilla. We decided on strawberry watermelon, Italian cookie, and malted vanilla pretzel.
The strawberry watermelon put me in the mind of a sherbet. It's very refreshing. The vanilla pretzel had a good balance. I enjoyed the surprise crunch of chocolate and pretzels. The vanilla ice cream reminds me of a New York vanilla. The winner of the 3 was the Italian cookie. It was so creamy and tasted like Cookie Butter. Very light flavor, not overly sweet. There were little cookie butter cookies in the ice cream. I liked this so much I went back for a pint!
The only complaint I had was the pricing. For 3 scoops my total was $18. I could see if the size justified the price buuuuut, the sizes are tiny compared to the price. The cookie butter was so good that I decided to grab a pint for my mom. The pint was $10. The mini scoop was $5. 2 of those DO NOT equal the size of the pint. Compared to the mini scoop, the pint is definitely the better option. I'd recommend getting a full pint instead of a scoop when you go. Also, they have that tip option on their credit card machine. I hate that. Especially when the worker is watching as you sign.
I'll be back before summer is over!
After hearing so many good things about it, I finally tried the Black Dog Gelato! 🥰 I visited the store when oddly there were no people, but I can just see this place being filled with friends, lovers, and families enjoying colorful & creative flavors of gelato. The staff was so nice and offered me different flavors to try; her recommendations were espresso chip and cantaloupe elderflower sorbet 🍨! I had espresso chip with raspberry rose — I was one happy customer, to say the least. I tried mint cookie and cotton candy (based on coconut), which I surprisingly liked! Do try this place when you are in the neighborhood or when you are in the mood for good gelato! ❤️ P.S. There is a great outdoor patio with cute lights too.
Black Dog Gelato is a heavenly sanctuary. The gelatos are delicious, creative, and really rich. The total delight is enhanced by the polite service and charming ambiance. A great option for people looking for tasty and imaginatively made gelato varieties in the city. Strongly suggested for a decadent and sweet getaway.

Honest: flavors have been both good and not good. I suggest being prepared for some gelato flavors you personally don't want/like, but IMO, it helps make other likable flavors more fitting.
8 flavors! 8 wonder of the worlds. This place is one of the best cream delights in Chicago Downtown vicinity. The taste truly worths the pricing and makes you melt in the fusions of thick cream. The way ice creams are really meant to be!
I really liked the different interesting flavours that they have. I got the espresso chip and olive oil in a cone. I always get “normal flavours” so I was getting out of my comfort zone by getting the olive oil flavour. I thought it would taste weird but it was creamy and not “oily” like I thought it would be. It didn’t really taste like anything, perhaps vanilla? without the vanilla fragrance, but I liked it nevertheless. I tried a sample of the goat cheese flavoured one but it really isn’t my cup of tea. Four of my other friends got 2 scoops each and they all got & liked the Italian custard flavour, which has alcohol in it.
