Tanoshii is absolutely incredible. The food is fresh and beautifully prepared. The service could not be better. This is the perfect spot for a date night or a fun night out with friends!
As much as I wanted a repeat of the chef’s choice board in total, I did opt for another sushi roll. Now I am in love with their truffle honey roll with salmon over a peach balsamic sauce topped off with chili paste and a honey truffle glaze. This was the Mona Lisa of sushi rolls.
We went to Tanoshii on a whim when a rain storm caused us to cancel our plans for an evening in the park. I have to say, I was more than pleasantly surprised! The sushi is excellent, and so is the service. Definitely choose the Omakase option - which means you'll tell your server what you like, and what you don't, and the sushi chef will prepare a selection of sashimi and rolls to suit your tastes. Everything we had was excellent, and definitely unique. Tanoshii is now on my list of top sushi spots in Chicago!
This place is a gem of a sushi joint tucked at the very end of the Randolph Street corridor that borders the highway to the East.
The sushi here is fresh and amazing in flavor, texture and presentation. Sat at the sushi bar where the sushi chef prepared the nigiri and makimono to order.
The uni (sea urchin) was briny and umami. Both the sake (Faroe Isl salmon) and toro (fatty tuna) was rich, luscious and full of fatty flavor. The sushi chef treated me to their salmon belly with foie gras from their omakase menu, which was simply amazing.
Finished with the ebi ten (shrimp tempura) maki that still had a freshly warm tempura and was very tasty. I use very little wasabi and soy sauce so I can taste the full flavor of the seafood.
Staff and sushi chefs were friendly and accomodating for this fairly quick meal. Will need to explore their omakase menu as well.
Very tasty fresh sushi. Friendly service. We had the chefs menu for a party of three which was really good value for money and very tasty. Loved the mochis as well. Happy to return!
From drinks to eating sushi this place is amazing in quality on its own. The well deserved service here is satisfying. For my first time experience I was impressed throughout and left knowing that I would love to come back.
this is one of the best sushi spots in chicago. all the ingredients are super fresh and delicious. their specialty rolls are unique and bring bold, interesting, and really amazing flavors together taking a more modern approach to traditional sushi. we especially liked the fish and chips- sorta like spicy tuna crispy rice but on a massive tortilla chip instead of the rice. everything was reasonably priced and i will definitely will be returning here soon.
Best Sushi My family and I have ever had!! Beautifully designed family owned restaurant with high quality authentic sushi. The service was quick and friendly. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and would explain all the dishes as they were served. My cousin, Jada, is a regular so she ordered all of her favorite dishes for us to try: Fish and Chips, Hamachi Kama, Omakase nigiri and sashimi, Omakase special rolls, etc. 😍🥰😛 I posted pictures below if you want to ask the waiter what to order and be in sushi heaven!
Tanoshii has great fresh fish options if you’re into it. The fish and chips is amazing. Their non-traditional take on the rolls is something worth trying where the chef takes some creative liberty and uses ingredients that are rarely used in sushi rolls. We went for the full omakase with chef’s recommendations. While the flavors hit the right marks, it would’ve been nice to have a bit more variety in the rolls.
I sat at the bar and the experience was amazing. Very fresh sushi and very good beer, saki and whiskey selection. Was served by Michelle and she gave great recommendations both on the food and drinks. Couldn't be happier.
I have been dining at Tanoshii for many years. They continue to surprise and impress me. Delicious food and great service! Get the Chef special!!!
This is by far the best sushi in Chicago hands down. My boyfriend and I stumbled across this place by chance and fell in love with it. Then we couldn’t figure out where we had gone for a while and found it again and their menu had changed slightly but it was still the delicious sushi place we had been to before. The fish there is just so fresh tasting. The combinations of flavors they put in their rolls are amazing. I absolutely love this place and we go back there at least once every time my boyfriend is in town. HIGHLY recommend.
Amazing experience and food. Highly recommend the Omakase experience. I have allergies and we were able to eat more food than we could imagine with no issues at all. The cocktails were equally amazing. Can’t recommend this place enough!
