One of the best COVID dining experiences to date! The food here is outstanding - super fresh farm to table, breakfast BLT and mushroom omelets were just wonderful and huge! The patio is properly distanced and our lovely server John was very careful to give us space which we greatly appreciated. I can’t say enough about their precautions to make us feel safe and enjoy our meal!
This family owned shop and cafe has an amazing back-story about it's mushroom farm in Wisconsin. It's worth reading on the website to give you a greater appreciation for the business, the quality of food and the farms that are the source for the produce and grocery products.
The shop is smaller than I expected. There are really interesting products from local farms or artisans, lots of mushroom-based goods, lots of tomato-based sauces and salsa's that are heavy on the veggies and delicious. There is an alcohol room featuring a couple of Farmhouse wines from a family business in California with a great story about improving the sustainability of the grapes and land.
Outdoor and indoor seating is available for the cafe. An incredible menu, which includes a list of farms where the ingredients come from.
Unlike the uppity ritzy farm-to-table restaurants typically found in Chicago that seem all about being trendy and the scene, this place is quaint and simple with excellent quality everything!
Awesome farm stand type restaurant and store! Has very good fresh veggies, sauces, and pastries! We didn't eat the restaurant but we did get a large assortment of produce! Great place with friendly staff! We will be back.
Had a great brunch! We ordered Mushroom Scones, Egg BLT, and Avocado Benedict. Non of the items that we ordered disappointed us. The food quantity was a little on the higher side (I guess it is because we ordered a sharable so we ended up taking some food home for dinner). Over all, a great experience!
I initially was introduced to River Valley at my local farmers market. They cracked my brain open to how incredible shiitake mushrooms are and was so excited when I realized they had a store in Ravenswood. I purchased the mushroom club package for my partner for his birthday and we’ve been enjoying the process of growing. It’s nice to go in once a month to pick up our kit and snag some of their additional offerings.
First time here and first time having an egg benedict and it was pretty good. Only complaint I had about this place was the wait time. Maybe they had a cook call off or something, not sure but took a bit long to get the food out. Other than that pretty good spot
Deeeeelicious brunch outside complete with Bloody Mary and homemade pickles on top! Excellent service provided by Ryan and outside farm to table breakfast - fried green tomato Benedict and asparagus/morel omelet were outstanding!
Fresh mushrooms, small but delicious food selection, wine and various liquor options. You can also order latte or coffee.
Found this great store at a farmers market in Lincoln Park this weekend . Great customer service. They care. What a wide variety of mushrooms and the quality was over the top. Many thanks we will be back .
Always fresh ingredients. Their inventory changes slightly with the seasons, and I love that I can always find something to elevate / spice up my meals here.
Small, but good natural wine selection that’s reasonably priced. They have a pickled things / jarred good section made from local sellers which I love.
Reasonably priced granola too! Wonderful bread from local bakery / day old section has better bread than any grocery store around. Good mushroom frozen pizza. Mushroom everything is great here!
the food was delicious, its a pity i smoked a big fat joint later only to be possessed by a demon to puke it all out hours later
Great place that uses fresh produce from local farms. So few restaurants offers that. Their mushrooms are the best. There is also a grocery that sells farmers, organic produce and local food products, great for if you can't get to a farmers market. There is outdoor patio dining as well. Prices are quite reasonable given the quality. Definitely recommend checking this place out.
Edit to update: they no longer have the restaurant, sadly. I still come here for the produce and baked goods.
Ordering from here is absolutely a treat every time. You can taste the freshness—like, REALLY taste it. I mean it, every time I’ve ordered something, I’m always pleasantly surprised at how bursting with both flavor and goodness it is. Eating here both tastes good and feels good. Veggies that I usually think of as mundane, or even not that great, are suddenly delicious in their dishes! Not only that, the staff is so kind, professional, and warm, I love going in to seeing what’s on the menu (and they change it up every so often, so it’s even more incentive to come in and see what they got!).
I call it the Mushroom Palace since it had a ton of fresh mushroom and delicious mushroom based sauces, since it's owned by a mushroom farm. There are a ton of other delicious groceries here as well. When the pandemic ends the restaurant is very good. I love to support this business and recommend everyone to stop in and take a look around. I'm sure you'll find something you'd like to try.
I debated about writing a review for River Valley Farmer's Table because I would love to keep this place to myself and be able to just march in and get a table. I was here for dinner on a week night, so I didn't even consider that there might be a wait for Sunday brunch (ahem...I am from Michigan and we are watching sports on Sunday, not out for brunch!) However, they make the wait relaxing and fun. They have unique products to peruse, and a wine room off to the side with snacks and drinks to enjoy while you wait! They know what they are doing - everything I tried, I wanted to buy! Their food is beyond fresh and expertly prepared. The salads are delicious - they manage to put ingredients together that nobody would think of, and the finished product makes you want to lick your plate - oh dear, I forgot again that I was in Chicago::)) Jimmy R. was our server - he was efficient, funny and managed to perfectly navigate all five of our orders, with this and that on the side, and hold the whatever. If you love mushrooms, you will want to live across the street and dine here for every meal, although they have plenty of choices if mushrooms are not your cup of tea. Oh, did I mention tea? Fresh brewed iced tea, and wonderful! This place is run like a top too!
Love this store! Haven't tried the restaurant side yet but looking forward to. Store has variety of canned goods and always a selection of local fruits & veggies. If got like mushrooms, this place is heaven. Also, really surprisingly great selection of craft beers in can and on tap.
When the kitchen is open, the food is very good. Over the pandemic they have put a larger focus on locally sourced groceries. They have a farm in Wisconsin where they grow mushrooms. Try the mushrooms! They’re much better than what you can buy at a typical grocery store.
Everything about this place is great. They're a mushroom farm in Wisconsin that's been going to Farmer's Markets in Chicago with their goods and opened an outpost/restaurant here. They always have samples of their products - pickled mushrooms, housemade granola, cheeses and produce. Buy some of the pickled mushrooms to take home. Brunch here is spectacular. They have a pretty small menu but always have some specials and it's always been perfectly done. It's also a great choice for lunch or dinner - they have a great burger here. It's a nice space - much better layout since they redid it - now the store and the restaurant area are truly separated.
