I never rate things, but this place is unusually good. I ordered the quiche with salad and it was the best quiche I've ever had. Sometimes you have things that aren't just good, but good in a way where you didn't realize that what you had could be like that. The menu said all that was in the quiche was thyme. And when you looked at the cross section of the quiche they weren't lying - it was flat, creamy off white. The texture was smooth and extremely satisfying. The crust made me want to try their bread. The salad was greens with a very light dressing and salt, it tasted perfect. Check this place out.

Absolutely a favorite place to eat! and calm down a bit from the world. The food is laconically described and brilliantly executed. The vibe and service are low-key elegant. A perfect concept.

So perfect and relaxing for breakfast or brunch. No frills in its approach or as you approach but it's gets intricate, delicate and comforting in its pastries or ever evolving quiche. There is sways a savory item which could include chilled sorrel soup or a braised chicken. All items are farmed local/regionally and it shows. Such care coming out of that open kitchen. Top it off with locally roasted, always spectacular Metric Coffee and drizzle in some heavy cream..pow!

Wow!!! This will be my new spot for first time experiences in culinary modern dining. Flavorful, colorful foods with fresh unique ingredients. Filling but not heavy. The seed and seaweed bread is amazing!

As one of the many local producers that Ethan, Tony, and the team work with we are proud to call Cellar Door one of our connections at Jake's Country Meats - stop in and say hello for us!

I'm completely obsessed with this place. The food is delicious. It's small and can get crowded but I've always gotten a seat eventually.

Overall the experience was positive. We ordered five dishes and two drinks. The flavor of the mackerel was fantastic, strongly recommend pair with the bread they make. However the lettuce dish, when I cut the stem and ate that, it was not well washed and was full of dirt ( it was not the texture of the pistachio and breadcrumbs). When we asked the server for recommendations, he recommended the peppers and mackerel. But 30 mind later, when another couple sat a seat from us the server recommended completely different dishes (the radish and pork loin) as his favorites. Im not sure why there’s a such a drastic difference? Gelato is a must have

Intriguing and enjoyable evening. Plenty of "funky" wine and food. Loved the ambiance and seasonal menu. Server tried to describe the menu but kept it pretty high level since it changes so often. Enjoyed trying many different flavors. Olives, sausage and wine were great. Scallops, mussels were different and probably wouldn't order again. All in all a great neighborhood place to check out.

I just ate the best burger I have ever eaten. I’ve never had a burger this good, and I eat a lot of burgers. I come here for special occasions and it is always fantastic. Perfect food, service, and atmosphere :) if you are in Chicago you have to visit cellar door.

Watching Chef Ethan in action made us want everything on the menu that we didn’t order and the things we did order were as delicious as you can imagine! The staff were equally as awesome. We’ll be back to try all of the other dishes.

Super cool/trendy spot with an amazing bottle selection (from their shop next door) and great wines by the glass. Would be a great date spot. Their snacks are really tasty and there are vegetarian/vegan options! (Also check out the shop next door)

Quaint, fresh and delicious. New and delectable recipes and food combinations. Most everything is freshly made on the premises, including the crusty rustic rye bread. My steak tartare was filled with intriguing flavors and very fresh meat. The charred broccoli was graced with a special creamy garlic sauce that was deliciously out of this world.

We came in the morning after hearing about their wonderful pastry program. Needless to say we were not disappointed. The buckwheat kouign amann in particular deserves special attention as practically every technical aspect (caramelized bottom, dough lamination) was perfect. Don't leave without one!

Delicious, vegetable-forward meal in a cozy (but not cramped) environment. Everyone in our party loved the bread plate, and the radicchio ice cream was surprising and tasty.

Absolutely wonderful baked goods and small tasting menu purveyor, using abundant local produce. The breads (and spreads) are a particular highlight, with a perfect crust and density inside!

I've been avoiding writing a review for Cellar Door, because really no words could do it justice. The only draw back is, after eating here, you'll be left thinking "Why didn't I just go to Cellar Door instead?" It's a life changing experience that will make you forever recognize the mediocrity of Nookies, Ann Sather's and their ilk which may have satisfied you before. Every time I’m left wondering “how is such a perfect combination of flavors even possible?”

6/5 stars. Some of the most amazingly, skillfully, and fantastically prepared food I've had anywhere. The place is small with a very intimate vibe, with a small kitchen behind the bar where all the action happens. The white fish was cooked perfectly with a delicious sake sauce hinted with strawberry, asparagus was spot on, and beef heart carpaccio with young strawberries was uniquely delicious. Strawberry gelato with dill and mint was delicious. It's a very chill spot almost more akin to going to a chef friend's house than an actual restaurant, and I really like that.

My wife and I went to Cellar Door last night for dinner. We walked in at about 8pm on a cold Wednesday evening and sat down with no wait. Our dinner was just astoundingly good. The food was simply beautiful, and it all tasted just great. There were flavor combinations that you'd never think of at home, but which worked beautifully together. And yet the dishes were simple, they didn't have a ton of ingredients. Everything had a just few different ingredients put together perfectly. The service was perfect--the wine was perfect--the room and music were quiet and relaxing--and we had the best time out we've had in many months. I have loved all the previous versions of Cellar Door, but I think this new version of Cellar Door is the best it's ever been. Thanks so much for such a great night.
