This is one of the authentic Cantonese restaurant in Chinatown. Unlike Chi Cafe or Joy Yee which now serves more “Americans” than Cantonese. Golden Bull restaurant serves classic such as salted fish fried rice, beef tendons, steam sea bass, pea pod leaves with “wok” flavor. Beyond the traditional cooking they are pricing their meals for the locals without the extra markup for tourists, just checkout who is eating here.

Great Chinese food at an affordable price! The place was packed, but the staff was able to communicate their timelines well, and they actually stuck to them. It's best to make a reservation, though. The servings are more than sufficient, so we ended up overordering for our group of 7. By the end of the meal all of us were super full and satisfied AND still had enough to-go for everyone. I recommend pairing the salted fish and chicken rice paired with the tenderloin steak cooked in black pepper!

Great Chinese restaurant. They play some really nice Chinese songs on the speakers. The food quantity is great as expected. Even getting medium size seems like a large. Food very yummy and comes out very quickly too. Wasn't too busy at a dinner time on a Wednesday. Enjoy!

This is my favorite restaurant in Chicago because it excels in the two core components of the ideal restaurant: great food and great service. Service — I don’t mean great service as in just asking “how are you as a greeting,” checking in halfway in the meal, and being pleasant. I mean seating you efficiently, saying “you must be hungry, just take a look at the menu and we’ll get it ready right away.” I also ordered ahead once on the way back from a road trip and when we got there to pickup, they noticed we were tired and hungry so they insisted that we sit down and served us like a sit down meal. Another time I went, there was a miscommunication in the waiting time so we left to find another restaurant, but the sever and owner came out to the streets to grab us because a table was actually ready. Every time I go to this restaurant, it feels like they genuinely care about their costumers and it feels like going to a big family dinner where your aunts making sure you have a good time. Food — This is the place to go for authentic Cantonese style Chinese food. The hand-pulled chicken is so flavorful and soft. You can’t go wrong with the leafy vegetables cooked in any style you like. They do have more American-Chinese style dishes if that’s what you’re craving. I’ve been to this restaurant multiple times and it has never disappointed. It’s feels home-style, cozy, lively if you want to go for Chinese comfort food or a celebratory meal any time of day. You have to experience it yourself!

We came here for lunch, and the food was great! We got seated immediately after walking in, and the service was quick and attentive. We ordered the Chinese sausage fried rice in XO sauce, beef short ribs with black pepper sauce, chicken chow fun, and Szechwan chicken. We shared everything family style, and every dish was delicious! The portion sizes were large, and the prices were reasonable. Our only complaint was that the lazy Susan wasn’t working, so we had to physically move the plates around ourselves to share. Additionally, some of the dishes listed as spicy on the menu definitely could’ve been made spicier. Overall, the food and service were both good, and we will definitely be back to try other items on the menu!

I really like this restaurant in chinatown. Been here a couple of times and the food is great! We got the dinner for 3 option which included beef with veggies, sweet and sour pork and the stir fried lobster. Everything tasted great, it was a little bit of work to eat the lobster but not too bad. Service was nice and quick, did not have to wait either (was a weekday late evening). Certainly would recommend, especially if you like cantonese food!

Ordered delivery. The lady over the phone is super friendly and can understand English perfectly well. Instructions were closely followed. Highly recommend their rice casserole (they take 30 min to cook so do plan in advance). Fried quails are tasty too!!

Recommend: Shrimp with walnuts. It was cooked perfectly with a bit of a crunch. It wasn't too creamy which made it better. Soft shell crab is overrated. It was not crunchy and the batter was too thick where you couldn't taste the crab.

November 2023 The lobster 🦞 special $95 was an enticing draw for mi sis albeit the other two accompanying dishes were lack luster - stuffed tofu stew and taishanese cauliflower with cured meat. Of course adding salted yolk 金沙 for $16 put the lobs at a whole another level. SOOOOOO yum! 2023 : Eating our fav Cantonese food. Complete with 糖水❤ -Sole fish two ways - the crisp only happens dine in -Pot rices - soy seasoned rice topped with variety of meats slow cooked for about 30 mins -Bitter melon scrambled eggs -Hollow stem veggies in preserved tofu Ends with tarp and tapioca Always awesome 👏

Best Cantonese food in Chinatown. Kids like walnut shrimp, salad shredded chicken. The service was also spectacular. The fish tasted extremely fresh, and the shrimp was perfectly fried.

Finally made it back for in person dining at Golden Bull with a feast of farmer’s chicken claypot rice, steamed garlic surf clams, tofu and string beans. All delicious, really authentic and service was top notch. Loved that they remembered what we used to order even though the last time we visited was 2 years ago! 💗

Golden Bull is one of my favorite restaurants for Chinese food. I ordered take-out and the food was cooked by the promised time and was an appropriate temperature. The dishes that I ordered were: Walnut Shrimp, Eggplant in Special Garlic Sauce, Tenderloin Steak cooked with Black Pepper Sauce, Mandarin Pork Chop, Stir Fried Lotus Root and Mixed Vegetables, Farmer’s Chicken, and an order of Egg Rolls. Everything that I ordered, I would recommend. The food was hot, except for the Farmer’s Chicken which was served cold. Rice is included with the dishes and is a perfect vehicle for absorbing the saucy dishes. A good thing about this restaurant is that they offer both a small and large option, which gives you flexibility to order specific portions. If you’re ever looking for a good place to eat in Chinatown, consider eating here at Golden Bull.

Overall great experience! People are super nice here and the food is very good and the prices are reasonable. I found few of our dishes to be little bit on the salty side.

Not only is the food served HOT, but the service and atmosphere match. As soon as we walked in the place was semi packed but we were able to get in fast. The server was welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu on the spot. Which helps a ton if this is your first time dining, I am not. The portions are fantastic and the flavors….WOW! The prices are reasonable for the sizes they dish out. Let’s just say Sharing is Caring and it can be fun, which here you definitely can. Get ready to eat and feel full but in the right way since everything served is FRESH!!!!!!! Let’s just say they make it Nice.

It’s a complete mystery to me how this gem which is a favorite to many Chinese folks have so few ratings! I cannot recommend this place enough. It’s a homey spot, with incredibly kind servers and impeccable food. The best part about their menu is for most dishes they offer “small” and “big” portions, so you can try plenty of new dishes by ordering the smaller size option. Been going to this place regularly since moving to Chicago, and it’s never disappointed anyone that I brought along, even my very picky parents… Below are some of my favorites: braised beef, salt & pepper soft shell crab, and Cantonese style fried chicken. A must try for authentic and delicious Cantonese dishes. I am so glad this place survived quarantine!!
