I love restaurants that take something I take for granted and elevate it a notch or two... or three. The Maillard burger everything I want and more. With multiple patties and quite a few ingredients, it didn't slide apart on the first bite which was great. The crispy onions are always a favorite for me and the bacon onion jam was finger licking good. The duck fat fries were potato-y and crisp all at the same time. Make sure you get the house salad too because it was wonderful. Easy parking on the street and the entire place was approachable.

New burger "king" in town. All burgers and fries are not created equally. Maillard is THE BEST! Gotta try it to believe it. Already have my fave booth picked out.

If you're looking for a good burger and a drink, this place is perfect. The burgers were delicious and creative. The fries were good but a little overcooked. The drinks menu was small but had good choices. Food is good and prices are decent.

My boyfriend and I tried this place because the City Slicker "Hamburger hop winner" was mediocre. The El Jefe was nothing to brag about either For a place that's not so big and wasn't so busy, the food came out warm and the order came out incorrect. If you have a love for fries, you definitely won't be impressed. They felt stale and chewy, like they've been sitting out.

Fairly good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The chocolate milkshake stood out more than the burger. The burger is good, but I definitely had better elsewhere. It could be a little less dry and more pink. The fried onions in it was really good though. Fries were good too. It was an averagely good meal. I don't know if I would go back if I had a big craving for an amazing burger though.

Awesome burger diner offering up a delectable City Slicker burger that has both truffle and foie gras. Yummy truffle fries come in the side. Recommend if you want a classic burger all the way to this City Slicker.

I have lived around the corner from Maillard Tavern for a year, and just now got around to trying it. I wish I had gone sooner! These burgers are top notch excellence. I visited for lunch on a Saturday and had no trouble getting a table - the place was actually pretty empty. The restaurant is not huge but is a fun space with bar seating, booths, and regular tables. There are 6-8 beers on tap and probably 20+ in bottles. Service is very good… they have regular servers as well as a water guy which is clutch. My wife and I ordered the El Jefe and the Maillard. The Maillard was essentially an elevated take on the classic greasy dive bar onion burger. They really load it up with the crispy onions which makes the texture awesome and the burger look like an advertisement when it comes to your table. The beef was very tender all the way through - there were no remotely dry or crunchy areas. El Jefe is a delicious mess. Again the beef was moist throughout, and then you get the fried egg and chipotle mayo on top. I’m fairly certain they make the chipotles in house because the flavor was stronger, spicier, and smokier than anything you would get in a can. It’s just awesome. We asked for a side of it for our fries which I would HIGHLY recommend. After finally trying this place I’m confident all of the burgers will be great.I fully intend to return to try their award winning foie gras and truffle pesto burger.

Overall: Maillard is a perfect corner spot for a few drinks and some elevated pub food. The good: There are some heavy-hitting restaurants in the nearby area, but Maillard is a great spot for the middle-of-the-road consumer who doesn’t want to spend too much or too little. The atmosphere and vibes fit that bill too, but are still inviting and comfortable. The menu has some typical pub fare, but my girlfriend and I went with the fried chicken sandwich and the Maillard’s version of a sloppy joe, respectively. Both were great in their own way, and the fries to go along with them were crispy and hot. The portion sizes are perfect as well, and neither of us left too stuffed. The not-so-good: For what it is, it’s a little too overpriced. And, depending on what you’re looking for, the menu can seem pretty limiting. Food/drink: 8/10 Atmosphere: 8/10 Service: 8/10

This is a very tasty burger. Slightly dry patty but all the ingredients work well. The duck fat fries was crunchy and perfectly fried.

Come for the burgers. There are a few other items on the menu, but the burgers are the highlight. The burgers are not too extravagant, but still elevated. well executed balanced flavors. Quality ingredients but still has a greasy, messy feel that a good burger should have. Fries are crispy and paired well with a fresh lemonade shaken behind the bar.

Awesome place for burgers and shakes! The food is amazing: try the Maillard or the Grand and I bet you will love it! The ambiance is pretty cool - good music, huge bar, talkative customers.

Great use of a tiny space. Burger was incredibly savory; I got the Ray Ray chorizo and beef burger. Duck fat fries were exactly how I like them; so you taste potato, rather than a puff of exploded starch. Great small draft selection, understood by the staff.

Delicious! The service was fantastic, and the bun on the burger was toasted to PERFECTION. Crispy and buttery- and the milkshake was the best I’ve found in Chicago. I’ll definitely be back to go through the rest of the menu!

The burger here is amazing, just a great experience. Fries were only average but for the quality of that burger, I'm OK with it!

The bartender was super friendly. Happy hour is from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. I had the “One Hot Minute” margarita, it was out of this world! A little jalapeño spice with a splash of ginger beer soda... delicious! I totally recommend this place. And it’s super close to the blue line Grand exit. Perfect for CTA commuters.

First time. Dont sit in the first booth if you dont want sun in your eyes. A little expensive but worth it! The pozole was yum yum. Diffrent with bacon and pork but so good.

The Maillard Tavern is a great place to bring friends and dates for dinner or drinks. A craft drink menu offers plenty of creative cocktails to choose from, as well as a complete selection of beer and wine. I happened to done on the impossible 2.0 burger offered here, which is easily made vegan but is served by the house as vegetarian. The fries are simply delicious, as is the burger. A fantastic option for dining with a mixed dietary crowd. The Maillard Tavern is not to be missed.

First impressions go far, but a great second impression can make all the difference! I was ready to write this place off with a 3-star rating but I reheated my leftovers and was blown away by the taste!! Don't get me wrong, service was impersonal and detached, my bacon on the side turned out to be no bacon at all, chili cheese fries had very little cheese and the chili was all beans, first impression was bad. But after reheating that burger, wow, what a difference a day makes!!! Their namesake sandwich, on the second impression, made up for the lackluster first impression. It's not perfect, but it's miles better than just okay.

This little pie shaped corner spot has a clean and simple design and is putting out some excellent food and drink. Fun fact, "maillard" is the name of the chemical reaction that occurs between amino acids and sugars that gives browned food it yummy goodness (named after the French chemist Louis-Camille Maillard). I had the City Slicker, with seared foie gras, Swiss cheese, a black truffle pesto, caramelized onions, foie gras mayo, and crispy prosciutto. Yes, its pricey at $24 but worth it if you're in the mood to treat yourself. I paired with the bourbon and vanilla spiked shake and I was in heaven. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed.
